  1. ... but maybe we can differentiate by calling ourselves the University of North Dakota Northern North Stars!
  2. Agree with you that people could not care less about the school as an institution of higher learning, but to be honest with you, the direction the school is taking as it relates to learning gives me less passion for the school on that side of things. It has become more a bastion of political correctness lately that doesn't accept ideas that don't fit the prevailing line of thought -- which is that of professors that wish to advance their agenda rather than teach and encourage freedom of ideas. Having a nickname pushed on us like Sundogs that was pushed by that crowd, and something generic, pushed by an all-knowing consultant won't alleviate those feelings of moving the University further down that path.
  3. Well if they don't want to have the same name as a team in town, then North Stars is out as well, because isn't the name of the summer league football team the Tri City North Stars?
  4. When asked about looking up the urban dictionary of Sundog, one of the committee members said they already knew about that. Funny how the consultant took the time to make people aware of the connotations of "Roughrider", but failed to make the same case about "Sundogs" in public, until people called him out on it. Hmmm!
  5. I find it more curious that Roughriders topped their ranking last time but isn't even top three now. Sounds like they might as well have the consultant vote on his Hawks and be done with it! I also find it absurd that an outgoing President that has shown more affinity for political correctness than for the University itself, will have the final say in the matter. You can bet that since he was honored by the Native American community recently, he will consult them on those final names. Let's face it, it was just another job for Kelley, while for most of us the University of North Dakota has been a lifelong passion. It will be another slap in the face if he bypasses the vote with an end around on his way out.
  6. Yes, how about someone at this meeting taking the time to run down each of the names as it pertains to their own criteria. Rank them numerically as they meet uniqueness, source of pride, pertaining to the state, etc. As someone else said, how about some leadership.
  7. Yeah, maybe we better not recruit anyone named Johnson either because a twelve year old mentality might run rampant in immature college students!
  8. So, obviously if Fighting Hawks is tops on their list, then their criteria is just the biggest joke. Don't request nickname proposals from the public with the criteria you would like to meet, when you meet practically none of that same criteria with your latest rankings!
  9. But isn't the name of their group, "the Little People of America" disparaging? Why are they calling that to attention?
  10. Yeah, but the question is, will you be able to see anybody through the smoke? Seriously, is anything noticeable up there still?
  11. That should all come out in the wash when they let the stakeholders vote, but it better be an option, or officials at UND aren't doing their job.
  12. Yeah, if given a two way deal, I would sign a shorter contract, especially if the organization I signed with had good depth at that position. Sometimes you can play well and still get sent down.
  13. If your standard is 10-15 goals as a freshman, then not many will attain that because guys like Michael Parks and Luke Johnson only had 12 and 11 respectively last year. But I think you can make a difference without scoring that many goals as Poganski showed. By the end of the year, he was very good, and if the freshmen you mentioned live up to that, then I think they will have had a pretty valuable impact on the team. Besides, you never know who is actually going to shine, Wes Dorey being the guy talked about as an impact player coming in years ago, while little talked about Jeff Panzer was the player that really shined.
  14. I can say the same about almost every chain from service to food, and even from time to time. It even goes for individually owed places. Some times I go to Wild Hog and it's great, other times, not so much. You name a restaurant, and you will get mixed reviews.
  15. Not where to eat, but heard rumors of Costco coming to town. Anybody with reliable sources on that?
  16. Can't imagine Dickies can hang on much longer, as there is never anyone there, even during dinner hours.
  17. Yes, but he didn't decommit. Just saying don't make the same mistake twice. He may indeed wait, which would be wise.
  18. He is still quite young, isn't he? Why not wait until your Junior year in high school and not rush things again. As we have seen with Hakstol leaving, things can change pretty quickly.
  19. http://sports.yahoo.com/cfl/blog/cfl_experts/post/Stampeders-Riders-come-out-with-donuts-8220-?urn=cfl-wp273 Have a few Dressler potato chips to boot.
  20. Tim Hennessey was right, he said over 10 years ago that once the name is gone, then they will be complaining about the Sioux name being wiped from history. Unbelievable.
  21. Is it possible because the lack of production they reduced his scholarship, or was the handwriting already on the wall? I know guys like Gaarder and Pattyn gained scholarship money from walk-on status, but is it common practice to reduce scholarship money due to poor performance or production?
  22. Would assume this makes Gardner coming in a sure thing.
  23. True, but we're coming! We're coming! ...and if NDSU ever agrees to play us away from home, all bets are off.
  24. You mean like the Wild tried to do with Gustav Olafsson?
  25. No, the Peaceniks, because the PC crowd would love that.
