You're right. I was done by then so I missed out on that. I also remember it being described as being as fruitless as "pissing into the ocean" by a few guys.
-
It's a matter of time. Personally, I'd much rather have the players focusing on getting to be better football players or taking care of business in the classroom than wasting their time doing work that the university's janitors and grounds crew should be doing. As a former player I do not ever remember shoveling snow off the field or cleaning the weight room prior to recruiting visits. We were expected to keep things picked up(weights on racks, locker clean, etc.) but we definitely weren't scrubbing or shining anything. Did that somehow make us less tough? Maybe so, but it certaintly didn't seem to hurt us much when we were beating up on teams in the playoffs.

Let's be honest... anyone who demeans the level the football team or the other athletes on campus play at, because they play at a "lower division", are demeaning them because they play a sport that the the rest of the country actually cares enough about to participate in. It's undeniable that the level of athleticism required to play FCS or even Division 2 football is light years above that of Division 1 hockey. A lot of the athletes on UND's hockey team and even in the NHL would simply not be there had hockey had anywhere near the participation level of football or basketball. Also, if all of the schools that participate in Division I football had hockey teams and funded them to the level they fund football, UND would solidly be in an FCS division for college hockey. There are at least 50 plus football stadiums at the FBS level that make the Ralph look like a sandbox in terms of seating and game atmosphere.

So would it be better if we just implied you were a thug? Or more appropriately an idiot?

Actually, you personally insulted a high school kid you've never met. In my opinion, that makes you more than fair game for ridicule on this message board or anywhere else it comes to you. You 100% brought this on yourself.

Philip Nelson leaving Minnesota football program
dlsiouxfan replied to UND-FB-FAN's topic in Football
This FCS football vs NCAA hockey debate is pointless. They are at least equivalent on a national level, if not FCS football having greater noteriety because of it's association with FBS football. Hockey just does not have the following nationally that the sport of football does and college hockey's following is nearly non-existent. I'll even predict that if UND football ever attains the level of success that NDSU's has, where we are winning repeated National Championships and routinely beating FBS schools, it will be the number one sport on campus. Hockey just does not have the following within the state of North Dakota nor anywhere else in the U.S.. -
Bubba's Staff: Who's it gonna be?.......and when?
dlsiouxfan replied to Siouxperfan777's topic in Football
I guess putting Hedberg in charge of ND means he won't have any of his recruits that need be picked up from the airport. Probably a good move given his shenanigans at St. Cloud. -
To be perfectly frank Division I hockey is a resource drain! NDSU's salary pool for their FB coaches is more than double that of UND's. That's a huge difference. Just think of the coaches who would have applied for the head job if we were offering $300K instead of $150K. That being said I'm going to support the new coaching staff but unless they get the support they need from administration at UND I"m going to be less than optimistic. Faison and Kelly are making the exact same mistakes their predecessors Kupchella and Thomas made by ceding their authority to the parasites over at REA.

Your first line isn't even correct. Just as many white kids have left as black kids.

Really, we've know it was down to 2 candidates for nearly 5 days now and he still hasn't even done final interviews with either of them. Try and name a single other university that would do something like that. He's completely botched this and I hope that his first act after naming the new coach is to turn in his own resignation because he's utterly incompetent.
-
It was a completely ignorant post and there is no reason to defend crap like that. The race of the players leaving isn't in any way relevant and isn't worth discussion. What does bear discussion is the fact that our AD let this program go over 30 days without a head coach out of what appears to be sheer laziness or incompetence.
-
The fact is that Faison has already set the program even further back with how he's handled this coaching hire. If the rumors are true and Golladay has left along with the contributors that have already been confirmed to have left, then the new coach will be coming into a program where the cupboard is essentially bare. Faison has completely <removed> this up by taking as long as he did. There is no way a coaching search like this should have taken this long. If Faison needed to get it declared an emergency hire then he should have and not doing it is inexcusable. It's what Taylor would have done, and ultimately the only people who would have been upset about not following the process would have been some fat-assed bloggers and a few legislators who are generally considered mentally unstable. There would have been literally no repercussions. If the speculation on this board turns out correct and either Schweigert or DeBoer ends up with the job, then it's just further evidence that Faison and Kelly aren't serious about the football program and need to be replaced.

' Honestly, if any of these people you know are employed in the athletic department then they are part of the problem and should be let go as well. This program is headed for 1 win or 2 win seasons indefinitely if Mussman remains the coach. The culture of this program absolutely sucks right now and I'd put 60% of the blame for that on the coaching staff. The remaining 40% of the blame lies with the players. I really question how much "love" these 18-22 years olds in our program have for the game or the program when we have seniors and juniors who play like they don't give a !@#$ and underclassmen who care so little about football that they can't stand on the sidelines anymore because they won't stop fucking around during games. I'm a UND football letterwinner and season ticket holder and I've had about as much as I can stomach with this program right now. I've spoken with people within the athletic department (but outside of the coaching staff) who've worked along side or directly with the program for 10-15 years and they describe a program that's basically a disorganized mess. The gameday and practice locker rooms routinely look awful since the players take little to no pride in their working areas and post game discussions between the players after embarassing losses is mainly about where the night's party is at with little to no reflection on how poorly they've just played. I've decided that if Mussman is still our coach after next season then we can only assume that Faison isn't really that serious about our football program and we need to change the title of this thread to "Fire Faison"

They looked the other way when rampant steroid abuse was going on in the football program in 1980's and early 1990's. There really is no denying that as it's been thoroughly documented. Also, despite the claims on here that the university has tried to distance itself from Lakes, it would appear that he continues to have uncommon access to players. I played college football at UND and if there was a fan or booster like Lakes it was reinforced by the coaching staff that we were supposed to stay the hell away from him. Either the NDSU football team doesn't listen to their coaches when it comes to ostracizing Lakes or the coaching staff sees some tangible benefit in him having access.

Which is why I didn't.... he'll screw himself over in due time. Personally, I don't know if I could do any business with KVRR in good conscience knowing they're tolerating his actions. I actually went over to his website to see what he was saying about this event. Big mistake. He has a thread devoted to his hatred of UND where he takes comments from this board and has his own commentary on them. He also has numerous posts about UND athletes and recruits. A large number of them include libelous claims or homophobic slurs. The man is a ticking time bomb for NDSU athletics and for KVRR. If I were either of them I wouldn't want anything to do with him.
-
Ha... I'll admit it was a bluff on my part about contacting his employer. If KVRR wants to be affiliated with that piece of trash then I guess that's their choice. It is pretty funny to watch him squirm over it and I have no doubt in my mind his idiotic actions will land NDSU or an NDSU recruit in hot water someday.
-
Any contact with a potential recruit regarding the recruiting process is an NCAA violation. Sam has been doing this for years and in multiple sports. The NDSU athletic department hasn't done anything about it because the entire program has little to no regard for NCAA regulations.
-
I'm strongly considering sending this to both the NCAA and to Sam Humann's employer. This is a blatant NCAA violation. This type of crap has gone on for too long at the AC.
-
The cupboard is pretty bare. If the redshirt and true freshmen were as talented as they've been described they'd be playing right now and we wouldn't be staring down a 2-9 season. Personally, I'd like to see quite a bit of turnover on the roster in the next few years under a new coach. A lot of players currently on the team have no business playing college football.
-
This thread is more or less pointless until after the coaching change is made. Any recruit that would commit to UND right now likely has zero other options. We'll probably take a hit in recruiting this year as it's unlikely a new coach will be in place until December as the coaching search should take a few weeks if done correctly. It's a small price to pay if we make the correct hire as it's going to take a new coach at least three or four recruiting class to turn this program around.
-
That's up to the incoming coach. Any new coach should have 100% control over who he has on his staff and which players remain on scholarship. Personally, I'd like to see a huge turnover in personnel both in the coaching staff and on the roster.
-
I agree with you that we have a lot of worthless seniors, but if there were guys who were better players on our roster then why weren't those guys on the field. The whole defense is a recruiting failure at this point. Completely talentless and that's 100% on the coaching staff since they brought all of these guys here.
-
Nothing. I 100% agree that Mussman and this staff should not be around next season. I'm just saying that overall the university needs to invest heavily in this football program and in his replacement.
-
Hopefully he gets the head job when Bohl leaves for Nebraska. Kleiman is probably the better coach and would probably be more open to coming here.
-
Well hire Vigen then or look at Montana or Montana State's assistants. We need someone who comes from a program that knows how to win and recruit at the FCS or FBS level.
