With the nickname change, there won't be nearly the donations coming in. Who's going to pony up? Phil Jackson? IMHO the nickname sets this back 5-10 years.
-
Absolutely, Standing Rock members have been so far denied their voting rights (by a white SBoHE, cheerleaded on by the UND President, the AD, and an almost entirely white faculty). The very issue the NCAA wanted was for NA's to have a voice, yet you want those voices silenced because they don't agree with you. Are you beginning to grasp the hypocrisy of your own views? Attend some logic classes. Quite revealing how you play the guilt emotion card. The anti-nickname faculty at UND play it all the time. It's also emotional-based reasoning rather than logic.

This is too important piece of knowledge for Sioux fans and deserves it's own thread: Radio interview of Grant Shaft by Scott Hennen Jump to 6:00 minutes. At 6:30 minutes Grant mentions the President and AD as "When you have the President of the University and its athletic director make a very compelling case (to the SBoHE) that they want to join a league, and that this issue is interfering with that"
-
Kelley and Faison (even though he is a "nice" guy) may have just become the most despised President and AD in UND history. Loved how Kelley talked in his on-campus forum about how the Board "felt" this and Board "felt" that. All for a six month jump on the Summit league? They had better have more answers than that. Does the NCAA have a vendetta against us? Is that the reason? Or how this is such an important civil rights issue that Standing Rock must be denied a voice? Or that somehow "divisive" issues are not to be tolerated? How tolerant! Could anyone imagine what kind of reception those two will receive if and when the Sioux nickname is retired? I'm writing some more letters.
-
Thanks for the links in your blog, Goon. Assumed that Kelley and Faison were pushing the SBoHE behind the scenes, but hadn't heard how blatantly as evidenced by this Grant Shaft interview. Grand Shaft interview - Kelley and Faison have been lobbying SBoHE hard to drop the nickname
-
From my understanding, some party with legal standing would have to sue the Summit League to see the proceedings of the Summit meetings. The Summit League is effectively a private entity. In this case, the Forum or other media don't have that right unless the Summit directly harmed them.
-
No. The Summit includes two private schools: Oral Roberts and Centenary as well as schools from other states. It would take court action to obtain Summit proceedings.

This letter, although posted elsewhere, deserves it's own thread: Steve Fool Bear Letter

Really can't argue with that. Donations are the bottom line concern the leadership has for alumni and the Alumni Association and the Foundation is the conduit. The Alumni Association and Foundation are one of the few vehicles in which alumni can decry the process as being a travesty of justice. In the past I have been assaulted on this board for making these statements: but let me repeat them. The Summit League instituting a policy to prevent UND from joining until the nickname was resolved was a major reason given by the SBoHE to change the name. Summit League policy is made by Summit League Presidents. A Summit President at the time the Summit nickname policy was adopted included NDSU's Chapman. Chapman supposedly worked for and reported to the SBoHE. The SBoHE never publicly questioned Chapman on the reasoning for this policy. Nor did the media. The focus was always on Douple, not on the Summit Presidents, who included Chapman. So, either the SBoHE was incompetent in investigating the "why" of the Summit League policy - what was the true source. Which presidents were actually adamant? Certainly not Oral Roberts or Centenary or even Southern Utah. The SBoHE had an employee as a Summit League board member and yet did not seek insight into the matter? Incredibly incompetent. Or it did not seek to negotiate when it had one of it's own on the Summit board? Again, no leadership reveals incredible incompetency. Or, with SBoHE having direct access to Summit League policy, the SBoHE was complicit in allowing the Summit League policy to stand. It's one or the other: The SBoHE was either incompetent in dealing with the Summit League - after all an "employee" was a board member - or it was complicit with it's actions.

Could you guys lay off the alternative nickname for a time while people grieve? It's more than insensitive at this time: like discussing what you hope is in a will while the deceased body is still warm.

April 6th, 2010 - Standing Rock Council Decision
star2city replied to star2city's topic in UND Nickname
So the board doesn't expressly say that they will honor a Standing Rock vote? The nickname is all but toast and the SBoHE is responsible. -
Here's the breakdown of how much the mid-major conferences will receive from the NCAA. CUSA's shares have fallen dramatically after Louisville, Cincinnati, DePaul, Marquette, St. Louis, and Charlotte left. CUSA gets to keep those credits, which have been expiring. Even Memphis' run to the Finals a couple of years ago wasn't enough to stop the bleeding. The WCC, the MWC, the MVC, and the Horizon will all soon have greater per school payouts than CUSA, unless Memphis returns to its former glory. Relatively speaking, the Horizon does well and the Butler run doesn't impact the Horizon (other than notoriety) as much as some think. Until this year, the MAC hadn't won a game for like six years. It's payout is just slightly above the Summits. 2003-08 NCAA basketball units payable 2009 Conference USA (44) $9,064,879 Atlantic 10 (27) $5,562,539 Missouri Valley (21) $4,326,419 Mountain West (20) $4,120,399 Horizon (16) $3,296,320 West Coast (16) $3,296,320 Western Athletic (15) $3,090,300 Colonial Athletic (13) $2,678,260 Mid American (7) $1,442,140 2004-09 NCAA basketball units payable 2010 Conference USA (38) $8,443,832 Atlantic 10 (29) $6,433,977 Missouri Valley (20) $4,444,122 Mountain West (18) $3,999,710 West Coast (16) $3,555,398 Horizon (15) $3,333,092 Western Athletic (14) $3,110,886 Colonial Athletic (13) $2,888,680 Mid American (6) $1,333,237 2005-10 NCAA basketball units payable 2011 (Projected Revenue) Conference USA (29) $6,433,977 Atlantic 10 (24) $5,324,670 Mountain West (21) $4,659,087 Missouri Valley (21) $4,659,087 West Coast (19) $4,203,965 Horizon (19) $4,203,965 Colonial Athletic (14) $3,110,886 Western Athletic (12) $2,662,336 Mid American (7) $1,555,443 2005-10 NCAA basketball units payable 2011 (Projected Revenue Per School) Conference USA $536,165 West Coast $525,496 Mountain West $517,676 Missouri Valley $465,909 Horizon $420,397 Atlantic 10 $380,334 Western Athletic $295,815 Colonial Athletic $259,241 Mid American $129,620

Great post and I that is the motivation for the "lack" of action. -

From a financial and leadership standpoint, definitely see your point. An election on the nickname would cost $'s from the SR tribe themselves. It is possible that SR is waiting affirmation that the SBoHE would indeed accept the results of the vote. It the SBoHE is going to change the name anyway, why should SR spent money on a special election? -
April 6th, 2010 - Standing Rock Council Decision
star2city replied to star2city's topic in UND Nickname
It's a passive aggressive way for the SR Council to pass the buck. Those council members remain opposed to the name. The resolution of the ND Supreme Court case possibly is delaying the SBoHE taking action. The SBoHE almost has to state to the SR Council that a referendum should proceed. Barring that, the Standing Rock people have to show up at the next council meeting and let their voices be heard. That's not likely. -

So does this leave an opening for the SBoHE to drop the nickname? Not sure it's game over, but it's not only the last inning, with an 0-2 count and two outs. -
If the Standing Rock Council doesn't approve this vote, the nickname could be eliminated Thursday by the SBoHE - as the ruling from the State Supreme Court on the the Spirit Lake lawsuit could be moot relative to the NCAA requirements. Pivotal Day for Fighting Sioux nickname

The over/under for Bison wins this year: 2.5.
-
Weren't you and Bisonville spouting off how NDSU was going to blow the Sioux out of the Dome. And a UND-NDSU game attracted how many fans in Fargo? Even a much vaunted Summit League match between NDSU-Oral Roberts game doesn't attract flies at Newman. Try again, Lakes.
-
So WDAY lied about the $100,000 of merchandise stolen from Best Buy? Suspensions really aren't ongoing with the football team? The Police never visited Bison football spring practice? All of those are lies in your eyes? Unbelievable. With that type denial, no wonder NDSU is collapsing. It has no moral foundation with alumni like you.
-
With a possible impending Bison football scandal, could see why Taylor and NDSU wanted the KFGO contract signed pronto.
-
Just saw that SDSU posters have been posting about this for a week. SDSU board posting on NDSU football players and Best Buy Why don't you take the same message to your "rivals"?
-
You'd also be much wealthier than you are now if you were given a dollar for every Bison football player that's been in legal trouble. You're gonna get wealthy soon! But truthfully, I can understand why you must be shaking in your boots over the status of your beloved program. Talk about a disastrous public relations - this would take the cake. You can't blame Hanson or UND for this one. The buck stops with Bohl. Supposedly Chapman had put Bohl on warning and this comes up! Imagine, if the allegations prove true, this was occuring during the last 3-8 season. No wonder they weren't into the game - they were thinking about their hot Play Stations. But don't worry, a lameduck Hanson can't do anything to Bohl even if the worst comes out in public.
