  1. I almost feel for him, with all the Foundation problems. Crazy. For Bison fans, at least it's not a football player: can't imagine what would happen if there was another FB DUI.
  2. Guess Dale seems some talent there. DeBoer to SIU Wasn't there a rumor that Bohl was trying to get DeBoer on his staff? So DeBoer chooses Lennon instead?
  3. Agree that has been the conventional wisdom for decades, but the conventional wisdom is always wrong at some junction in history. Will be interesting what the next five years bring. The Barnett Shale near Fort Worth, and the Haynesville Shale around Shreveport are major game changers and have almost insignificant groundwater contamination issues because the shales are deep. ExxonMobil paid $41 billion for a new wave natural gas company (XTO Energy) largely because they can not afford to be left behind with limited US natural gas assets. Seeking Alpha
  4. Osama bin Laden is concerned, too.
  5. A sea change has been occurring, and the main-stream media has not perceived the seismic shift. The American WSJ: America's Natural Gas Revolution For years, the US has dreamed of energy independence. Imagine: secure domestic energy for generations, no more huge financial transfers to OPEC, the Middle East losing it's source of power All could become reality within five years.
  6. UTSA is starting football with plans to move to the FBS level and is hoping for a CUSA or possibly WAC / Sunbelt berth by mid-decade. For the transition years that UTSA will be in the FCS, UTSA has informed the Southland that they will not play a Southland conference football schedule. Withholding it's football team from the Southland Conference is in violation of Southland rules. UTSA is in danger of being evicted from the Southland in all other sports- it may not happen for a few years, but is a definite possibility. Therefore, UTSA may be on the prowl for a non-football conference in the near term. The only conference that would likely consider them is the Summit.
  7. That's a legitimate question. First off: if a corporate official purposely grossly overspends on a project without notifying his bosses (in this case, the NDUS system) they are almost always fired. Second, prior to authorizing buildings, the NDUS wants to know the cost and scope, as it will be perpetually responsible for heating, cooling, upkeep etc. If someone had donated $10 million to build an NDSU president's home, that donation would still take huge amounts of future public expenses, and likely would have been rejected for that purpose. Third, Chapman was receiving deferred compensation payments early - through the NDSU alumni board and in direct violation of NDUS policy- without paying the appropriate tax. The IRS takes interest in such matters. Finally, there are budget mismanagment issues internally - unrelated to the house or Chapman's boondoggle trip - within NDSU that can directly affect taxpayers.
  8. Doubt that will happen: too embarassing to the state, the NDUS system, and to NDSU. And in the meantime, Chapman can remain a deity within the NDSU herd.
  9. Think you are reading Kuchella entirely wrong: he wasn't arrogant, just incredibly inept socially and with little media savy. How his son ever became an anchorman in MSP - those genes certainly didn't come from his father. I know that your statement about Chapman killing someone and you'd still support him is in jest (or at least I hope so), but Chapman literally did kill careers if it served him and NDSU. Chapman played the political system like a fiddle until fires he started could not be put out. He left too many knives in peoples' backs - by taking no responsibility for irresponsible actions among his former allies - he created numerous enemies even within NDSU. Basically, Chapman waged guerilla warfare in the NDUS system, all the time presenting himself as this nice old grandfather figure that wouldn't harm jack (rabbit). NDSU moving to an entirely higher level is a good thing: many of the means it was accomplished were not. To undo some of the landmines Chapman left, a new NDSU president of high character and politically saviness will be needed to navigate the warzone Chapman left.
  10. No shows aren't indicated by most schools in the statistics. It just seems like fans - and students - are demanding much more than there were 20 years ago: more comfort, more video, more social outlet (there to be seen), better food, higher level play.
  11. So I guess the Sioux name is worse than drug dealing, DUIs, and a plethora of other criminal actions at NDSU. What a commentary on our society.
  12. That's such a joke. Valparaiso - the one "name" school leaving the league was a risk: guess what? It happened three years ago. That was a more significant loss than any potential issue with a Sioux nickname. This is the same league that granted Centenary membership like 6 years ago, and claimed they would be an awesome long-time member, helping build up the conference, and instead Centenary doublecrosses the Summit and goes DIII. Yet Douple has the nerve to claim UND is a risk. Out of desperation, this league granted Southern Utah membership over ten years ago - Douple's school by the way- hoping they'd be gone within a few years, and they are still waiting for SUU to pack their bags because of huge travel expenses, - but yet they are claiming UND is a risk. This league granted Chicago State membership, and CSU couldn't hardly locate the NCAA manual on a myriad of issues, and UND is a risk. THe Big East splitting - very likely - is a huge risk that seems to be ignorned, because it would cause the following: Oral Roberts packing up and leaving is a risk. Oakland packing up and leaving is a risk. IUPUI packing up and leaving is a risk. IPFW packing up and leaving is a risk. UMKC packing up and leaving is a risk. Those are are much greater risks than UND and it's nickname with a legally binding 2010 date. Three reasons the Summit did this: Douple wants to pander and ingratiate himself to the NCAA (the NCAA offers some gravy train jobs, btw), Certain presidents in the Summit want to appear virtuous to the educational establishment and to American Indians, yet, hypocrites they are, do nothing in action in any way copmarable to what UND does, NDSU leadership wanted to spare itself the further embarassment at the DI level with "Sioux suck ***" cheers
  13. College hoops attendance truly anemic Utah: Where are the fans? Butler rated and still attendance drops Iowa attendance drops off cliff PAC10 Decline unthinkable
  14. The rumor says Feb 4th and Piit has been informing student-athletes. What a joke. Not going to happen in that manner.
  15. UTSA now plas to go it alone in Football - UTSA has dropped plans to play in Southland conference Let's get a home and home with UTSA for 2011/12. UTSA's move to bypass the Southland could also keep some Southland dates open - even with Lamar starting football.
  16. I don't doubt that. But his wife sure wanted it built - just in time for a wedding.
  17. Get a clue. Roger Thomas had the integrity to have a press conference, and listed numerous reasons why continiuing to play NDSU would be harmful to UND playoff chances in a number of sports. The subsequent ruckus among NDSU fans can be heard to this day: as if NDSU was dependent on playing UND to have any chance of a successful transition. No reporter had to ask UND because the position was clear. The opposite is true at NDSU: Taylor says they shouldn't play UND because of the nickname, then because of available dates, then because UND is in transition, and then he schedules USD.
  18. UC-San Diego to start football, move to DI? It's been rumored that the Big West will invite UC-San Diego to move up from DII to DI once the NCAA moratorium is over. UCSD has 27,000 students and is highly rated academically. If UC-San Diego moved up and added football, it would certainly seek admission to the Great West for football only.
  19. You're right. Because you didn't bash, Bisonville bashed you. Sorry. But with regards to Chapman, don't you see that you have a personal attachment to him because he was the one that brought NDSU to the DI promised land? That's not a bad thing at all, but many things that Chapman did outside NDSU - and now evidence is showing within NDSU - were ethically reprehensible. That article is prime evidence: denial of any responsibility.
  20. It's not about talking with him: he's a charmer. It's about working with him. Seems more like you perceive statements in this thread as an emotional attack on things you hold dear to you. Because of what occurred during Chapman's reign, Bison fans, including yourself, seem to have elevated him to god-like cult status. Any perceived statement that breaks apart the "Chapman is god" as a fallacy, is perceived as hate speech to people within the Chapman cult. Bison fans for years have attacked people like Roger Thomas or Kupchella with visciousness never ever seen on Siouxsports.com with Chapman, but that behavior was always seen as acceptable to most Bison fans, including yourself. Now, simple statements like Chapman's actions are corrupt,or that he lies to the press, or that he is a backstabber (see Potts epidsode) seem to send those same bison fans into a tizzy.
  21. The process was intentionally broken, with Joe's blessing, so that Mrs. Chapman could have her dream house Mrs. Chapman essentially had oversight. But, I guess, that was fixed.
  22. Jones biggest mistake is telling fans things like: "We look like a DI team now" early in the season. This team has dropped 50 points in the RPI rankings from last year. A "miracle" happened at NDSU without a conference to recruit into: Miles sold the Fab Five that they would compete in the Big Sky. Look at Seattle, which is in the same year of transition:
  23. Actually, agree with much of what you are saying: this message board would be upsetting for the players to read and could even turn off potential recruits. What is clear is that fans would get behind a team that is at least an average DI team (100-200 RPI). No one questions that the hockey players have talent, but they also play a higher level of competition. If UND was in the MVC in basketball and we were 12-12, there wouldn't be many complaints. I would add that the players, who likely had DII or lower options, chose to go to the DI route, where expectations and criticism are much higher. It comes with the territory.
