  1. I wouldn't fault you for being offended by the Vikings based on their recent play!
  2. And apparently Blais wrote a letter to the league telling them that if Adam was assigned to further UND games that season that DB would not put a team on the ice. That was the last time UND saw Adam for some time. I remember several times when Adam was reffing games during Commodore's tenure with the Sioux when a penalty would be assessed against MC and he wasn't even on the ice at the time, rather sitting on the Sioux bench. In my opinion, Adam has always had a thing for rough, tough guys (think Commodore and Prpich with four penalties tonight) and superstars. It doesn't seem like Parise could draw a penalty tonight unless, of course, he ran into Prpich, in which case MP would probably get two minutes for who knows what. Last year in St. Cloud on Friday night Parise had the puck at one point and was stickhandling through the offensive zone when a Huskie hooked ZP around the neck - Adam called nothing. Parise reaches up to push the stick off his neck and Adam immediately called ZP for holding the stick. In all my years of watching college hockey it is one of the most ridiculous penalties I have ever seen called, but it epitomizes Adam's approach to the game.
  3. My buddy and I are sitting here watching the Gopher/Tech game and it is about four minutes in and there looks like there are only about 2,000 people there. What a tremendous atmosphere! -------------------- It is now about eight minutes in and there are definitely more empty seats than full seats if the views on tv are any indication. That is sad.
  4. Seeing this reminds of the last time you posted related data, it elicited quite a response from at least one gopher fan. And that got me thinking that I don't recall this board ever being so devoid of comments from the Gopher "faithful." Although I like most of those guys, the peace and quiet is kind of nice. I guess a 2-7-1 start will do that to some fans.
  5. Ah, bulletin board material, you gotta love it! Well, he is from the Czech Republic so I am not sure how much English he understands, but I am guessing Greene, Jones, Schneider and crew will remind him in universal terms that UND is a big, strong and physical team.
  6. My vote has always been for the 98-99 team even though they didn't win a championship. They were absolutely dominate during the regular season ending 32-6-2. At one point, they were 18-1-1, I believe, in the league which is remarkable. And although they didn't have the huge names like the '80, '82 and '87 teams, they did have Karl, the Panzers, the Ulmers, Goren, Roche, Commodore, Blake, K. Hoogsteen, Williamson, Dorey and Defauw, among others. They were a pleasure to watch, but it sure was disappointing not seeing them in Anaheim. Thankfully, the 2000 team got BC back for knocking UND out the year before.
  7. I enjoy INCH. They provide good information and don't take themselves too seriously. A person doesn't always have to agree with their point of view, but I think they are very knowledgeable. Keep in mind for as few writers as they have, they kick out a lot of info. Sure, sometimes it reads like a rag, but USCHO does too as does this board on occasion. I met the two main INCH guys in Buffalo last year and they are humorous, fans of the game and had some nice things to say about ND and our tradition. I can't fault that!
  8. He and Jason Herter had two of the hardest shots I have seen at the college level. The kind of slapshots that made the fans oooh and aaah everytime they would wind up. Naumenko is a career minor leaguer. Herter, a former first round draft pick who played for UND in the early 90's, was also a career minor leaguer, but played one game in the NHL for the Islanders.
  9. I don't think it is any coincidence that the year with the highest pp percentage (95-96) was the year that they used a defensemen with an absolute rocket at the point to blast shots at the net. I don't think either Schneider or Fuher shoot the puck as hard or fast as Naumenko, but they aren't too far behind and that is why I would like to see them both on the point blasting away. Naumenko was great at getting the puck and firing it on net - good things happen when that is done! Slow, weak wrist shots from the point (Lundbohm) won't ever cut it in this league. btw, this is not a knock on Lundbohm who is a very good player.
  10. The last time UND was held to three goals in a series was by St. Cloud during February of 2000 and we all know how that season ended for UND - title #7!!!
  11. Sorry, nothing personal. The fact is the games T. Anderson has done involving UND over the last two seasons have been poorly officiated with A LOT of whistles. In each game, he dictated the flow, or better said lack thereof, of the game making them difficult to watch as a fan and I am sure frustrating as a player. The fact that he has called little or nothing while doing St. Cloud games over the same time period shows he has no consistency whatsoever. Poor officiating is to be expected, but absolutely horrible officiating is intolerable at this level.
  12. Uh, what? He reffed the BC series this season and if you recall he called 24 penalties Saturday night and 11 Friday night which makes 35 for the weekend. He also called 20 penalties Friday night last season when doing the UND at Denver series. It is hockey, not basketball for crying out loud. He is as whistle happy as they come in the WCHA. Also, according to the WCHA website Goddard and R. Anderson are already out of reffing, at least in the WCHA. I do, however, agree that a two-ref system is needed and that Schmidt and Campion are two of the better refs in the league.
  13. Didn't two or three UND guys get the "flu" right before or during their trip to CC last season. Is it an untimely coincidence or some sort of conspiracy on the part of the CO schools? Poll anybody?
  14. He was recruited by Duluth and CC, but dreamed of playing for UND, therefore, he commited to UND and was provided scholarship money once he commited. It is a matter of semantics, but I don't think he is considered a walk-on. In the true sense of the word, walk-ons either show up for practice, notify the coach that they want to play for a school or are invited to try out by the coach. If they make the team, they generally play their first year without scholarship money, which is not the case with Ziggy. Ziggy's situation could be more easily equated with Prpich's from last year - a late summer recruit rather than Foyt who showed up, tried out and made the team. Ziggy is the most down-to-earth, quiet, humble person you could ever encounter. He probably couldn't care less whether he was considered a walk-on or not, he is just proud to be wearing the green and white.
  15. Ziggy is attending UND on a partial scholarship, much like the rest of his teammates. I believe Foyt may be the only true walk-on on the team, but I am not positive about that.
  16. He shattered AB's nose. My friend who was working for Midwest Sports Channel - Wisco at the time was in the tunnel when they carried AB to the lockerroom and said he was a bloody mess. I believe one of the linesmen also left the ice briefly to get stitched up after getting injured trying to break up that "fight."
  17. He did that too, but his name was Matt Noga from St. Cloud. Noga was a wizard with his stick behind the play and deserved what he got from Commodore.
  18. I would be licking my chops if I saw this weenie in a courtroom. Can you imagine how he will react the first time a judge says OVERRULED to one of his objections - his head may explode. I wear Sioux garb to all road games I attend be it a t-shirt, jersey, cap, or leather jacket. I have been pelted with licorice and told to sit down after cheering goals in MN; I have been called a racist in St. Cloud; I have been taunted, called names and had things "spilled" on me in Mankato; AND I loved it all! If you cannot handle a hostile environment, stay home, drink tea and read romance novels (no offense to forecheck who loves romance novels from what I hear).
  19. Great name! Did you just reform this season due to their poor play or did you see the light awhile ago?
  20. Considering we are nine games into JP's and NZ's career it would be a mistake to say that Ziggy is likely the odd man out. Considering the possibility of injuries, slumps, and the fact that they are both freshmen it is WAY too early to even speculate. Let's not forget that even though JP has been given the back-up nod thus far, his numbers, other than wins and remember Siembida had a lot of those last year, are not that good. That is not to say that I don't think JP has potential, too, because I do. As for next season, my guess is DB keeps four. That way, following JB's graduation, UND should be set in net for at least three years assuming Lamoureux pans out, but, again, it is way too early to do much speculating.
  21. I don't believe Ziggy came in expecting to be the starter his freshman year, my guess is he was looking for a chance to improve his game and log some icetime. Last year he started slow for Lincoln, but really came on after Christmas and had a great second-half and it wouldn't surprise me to see the same improvment this year. He has the potential to be a very good goalie at the college level. But, for now, it is a nonissue. Unless or until Brandt proves otherwise, he deserves to be the #1 guy.
  22. Agreed, but some players such as Parise would rather stay in college than play in the minors (this is based on what ZP has said several times in past interviews; he and DB have both made it clear that ZP wants to jump right into the NHL when ready.) Of course, if there is a lockout and it lasts two years or more and ZP graduates that is a entirely different situation.
  23. RR77, If there isn't a lockout, where do you think they will go? Of course they will be back in that situation. In all likelihood, they aren't going to leave college for the Russian Elite League. And, under any situation, I don't envision a "recruiting mess." For sure, UND loses Lundbohm, Palmo and Hale after this season, all forwards. As of now, DB is expecting letters from two forwards, Zajac and Rylan Kaip. If Parise left, UND would be down four forwards, but bringing in two forwards. But, as it stands we lose three and bring in two at forward - at this point. Based on what you say, it would be a mess if Parise stayed. How do you figure? UND would have one of the best players in the nation back in uniform. They lose Lundbohm, who will join the century club, but is replaceable; they lose Palmo who hasn't played a whole lot in his career; they lose Hale who is a fourth liner when not playing defense; and they bring in Zajac who is leading the BCHL in scoring! The "mess" comes if there isn't a lockout; UND risks losing a lot more than just Parise. Think Bochenski, think Greene, think Schneider, think Jones. At the last Sioux Boosters in Fargo, DB said, from his perspective, those five could all be gone after this year if the situation is right for those players. I hate to say this, but I hope there is a lockout and I hope all the players that should be back come back. If they do, opponents will have a real hard time keeping up with UND next year.
  24. I just watched the tape of last Friday's win over the Gophs and listened to Woog say that UND historically grants phantom assists and that only once this season (pre-Gophs) had the official scorers at UND given a single assist on a UND goal. I then took a few moments and went through UND's boxscores from this season courtesy of USCHO. Through nine games played at UND this season (not counting Concordia), the Sioux have scored 43 goals. Of the 43 goals goals, 22 have been officially scored with a single assist. In other words, over 50% of UND's goals have resulted from a single assist. With regard to the Gopher series, SIX of UND's 12 goals involved a single assist. On the flipside, UND's opponents have scored 21 goals at REA this season. Of those, only seven resulted from a single assist. Of course a few were unassisted, but the majority were officially recorded with two assists. What does all this mean, well it means that UND may very well grant phantom assists, but if this season is any indication, apparently the phantom assists are being granted to UND's OPPONENTS!!!
