  1. Sicatoka brings up some very good points. I have also heard that the arena does not even have a determined site. They could build it next to the Fargodome, downtown, 61st ave., wherever. All the measure states is that if the arena is approved, Cityscapes will build a $60MM business/condo complex. $40 MM still seems very high for an arena of this size. How large, and for how much was the Little Ralph built in TRF? I would think a hockey arena suitable for HS that seats around 3,000 could be built for $10MM. USHL in Fargo? Already tried it multiple times. Maybe in about ten years a team could be sustained.
  2. Possibly, but it's an even greater question in the context when that religion's people are used as a nickname and are supposedly being honored by it's use. Have any protests about the carpet in the Oval Office occurred?
  3. Exactly. This wouldn't even be a discussion if this was www.FlickertailSports.com.
  4. Yes, it's paint and not a sacred bison. I agree with the concept, but not the argument used. You're adding an extra degree of separation in the bison scenario. NDSU's nickname is bison, and last I checked, there were no students at NDSU that are bison. Maybe I missed it, but I don't remember a herd of bison in front of the BSA protesting the nickname. If NDSU had some prairie grass or sedges painted on center court it might be a parallel.
  5. UNO offers fourteen sports, the minimum required for DI membership. To be able to field a DI-A football team, a minimum of sixteen sports must be sponsored.
  6. The bison being considered sacred is a Sioux concept, not a bison one. The whole granite eagle feather argument is presented in the context of Sioux concepts and beliefs.
  7. star2city, Apology accepted, although I didn't necessarily think one was needed. I think both of the proposed "audits" are petty and stupid. The info the legislators supposedly want could be fairly easily obtained, as both subjects of the "audits" have audits performed or report the needed information already. Had I penned a letter to The Forum, it would have been a near verbatim letter as the one that was in The Forum.
  8. I'm all in . As much as I would like to be able to take credit for the letter, it wasn't me.
  9. star- it's unfortunate that the NCAA does not separate cross-country skiing from the Alpine events.
  10. The "recruiting area" also has to do with tuition. I'm sure the UND athletic department would rather pay student-athlete tuition that is in-state or that at least from a state that has some sort of reciprocity.
  11. This "legislation" is nothing more than murmurs from the DII members to control their membership. Any legislation would need to take place at the DI level. ESPNInsider- please show me where any Bison fans are stating that NDSU could win a NC at the I-A level (they definitely are not on the Bisonville board). Maybe at the I-AA level in 5-10 years, but the vast majority of Bison fans know that NDSU would be lucky to receive a bid to the Butter Cream Mint Bowl after 10 years and a lot of financial support.
  12. Looks like Koenig will be transferring to UND- Koenig to play for Sioux men
  13. One Bison fan (no 's') stated Koenig would have to sit a year and wouldn't start. That's a pretty broad brush you're painting with. There are probably more compelling reasons for Koenig to transfer to UND than NDSU. His UW-GB bio states he hasn't decided on a major yet- that might also be a determining factor on where he decides to transfer (the student portion of student-athlete).
  14. Sounds like he found out his grant will not be renewed today. The WDAY 10:00 sports reported they talked to a friend of Koenig's, and he is considering UND. No word about NDSU, but sitting one year might be a factor.
  15. DII BB uses the "earned access" rule, as well as football?
  16. Facilities, add five more sports, add a lot more financial aid, at least double the athletic budget, and get more fan support than the local high school. Sounds like a lot of pieces to put in place.
  17. UND92,96 NDSU hasn't even declared that Equestrian would be added, it's merely speculation at this point. However, it does make sense as NDSU is a major partner in the North Dakota Horse Park(especially the indoor arena) and has Equine Science and Veterinary programs. Synergy between athletics and academics . The maximium number of grants for Equestrian is 15. btw- women's hockey was an NCAA emerging sport in the mid-90's.
  18. I think Manhattan might be a 2-for-1, as well. I know Miles said that some of the schools woudn't go for just a home/home.
