Averaging 57 grants prior to the third season would be impossible in the timeline bincitysioux provided (i.e. the fifth year of NDSU's transition). Going by the "five year timeline", the first year is the exploratory year, in which DII limits (36 grants) are still in effect. The fourth year is the first year that a I-AA team could count as a win towards bowl certification.

The UND game was in today's The Forum predictions. Looks like Sioux fans can finally get a good night's sleep.
-
It's seven for BB, which allows a conference to share in the mulit-billion dollar TV contract.
-
FOX sports reported the contract is $100k/year base, with performance incentives. An interresting note would be to see whether those incentives have any provisions at the I-AA level. The length of the contract seems to hint at an impending move to DI (exploratory year this year or next, with his contract covering the entire transition years).

Huh? One of her relatives is saying that NDSU had contacted her prior to her verbal to UND, and a UND poster is stating that NDSU had recruited her before the verbal. Sounds like my scenario is absolutely possible. In fact, it sounds nearly identical to how the Minnesota football program recruits.
-
That very well could have been the scenario that's causing all the fuss. Ex.- "Best of luck at UND. Thanks for considering NDSU. If you decide to change your mind, there's a full ride available at NDSU." Could that be misunderstood as an offer by a high school student?
-
[speculation based on a rumor]If Ruley did not know, offered, and then did not retract her offer (or at least let it be known that the offer was no longer on the table), I would be upset at yet another chapter in the pissing match known as the rivalry of NDSU/UND(or UND/NDSU depending on where you live). [/speculation based on a rumor]

If a university compliance officer and head coach can oversee a prospective student-athlete playing professional basketball less than 75 miles away, I'm sure a coach could overlook that somebody gave a verbal. Anybody have a recording of the phone call? Without any evidence, it's currently nothing more than hearsay.
-
Possibly because at this point it's nothing more than a she-said/she-said rumor. Even IF there's any substance to this rumor, the truth may never surface. Maybe Ruley called and offered Bergan before Ruley knew she had verballed.

NCAA claims Indian mascot guidelines apply to BCS
bisonguy replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
There was a release a couple months back stating the BCS was supposedly going to look at the NCAA's policy and decide whether or not to follow it. Now that the NCAA has granted Florida State an exemption, this could be an attempt by the NCAA to "force" the BCS to follow suit. -
Dang it, I was ready to give you a nice deal on it. Yeah, I know state/instiution appropriated money is not in the proposed budget on the IAC site, but I can venture to guess that it's in the actual budget, whether as coaches salaries (what I've heard most of the state appropriated funds are used for at both NDSU and UND), or 'other', or in the revenue for particular sports, or whatever else.
-
If you believe that UND receives absolutely no state and/or institutional support for athletics, I have a bridge to sell you in north Fargo. The UND administration/alumni would be raising a huge stink if they knew that NDSU was receiving state monies for athletics, while UND was receiving none. Remember the whole proposed, "No state monies may be used for Divsion I athletics, EXCEPT for sports that were DI prior to 2003" state legislation? It would appear that UND prefers to list their appropriated funds into the particular sports' budgets.

Update from Tuesday's meeting DAC seeking more info before D-II decision
-
PCM, Thanks for the clarification on the ruling. I suppose the endzones could just be painted white in 2006, but I know the underlying Magic Carpet turf in the endzones in the Fargodome shows through the paint slightly. If the paint happened to wear off during a game, the 'Sioux' in the turf would show through I'm sure UND will cross that bridge if or when they need to.
-
What about the endzones? Isn't the 'Sioux' in the actual Magic Carpet turf system, rather than painted on?

Sioux - Bison ** Great chance to fact the past*
bisonguy replied to SiouxFootballField's topic in Football
Pretty doubtful, as any student athlete that transfers from a DII to a DI(A or AA) would have to sit a year, and could possibly lose a year of eligibility. DI only allows five continuous years of eligibility, so if the student-athlete had already redshirted, they would have to sit a year, and would then only have three seasons of eligible participation (less any they already competed in). They'd probably be better off transferring to another NCC or NSIC school. The bigger reason for transfers if UND moved to DI-AA would be due to the stricter financial aid and roster sizes. DI-AA only allows a maximum of 63 equivalencies to be distributed to a maximum of 85 student-athletes, and the roster has to be limited to 90 student-athletes before classes begin. I believe UND's roster currently is around 110-120 student-athetes (I know NDSU's DII roster size was usually in the 110s, and remember UND's being in the same neighborhood). -

Here's the five other finalists besides Bohl for NDSU- Casey Bradley- Current Bison Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. Was also Defensive Coordinator under former Bison coach Bob Babich from 1997-2002. Terry Allen- Associate Head Coach/Tight Ends at Iowa State. Rocky Hager- At the time of being a finalist, an Assistant Coach at Temple University. Former Bison Head Coach, and currently the Head Coach of DI-AA Northeastern. Dan Enos- At the time of being a finalist, he was an Assistant Coach at Western Michigan. Bohl then hired him as the Offensive Coordinator for NDSU in 2003, and is currently the quarterbacks coach at the University of Cincinnati. Dennis Wager- At the time of being a finalist, he was the Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Line Coach at Fresno State, and is currently the Offensive Line Coach at Nebraska. -
How good? Section 207 row C is currently best available on Ticketmaster.com

Minnesota played Illinois State, not Western Illinois last year. They were a 4-7 I-AA team, with only one win over a I-AA opponent with a winning record. NDSU plays Southern Illinois this year, who beat Illinois State by more than the Gophers last year. We'll all be able to answer the if's and but's with the Comparative Score Index at the season's end.
