Pennick verballed to NDSU today.

Fullerton does not make the decision on who will be invited, should Big Sky expansion occur. UND's lack of commitment and "Johnny come lately" inquiry for admission (if the process is to that point), might be a stumbling block. Remember, the Big Sky was already burned once by a DII school that promised it was moving up after schedules were made for all sports. Once bitten, twice shy.....

Found this Golden Oldie of NCC schools looking at DI-Information being gathered on possible Divison I switch Note, that this is when Bob Entzion was still the NDSU AD- From 08/18/1999- Maybe NDSU/SDSU/UNC/UND in the Big Sky has been in the works for years? In Steve Hallstroms weekly talks to Big Sky schools, he reported last week that the coaches and AD's of the Big Sky are in favor of adding three or four schools.

Fulleton made a visit to NDSU years before the decision to move to DI was made. (1996 or 1998)

Good breakdown RD17 (aka SSI guru) It's good to see the NCAA taking steps to rectify the SSI.

Sicatoka, Do you have any examples of a college athletics program whose television coverage at more than a local level, is covered by broadcasters using the equipment provided by the facility? It would seem if they did so that they no longer would have control of their broadcast. Would they have to bring along their own camera crew? I would think that they would have a strong preference to using their own equipment. How about the editing equipment? Would the crew be familiar with it? Aren't the camera crews provided by WDAZ? That might cause a conflict of interest with other networks. Fox Sports didn't seem to have a problem getting the UNC/NDSU game on national TV, and I doubt that Nottingham Field has the same capabilities as the Alerus or Fargodome for TV production.

Facilities=Success? How did NDSU have the most dominant NCC track programs with what has been called a not-so-great BSA?

If UND is showing interest to the Big Sky (and/or DI, in general), I see a few "issues"- 1) NDSU and SDSU were told last year that the Big Sky was "not looking to expand into the Dakotas at this time". What has changed since last year to make the Big Sky think a little differently? NDSU and SDSU are no longer in their "exploratory year" and are in the first year of the DI reclassification process. The Big Sky was previously burned by a school that promised it was moving to DI, but backed down at the last minute. The commitment to DI has to be made before they will take any school seriously (as evidenced by the 'newfound' interest in the Dakota schools) 2) Tick-tock, tick-tock, the clock is running. With the 18 month notification required by the NCC, UND is already three years behind the reclassification process of SDSU and NDSU. Would the Big Sky be willing to wait that long if they're looking to announce expansion plans in April 2005? Would any Big Sky presidents be willing to waste their time considering a school that won't be available to make the jump for a few years, and might not even be serious? 3) Those 'other' sports- track and cross country. Doug Fullerton has repeatedly stated that track and cross country are extremely important to the Big Sky schools, as that's the sport they are most competitive at on the DI level. I know that NDSU and SDSU have very strong track and cross country programs, how about UND?(seriously, not a rhetorical question)

Via the WDAY 6:00 news, the soldier was identified as Lance Koenig, 33, of Fargo. He was married with two children, and was a two-time All-American wrestler for NDSU. My thoughts and prayers for his family and friends.

I don't think a person can be used on the design. A mosquito and a snowblower (possibly with a block heater) would be a pretty accurate depiction. Edit- Obviously people can be used (such as Lincoln and Rodney), but I heard something about this on the radio last week why Maris couldn't be used. They said he didn't meet some criteria. Here's the basic guidelines- Design Criteria- maybe it's the sports aspect that wouldn't allow Maris to be on the quarter.

If NDSU heads "up" I-94, the only place they would stop is at Montana or Montana State. Buy an atlas.
-
Diggler, That's more info than I needed. Here goes: 8 So, the lesson today boys and girls, is that even-numbered interstates (I-94) travel east/west, and odd-numbered interstates(I-29) travel north/south.
-
Do I need to draw a map?
-
I-94 goes to Bismarck or Minneapolis from Fargo (i.e. east/west).
-
Maybe not UConn, but Tennessee is in the works.

Coastal Carolina is only in their second year of having a football program (not just I-AA, but ANY football). The two wins they have were against DI-AA non-scholarship (PFL teams) and they barely squeaked by in those. With mainly freshman and sophmores on the team(some transfers- but nobody with more than two years on the team), they're not a good measuring stick. Newberry, on the other hand, is interesting. They beat a fledgling I-AA program, and have beat two DII schools by a combined 94-19. Maybe this is their year to have a winning record, maybe they will make the playoffs.

Yup. It's been a long week

NDSU VB won't be playoff eligible until 2006, so in one word- no. The quandry was to get DI schools on the schedule. No DI schools wanted to schedule a first year DI reclassification school, as they count as a DII for the RPI. The only way NDSU could be a DI counter for the RPI was to schedule a vast majority of games against DI schools (I believe they only could have a total of four games against non-DI schools). It was an "All or nothing" mission. A disclaimer had to be made in scheduling that NDSU was trying to be an RPI counter, but if they didn't meet the minimum number of DI games to be an RPI counter, the game would be cancelled.

Doh! I could have sworn that baseball was listed in there, but after checking section 20.4.1.3 on page 362 of the NCAA DI Manual, it clearly states that it's only football, men's basketball, and women's basketball. Interesting, hockey doesn't count against the one men's program playing at the DI level quota, as there isn't a DII championship. Edit- I should have known better than to question Jim's knowledge of the NCAA books.
-
I believe DII Basketball follows a similar SSI as football. If that's the case, it's understandable to not have that game happen. Volleyball wouldn't have happened- NDSU was too busy scheduling DI schools to be an RPI qualifier. Track is more of a tournament event-Neither school really cared for hosting the other in non-conf. meets.(There are probably are other reasons, same as VB, but I'll refrain from listing them) It takes two to Tango, and NDSU and UND ain't dancin'.
-
Jim, a NCAA DII or DIII school cannot participate in DI Baseball, either (per your old post you linked to). Football, Basketball, and Baseball (not sure if women's softball is also included) are the only sports that a DII or DIII school cannot participate at the DI level.

Ha Ha! It's called a jailbreak because the offensive line releases automatically downfield to block.
-
Tunnel or Jailbreak screen is outside-in (from sidelines towards the middle of the field), a bubble screen is inside-out (from middle of the field towards the sideline). NDSU doesn't really run a tunnel (they have on occasion the last couple years- but only maybe once a game), but they do go to a quick slant.
