  1. From the FOX 9:00 news: One possible replacement name being thrown around (they did not state by whom) is 'Sundogs'.
  2. I don't see how my response could be viewed as "kind" on that thread. I merely stated that tony's post was eloquent, which IMO it was by definition: I then provided a link that provided documented proof on one of the statements that he made: using this link-http://www.uiuc.edu/dialogue/und_pdf/Tribal_Statements.pdf which has copies of the letters from the tribal councils written to UND. I've also been looking for proof that the Sioux tribes gave UND their blessing to use the Sioux name when UND began using it in the 1930's, as claims have been made of that with no proof. If I find that and post it somewhere, does that make me in favor of using Native American nicknames?
  3. Have you read any of McFeely's columns about NDSU athletics? He's typically very critical of NDSU, and is about as far away from having his nose up the Bison backsides as one can be. btw- He is a MSU-Moorhead alum. He's paid to be controversial and get people talking. He's obviously earning his paycheck with this column.
  4. Obviously, UND receives appropriated money from the state for athletics. Remember the proposed bill that would have not allowed state funds for DI athletics, but it excluded sports that were DI prior to 2003? The monies just can't be identified in the proposed budget.

    Canad Inns

Per the KVLY 5:00 news tonight: No funding has been secured for the hotel, although there are alleged investors that will finance it if local sources back out. No start date has been set. Mayor Brown is confident that construction will begin this year. Canad could not be reached for comment.
  6. Team Makers funds have (up until the 2005-2006 season) been a general fund, not appropriated to any particular sport (some donations can now be specified for which sport). Throw in revenue for parking at Redhawks games and parking at the Fargodome, costs for training supplies (exactly how much tape and how many knee braces did the women's BB team use?, which team is paying for those new 45 lb plates or the new treadmill?), and I definitely can see the use of a "miscellaneous" column. Guess it's two different methods of accounting, but I don't see how everything can fit neatly into each sport's line colummn. Seems too similiar to the schools that have revenue equal expenses.
  7. You missed another good number, namely "Not allocated by gender Revenue". NDSU had $1,221,504, while UND had $0. That definitely has an effect on the bottom line. (NDSU:$40,406 UND:$406,724)
  8. I'm suprised UND hasn't had more of an advertising campaign in Fargo. I haven't seen a billboard, whereas I've seen at least two or three in Fargo in previous years, and no TV ads yet. No radio ads that I've heard for at least three weeks, either.
  9. UND92,96, NDSU's single game tickets are $12 for endzone seats (GA or reserved) and $16 for sideline seats. Homecoming is an extra $2 per seat (except children are always $5/seat).
  10. When was the last time you travelled on I-29 in Fargo around 8 AM or 5 PM? Before I-29 was widened and I lived in south Fargo, I have fond memories of the 32nd Ave. S exit backing up to the I-94 interchange at 5 PM in the late 90's. As Fargo continues sprawling, the trend is for the city to grow north and south. There's three Fargo street exits for I-94, but there's currently seven street exits for I-29. If most Fargo people don't use I-29, it sure would be nice of them to get their vehicles off the interstate.
  11. bincity, it should be noted that three of the "regional" DI-AA budgets your are using in your average are schools still in transition to DI, and are increasing in the neighborhood of $1MM a year to get closer to the budgets of the other schools.
  12. Are you talking about actual revenue and expenses, or just projected revenue and expenses? Search as I might, but the only budget numbers I could find on the IAC site are merely projections. Two of the projected revenue line items on the IAC site ask the question, "Where exactlly do the dollars from 'Miscellaneous Income' and 'Administrative Income' come from?".
  13. Just stumbled across this looking at a new response in the football forum, but I wonder if this had anything to do with it?- West Georgia looks at DI
  14. Looks like another school caved- Full story- http://www.ajc.com/sports/content/sports/0705/10state.html
  15. Of course it's impossible to predict the net profit of a game. A projection, however, can be made, and that's the portion of NDSU's budget that PCM and Sicatoka keep bringing up. They're talking about last year's budget (2004-2005), and when the projected $1MM shortfall was announced, NDSU only had five home football games at the time. It was clearly stated in the article that another home game would deduct $100k from the projected red ink. To answer your other questions- yes, season tickets cost more if there are more games- don't know what the guarantee was (probably around $25-35k).
  16. Isn't there an NCC rule that only allows a limited number of athletic grants to be allocated to a select group of sports? I thought the NCC limited grant numbers in sports other than football, basketball, and possibly baseball to a limit of 10 or 15 combined. Maybe UND chooses to distribute their grants to other sports (such as swimming and diving), so recruiting for track and field is difficult.

    Going D1-AA

I knew I'd forget at least one. Cornell is, of course, another Ivy school with a I-AA football program. Canisius is DI-AAA (no football) Maine is by far the best comparison, with a similar enrollment and budget(relatively speaking- last year it was $12MM).

    Going D1-AA

I believe that UND was looking at New Hampshire, as well.
