Here's the schools that are I-AA in football and have DI hockey, with their I-AA football conference in parentheses: Brown (Ivy), Colgate(Patriot), Dartmouth(Ivy), Harvard(Ivy), Holy Cross(Patriot), Maine (A-10), UMass(A-10), New Hampshire(A-10), Northeastern(A-10), Princeton(Ivy), Sacred Heart(Northeast), and Yale(Ivy).

Look here for the Carr Report results- http://www.ndsu.edu/ndsu/administration/pr...ive_summary.pdf Here's a good recap of info from when NDSU began the transition to DI- http://www.in-forum.com/specials/d1decision/ (you have to register for the in-forum site)

star2city- why a new VB coach? I thought the UND VB team has seen marked improvement in the last couple years.

Not all of the print edition of The Forum is available at the in-forum site, and it seems to be more frequent with the introduction of the new pay http://www.theforumplus.com/ site. That said, I didn't see anything in the print edition, but I would guess they'd pick up the AP version of it tomorrow.

I disagree. With additional financial aid requirements, higher coaches' salaries, higher guarantees, more sports sponsorship requirements, higher travel expenses, etc. a DI school's budget will typically be more than that of an equivalent DII school. Even the UND IAC seems to think there's a DI budget:

star2city, Do you have any examples of The Forum attempting to sway UND (or at least public opinion) towards not moving to DI? IMO, The Forum has stated that UND more than likely will make the move to DI eventually, and any "jabs" have been more of a jovial, "Are you moving to DI, yet? How about now?" sort of comment. Does this mean that the GF Herald has it out for NDSU? I personally think that with The Forum/WDAY/WDAZ having media contracts with both NDSU and UND, it would be in their best interest for both schools to be at the same level, generating increased public interest, and therefore, generating increased advertising revenue for The Forum/WDAY/WDAZ.

To Kupchella from FB alumni.
-
But still present, nonetheless. And yes, I believe that the failed grant reduction legislation gives UND less motive from M.O.M. (Kupchella's words) to move to DI. I don't. There's only twelve people that know what exactly was written, and the lack of it being written on UND letterhead prevents open records laws from revealing it.
-
Exactly, and the proposed NCAA legislation had little relevance in the letter written by the letterwinners to Kupchella, and none in Kupchella's response.
-
If the "NCAA changes" that would "force" UND to move to DI would be a reduction in grant levels for DII football, why hasn't UND moved to DI after one of the numerous prior reductions in grants? Yes, the letter (< that's the link right there) was in response to football alumni pressing for a move to DI-AA. The reason for their pressing the DI issue is not expressed anywhere. Back to the topic- Buning was on Prime Time Sports on WDAY-AM last night. Seems like a good guy and should be able to do good things at UND.
-
Forced? Did Myles Brand have Kupchella in a headlock? Strange that there was no mention of "NCAA changes" in the letter.

Some of the bowl games were retained, or new ones created, as part of the playoffs. The Camelia Bowl was the DII national championship game for the 1973-75 seasons, the Pioneer Bowl in 1976-77, etc..
-
Congrats to Mr. Buning. He sounds like a very good hire for UND. Being an "outsider", he should be able to bring some new perspective into the department, which could be helpful with UND looking at DI.

Prior to 1973, there were two divsions, the University Division and the College Division. Most of the College Division became members of DII (and DI-AA when formed) and DIII. The NCAA Divisions I, II, and III were created in 1973. With the creation of the Divisions, a playoff system was then utilized to crown the national champion in Divisions II and III, as opposed to the poll system and regional College Division Bowl games (although the playoff championship game was sometimes a bowl game, such as the Palm Bowl in McAllen, TX) The subclassifications DI-A and DI-AA were created in 1978. Prior to 1973, there were two divsions, the University Division and the College Division. Most of the College Division became members of DII (and DI-AA when formed) and DIII. Here's a nice site with the scores from all the College Division Bowl games and other minor bowl games- College Division/Minor Bowl Games

Why would have the NDSU area voted differently? They had no horse in this dog and pony show. The largest areas of yes votes came from the very south end of Fargo, where most of the overzealous hockey parents live.
-
Arena proposal is resoundingly defeated by a vote of 71% against it.
-
I'm sincere about it because it's the truth. I-AA is the highest level of football competition in which the NCAA recognizes a national champion. I never stated that it's the highest level of competition of football sponsorsed by the NCAA. The NCAA seems to agree-SOURCE I agree with whoever used the Varsity, JV, Soph. analogy earlier.
-
I think it was the top 5 DII and top 5 DIII teams that ESPN added to their ticker this year. AFAIK, all of I-AA scores are on the ESPN ticker. I know I saw all of NDSU's games. There was talk of ESPN possibly adding the top 25 DII and DIII scores this year.
-
The only DI football national championship recognized by the NCAA is DI-AA.
-
Better inform the NCAA. They cover DI-AA football in the NCAA Division I Manual.

I heard a snippet on KFGO-AM today that KVLY was airing a story on the news tonight about how the city of Fargo is hiring consultants to study what sports are growing, and what sort of facilities are projected to be needed. Looks like if HS hockey in Fargo needs a new facilty (which it does), it might be solved via a different route than a downtown arena.
-
I stand corrected. Thanks for that handy link. That's a nice condensed version of the divsion requirements as opposed to looking them up in the division manuals.
