  1. Well Jim - congrats. Good series with just the wrong outcome. Good luck to your Caps next round.
  2. Not sure this is worth anything other than being an interesting observation. In the East, 3 of the 4 series are going to Game 7. The oddball series was PITT/PHI and even that went 6 games. In the West, the series went: LA over VAN 4-1 STL over SJ 4-1 PHO over CHI 4-2 NASH over DET 4-1
  3. Don't forget about the commissioner!
  4. Why thank you! Yeah, it's always a crapshoot picking, and this year's playoffs have been as entertaining and unpredictable as ever. - I thought the NYR would roll through OTT - I was very disappointed when WASH moved into 6th place and were matched up against the Bruins because I figured BOS would easily beat OTT - apparently I was wrong! I'm actually hoping for an OTT upset over the NYR. - Once I saw BOS got WASH, I was initially worried because even though WASH had a bad year, they can get hot at any time. Then I saw that their #1 and #2 goalies were hurt so they'd be starting their #3, I figured that'd be an easier road to the 2nd round. Again, was I ever wrong! - In the #3 (FLA and PHO) vs. the #6 (NJD and CHI) series, I was never a believer in either FLA or PHO. Looks like I could be wrong with both of these...I see a trend forming here. - I don't have much to say about the PHI/PITT series. I think I'm still in disbelief with how that all went down. Not necessarily that PHI won, but how it happened. - That leaves me with the STL/SJ, NASH/DET and LA/VAN series, which I ended up being right about.
  5. Agreed. Shaw from Chicago got 3 games for what I thought was even a marginal penalty when he bumped into Phoenix's goalie, Mike Smith, behind the net. Smith flipped and flopped on the ice and miraculously continued to play the rest of the game. If Torres doesn't get 3-4 games for that hit and sending Hossa off on a stretcher, I just don't know what to say.
  6. Nice post. The more I read this thread and comments on this subject the more I'm seeing that most people think this is a great idea and will benefit Sioux hockey, etc. I think everyone should take a step back and think about this, because this will hurt HS hockey in North Dakota. The Sioux don't need this program to survive - they'll recruit top players from all over with or without this program. To say the Sioux need a midget hockey team located in Grand Forks to recruit players is laughable. Karl's response may have been well written, but let's not forget that he works for the Hockey Academy and is there to make money for the Hockey Academy. Just because he's an ex-Fighting Sioux goaltender (and one of the best to come through the program) doesn't mean we all have to swallow what he's selling here. I hope that people can take a step back and think about this and not just agree with it because Karl Goehring, ex-Sioux goalie, and the Ralph's Hockey Academy says it's a good thing.
  7. Sioux jersey sighting...in Washington...hmm...isn't that where you're located Jim?!
  8. But the answer to your question is the Medicine Hat Tigers, where his dad also played.
  9. That reminded me of the Lucic/Miller incident where nobody from Buffalo had the stones to challenge Lucic. Then when Gaustad did the next game Lucic completely manhandled him. Granted, Weber didn't manhandle Bertuzzi, but if he hadn't held on and try to take Weber down by the leg, Weber could have damaged him.
  10. I'll give it a shot. 1st Round winners: East #1 NYR over #8 OTT in 6 #2 BOS over #7 WASH in 5 #6 NJ over #3 FLA in 6 #4 PITT over #5 PHI in 7 West #2 STL over #7 SJ in 6 #6 CHI over #3 PHO in 6 #4 NASH over #5 DET in 7 and my bold prediction - #8 LA over #1 VAN in 7
  11. Each round is re-seeded so the highest seeded team plays the lowest seeded team remaining.
  12. Although the Caps had a down year compared to expectations, I still think I'd rather have the Bruins play Ottawa in the 1st round. The Caps could come alive at any moment and with the talent they have could be dangerous. That being said, I don't mind this at all. Capitals call up Dany Sabourin I'll take the Bruins in 5.
  13. Kvalevog was nowhere near 6'1". I'd give him 5'10" - maybe 5'11".
  14. That's kind of funny to read right there. "After what they've put the NCAA through" - referring to what UND has put the NCAA through?!!! Whatever, man.
  15. BC was just playing UMASS on the NBC Sports Network (Versus) in the Hockey East quarterfinals - there must be technical difficulties because it's not on now. But I was watching and there was literally NOBODY in the stands watching. The game was at BC - it's actually embarrassing to see how few people were there. I'd guess just as many show up for a cross-town bantam rivalry in GF or Fargo.
  16. I found this: Student Athlete Planning Services Can I try out for teams in major junior and still be eligible to compete in the NCAA? Before enrollment in a NCAA university, an athlete can: Try out for any length of time with a professional or major junior hockey team at your own expense. Receive one expense paid tryout with a professional or major junior team as long as it does not exceed 48 hours. (Note: You can only receive 1 expenses paid tryout from each team.) Note that during a tryout, an individual loses NCAA athletic eligibility if he takes part in any outside competition as a representative of that major junior team (games, scrimmages, 3-on-3 tournaments, etc.). Can I play games in Major Junior without impacting my NCAA eligibility? The NCAA considers major junior hockey to be professional hockey. Therefore, student-athletes who compete in Major Junior jeopardize some or all of their NCAA athletic eligibility because they fail to remain "amateurs" as per NCAA regulations. Student-athletes will lose all athletic eligibility to compete in NCAA Division I hockey if they: Compete in any major junior game after their expected date of high school graduation. Sign a contract (OHL Player Agreement) with a major junior team. Student athletes will lose some athletic eligibility to compete in NCAA Division I hockey if they compete in any major junior game before their expected date of high school graduation, without signing a contract, or attend a major junior training camp for more than 48 hours while having their expenses covered by the major junior team.
  17. Mike Commodore was just traded to TB for a conditional 7th round pick.
  18. The Gophers would have to get by Mich. St. first.
  19. Friday - Corban Knight Saturday - Brock Nelson
  20. Looks like James Patrick is going to coach his first game in the NHL! Sabres' Lindy Ruff day to day
  21. Your first problem is that you'd want an autograph from Alex Burrows.
