Bob, Typically the Alumni Association will have a gathering place on Friday and possibly on Saturday. Hoggsbreath is a combo bar/grill. More bar than grill.
-
Mr. & Mrs. Siouxman will be there again. No Keikla this year tho as she is down in AZSioux territory.
-
A true hockey fan goes to all of the games.

It worked fine for us, but last year a Gopher fan that we know was horrified that we were in there. He said he got shot in there about 11 years ago. But, if its during daylight hours it is probably still fine. Let's do it.

Hey MafiaMan - A few of us are wondering about doing the Saturday morning brunch thing again at the Final Five. Are you game? If so, would it be Hoggsbreath again or something else? Time to start planning.

Nanne continued his brilliance last night in the Hill-Murray vs Lakeville South game. Hill-Murray was ahead in shots 16-8 and on the scoreboard 2-0, and Nanne says "Hill-Murray has doubled up Lakeville in everything!" And he specifically referenced the shots and 2-0 score. Excuuuuuse me. Double of 0 is still zero. Obviously math isn't necessary in some parts of MN, or maybe it just doesn't soak into some people. Obviously not required to pretend you are a hockey announcer.

Here is the link to the Star Tribune version of the story. http://www.startribune.com/nation/16181027.html

From one veteran to another: Well deserved Woody! Your acts of heroism are awe-inspiring. It is a shame that it took this long for your outstanding service to be recognized in this manner. It would have been much more meaningful to have been awarded during your lifetime. You have certainly brought honor and respect to your family. Well done and thank you for your service.

The One and Only Oshie please!
-
You mean that psudo-team does that too?
-
Until he signs on the line, nothing is 100%.

Last time I checked he was only a junior. Realistically he is probably ready for the NHL, but who knows? If it doesn't happen this year, he may decide to do it again just for our benefit.

On any given night anyone can beat anyone. But if the Sioux come ready to play and play their game I don't think that there is anyone in the WCHA, except CC, that can skate with them unless their goalie has a great night.

I think it is laughable that everyone thinks this team is so physical. They may outphysical many teams, but this team is a shadow of the Mean Greene machine three years ago that went to the east regional and beat up BU and BC. That was a physical team. Plain and simple, Oshie is an animal out there (in a good sense) with his hustle and tenacity. There isn't a team in the WCHA that can handle it. I don't know if I can recall Oshie coming out on the short end of a check, no matter which side threw it. Now you throw in a few other guys who play hard and physical, with skill and tenacity, and the other teams get frustrated. Things get started and escalate. But lets be clear about this. This team is smaller than the one three years ago and doesn't come close to clearing out the front of the net like Greene, Smaby, Jones, Chorney, et al did. This issue is plain and simple that other teams cannot match up to the Sioux when the Sioux play their game cleanly, and thus it degrades as the other team needs to resort to other means to be able to compete. Yes, there are Sioux players at times who have taken things too far initially and been the cause. Early in the season Radke was a prime example. But many many times it is the other team that starts it, the refs don't call it, and eventually someone has to take "corrective" action. I just wish the WCHA and everyone else that is beefing about the Sioux would take time to see the games in their entirety and see what is taking place that is leading up to these "incidents."

Let's debate this without name calling or labeling please, no matter what we think. Reasons not to jump to the CHA: 1. We are not Miami wannabees with a cupcake schedule 2. The CHA has been unstable for some time and UND joining it will not make it stable. 3. The NCAA could easily pull the CHA auto bid 4. None of the CHA teams are natural or historic rivals - sorry, but BSU is not a natural rival (yet) 5. The WCHA is the PREMIER college hockey league 6. No guarantee CHA refs are better. What if by some miracle the WCHA cleans house and the current WCHA refs jump to the CHA? 7. Loss of historic rivalries such as MN, WI, Denver, CC, etc. 8. Who is going to fill the Ralph to watch the likes of the other CHA teams. 9. Ralph Engelstad would roll over in his grave. 10. Alumni donations and season ticket sales would drop. Reasons to jump to the CHA: 1. . . . . . . ? Can't think of any. Guess which way I vote!

For one thing, Duncan took a pounding in the last minute of Friday nights game when he took the puck into the wall in the Denver zone and kept it away from three or four of their players. He went down on his knees and was being viciously cross-checked while Marco "Freeman" Hunt stood there and watched. I would be very surprised if he wasn't black and blue and very sore on Saturday night.

One on five and he scores?? That is just insane.

Funny Moment #2 - In the post game wrap up on 96.1, they were talking about the weekend that Kozek had. And they topped it off by saying it would be a complete weekend if he had a girl to take home tonight. After a brief silence it was: "You know, to buy her breakfast or something!" Right - we are all that gullible.

http://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/2008/02/16_reaney.php Another college player has jumped ship and signed a pro contract. Les Reaney signed, jumping ship from Niagara which is on a 7 game unbeaten streak. Not a good trend we are seeing this year.

I believe that Martens has stepped up his game for several weeks now. He has been making a noticeable impact. One of several players who have begun to step up so that the Sioux are on a streak. It is fun to watch these guys come on.

I am surprised that no one has posted some of the stuff that went on in the game. Early in the first period, after a whistle, a Sioux player was skating to the bench for a change. I believe that is was Malone and a Pioneer came up behind and game him a slash across the back of the calf that dropped him to the ice. No call. In the third, Mannino slashed a Sioux player as he went past the side of the net to go behind the net. He did not go through the crease or close to the crease. Hunt was right there and didn't call it. Whereas I thought Friday nights game was fairly clean, Saturday night Denver was taking some liberties with the stick and was getting away with it. Overall I thought it was a dominating performance by the Sioux. They made Denver look like a lower level team for most of the game.

? Maybe you need to fine tune your cougar skills a little, and I thought it was a wine truck??

DU is not the same team without Trotter. The player that gave us fits last time was Bozak as he was all over the place. Without having Trotter to worry about they can put someone on Bozak (calling Prpich!!) to hound and harass him all night. While DU looked pretty good last night against the Gophers, the Gophers were a team without spark or energy. As soon as they got down, they had the look of defeat on their faces. As Woog stated, it appears that Wheeler has hit the wall and is tired and Barribal is out with an ankle sprain. While DU played decently, they were not playing a good team. The Sioux have control of their own destiny. They simply need to take care of Denver this coming weekend and then the rest of their WCHA schedule. Take care of Denver and they have a solid chance at #2. If CC stumbles again, they might have an outside chance at #1 in the conference. This is a great position to be in, compared to the last two seasons at this time.

Back in the early cougar days??

I see a link here: Feb 2 - Dave Hakstol fingers the ref during the UND/MN Hockey Game. Feb 4 - Dave Hakstol is suspended for two games. Feb 4 - Bobby Knight announces his resignation from Texas Tech after pondering the UND situation all day on Feb 3. Now - fast forward to the Denver series: Feb 15 - Bobby Knight makes guest bench appearance as temporary coach on UND's bench Feb 16 - Bobby Knight suspended from the WCHA indefinitely for : a) grabbing a player by the face mask while he chews him out b) throwing a locker room chair across the ice to get the refs attention c) verbally abusing Forum pseudo-columnist McFooley d) berating the ref for allowing the Gwoz to make inappropriate squatting motions on the dasher e) sending out the whole UND bench to do a "Prpich" on the Denver team f) all of the above Feb 17 - Dave Hakstol is reinstated to his full coaching responsibilities and all is happy in Siouxland again.
