Whodda thunk it? 3 games into the season and our leading Hobey Baker candidate is the goalie!
  3. Technically, it is a pseudo or sudo football team.
  4. The truth is that it isn't the Bison method either. They brought in outside help that had done it before and followed their advice. Nothing wrong with that, but the credit for their successful transition is only that the Bison followed good advice.
  5. I believe that it was Hakstol saying that it was about 80 degrees on the ice. Our skaters have some work to do. Way too many stupid passes across the middle intercepted by BC. That is what cost us the past couple of times we played them and we had players doing it again. Lammy was just outstanding, rock solid on some great scoring chances for BC. I think BC has found themselves a good goalie in Muse, although it looked like we shot it into him a few times. It was interesting that BC had the upper hand the first half of each period and then it appeared that the Sioux took control the last half of each period. Maybe conditioning? I was looking forward to the third period with the thought that maybe the Sioux were better conditioned than BC, but we will never know now. As for the hit on Watkins, that was blatant checking from behind. After the BS call against RPI last weekend and the call on Oshie, to have this be a non-call on CFB shows that this is still very inconsistent. Sioux should have had a 5 minute major, although 2 minutes offset by Kaip. The refs flat out blew that situation. It looked like TJ got dinged up a little for a while. Here's hoping he is ok and that Malone will be back quickly.
  6. What a goal!!! Absolutely incredible. Congratulations Chicago, you have a jewel.
  7. I saw BC play Michigan on Friday and was not impressed. They did not play as a team, just as a few good individuals with others along for the ride. They were lucky to still be in the game in the third period. I did not see them against RPI on Saturday, but they only scored on special teams (3-PP and 1-SH). So, let's stay out of the penalty box. If the Sioux and BC are at the same stage of development right now from a season perspective, the Sioux will be real scary by the end of the year. I expect Gerbe to give us some trouble, so no shutout. But I can see something in the range of 4-1 or 5-2 Sioux unless they let down from the MSU game. Saturday against NU I think that NU will stick with the Sioux for just over a period and then the flood gates will start to crack. 3-0 Sioux after 2 and possibly 6 or 7-1 at the end. I hope.
  8. Did you mean "pump" because I see Frattin pumping in some goals. I see Trupp as being a cross between Prpich and Duncan, some of each. Overall I am very impressed with this class of freshman, the ones that played against MSU. Manitoba didn't really give much indication, but MSU did. Yes, it is only one game but the indications are really positive. More positive than I might have expected. Jury is still out on Marto and Davidson as they just haven't played yet. The discouraging part is that the jury is still out on Forney. If it doesn't happen soon it might be next year before he gets a good shot with these freshmen. I expect them to improve and be solid contributors.
  9. IIRC Buning was talked to about the items that needed to be corrected. Hence his letter, which became public, pointing out where he felt progress had been made on those items. So yes, he was notified of shortcomings and obviously given some specifics. As former military, I am guessing that Buning likely had trouble adjusting from the military position of authority, where decisions are automatically responded to and carried out under threat of military law (courtmartial for failure to obey a command) to a civilian role where such absolute authority rarely exists. Some officers make the transition well and some do not. Whatever the situation we are not going to ever know the entire story as these personnel issues are covered by federal law. Even if the employee chooses to make things public we will never know whether those are the truth or not because the employer cannot make things public. At this point it sounds as if Buning is going to carry this out for some time, claiming some leave rights under federal law which can cover anything from maternity leave to other family medical situations or health issues). Standby for updates later.
  10. Radke's lack of discipline and untimely penalties need to be corrected or he may find himself playing less and less as the season goes on. The team can use his physical presence, but not if he continues to cross the line. He could have simply positioned himself to screen the MSU player from the play.
  11. Here is an MSU article: http://www.greenandwhite.com/apps/pbcs.dll...0140740/1023/GW
  12. 1. LaPoint played and overall I think he did fine for a freshman and a first real game. I believe that with a few more games under his belt he will be just fine. 2. I think coming into the Manitoba game as the extra forward caught Kozek's attention. He was very evident and his goal was a wrist rocket. It seemed to come out of nowhere and was by Lerg before he could react. 3. I thought the call could have been made boarding, but can't disagree with the CFB. It was more of a penalty than the BS call against RPI on Friday night in the Twin Cities. 4. Michigan State controlled a lot of the play in the first and second periods. The Sioux had difficulty getting the puck out of the zone and deep into the Michigan State zone. But starting late in the second the tide began to turn and the Sioux dominated the third period. As soon as MSU tried to push on offense the Sioux put them back on their heels. You can say Lerg did not have a good game, but the Sioux shooters were sniping. Oshie's goal was a beaut, Duncan's was lucky, Vande Velde may have gotten a good bounce off the glass but he cleanly picked the puck out of mid-air and knocked it home, Frattin's goal was a beaut and very quick, Kozek's goal was quick, and he probably didn't see Genoway's. Also, I am very impressed with this freshman group. They are right in the thick of things and not overwhelmed at all. Frattin fits in well with Oshie and Duncan, Trupp could be a Duncan knockoff by the end-of-the-year with his hustle and grit, Malone is physical and skilled, and LaPoint is going to be fine. As for the goalie J-P (formerly known as Lammy, Phil, Phyllis, etc) I thought he looked in absolute control, very confident, and never struggled with the puck, simply solid. There was really only one scramble in front of the net the entire game but that was because he controlled the rebounds and the defense cleaned things out. I was really concerned how this team would react without Oshie, and it was a non-factor. This team has the potential to be something special. As for Kaip, we are seeing a totally different player out there. He is going to be a machine this year. My assessment for this year is: Side notes: What the hell is up with the WCHA website? They have an article on SCSU ties Canisius and other meaningless games and nothing on the HOF game? It appears that the Gophers have lost Ryan Stoa for a while with a knee injury. MRI is scheduled for Monday.
  13. I think it is very consistent. Herb Brooks told him that the best place to go to develop his hockey talent was UND, and that is what he did. He was here for the hockey, not for school. That doesn't mean he didn't enjoy his time at UND, only that his priority was hockey.
  14. Danke Schoen
  15. Vee haf had no kontac mit him. Is that better?
  16. RPI got hosed with that call. I don't ever want to hear again that the Gophers don't get homer calls in the Twin Cities. That was plain bull. A very poor endorsement for the two ref system.
  17. Michigan looked blazing fast in the second period and their transition game had BC on their heels for a long time. Looked like MI ran out of gas in the third period and slowed down to BC speed. Neither goaltender looked very good. Michigan had good team play, and BC had some good individual play but BC as a team did not look very good. They have a lot of improving to do. For 7 freshmen, MI looked better.
  18. 5 min. major and nothing happened?? Or is it an automatic 5 min. if you are the extra man in?

I'm definitely in, but it has yet to start. It is too early for a scorecard.

Let me get this straight - Grieco actually faced the grand total of 3 shots on Sunday night and he is already deemed better than anyone else on his angles and rebounds?? From my perspective I saw three goalies that did not look sharp. Neither Greico nor Walski handled the puck very cleanly or crisply or with confidence. And at least one of the two gave up a horrible rebound that should have been a goal. Let's face it - Sunday night was nothing more than a meaningless exhibition game exactly one day after full team practices were allowed. The Sioux are neither as bad as the three goals they gave up, nor as good as the nine goals they scored. Let's not go overboard here. Man, last year I think we got to the end of October before people started falling off the bandwagon and under the wheels. The real season hasn't even started and here we go again. Give it a little rest. Its a long season and everyone will have more opportunities to jump off a cliff later on.
  22. A really poor turnout. It shouldn't take time for people to jump on board as we've had a few of these in recent years and had 20-30 people or more. This one was the absolute worst turnout (4). We had many more people a couple of years ago in March when it was a lot colder. To all of you who weren't there, you missed out on grilled pheasant wrapped in bacon, BBQ ribs, and brats, plus munchies.
  23. If you are handling a stick with your nose, you are on the wrong end of a play. Those are not even comparable. You don't need a nose to handle the puck.
  24. Michigan Tech trip now questionable for us due to work commitment. We will try to make it, but may have to cancel. Bummer.
  25. The exhibition game is generally only about 3/4 full. You should be able to walk right up and purchase tickets at the window. Better yet, you should be able to make a deal out front from someone selling. We picked one up last fall for $5.
