She would have to be the youngest coach in NCAA history I would think? 23 or 24 years old. Hopefully she gets the job, gets the program to the highest level and sticks around to continue that. Although, you would think if she does a good job she will get offers from larger schools.
-
She seems very young to coach a team. Great girl though. Would be great for her to get the job. She very well could be working on her masters right now.
-
He doesn't have his masters? That's pretty surprising, but maybe he started before they started the rule. Or maybe it was something to do with him coaching baseball. What is the rule with coaching and teaching?
-
Question: Don't you have to have a masters to be a head coach at UND? I'm pretty sure you do, and not sure if Jen does or not. She would be either 23 or 24 so she would have had to get it last year probably.

I can't see Phil going out of his way to get a game up here. He kind of forgot where he was from. I'm not a fan of a guy who can't make it back to his home town when they dedicate their gym to him. He's big-time now! Oh, and there is no way that the NBA would have a Miami-L.A. game in G.F., that is, if the NBA is playing next year. I hope the collective bargaining agreement gets taken care of so my Spurs can go after their 4th in 8 years!

Actually a new book store is going up in between Dagwoods and MiniMart. No one has brought up that discussion either. What a great thing it is to bring in another book store finally. It is outrageous what Barnes and Noble was charging/returning off those books. At least this way it's no monopoly. Still will be bad though I'm sure.

I love when people do this, then say they are not at liberty to share anything. If you know everything then why come on here? Why not share some of what you know rather then putting others down? I'm an ESPNInsider and I'll spill the beans at any time. That's what people do these days, they share information. Without it ENRON would still be running sufficiently!

Cool little slide show of her from Star Trib. Slide show

Actually his words were, "Most of what I will be able to accomplish here has been accomplished." I'ld say that leaves the door open to keep him around for another year and fullfill his contract while the University pursues a successor. I think this would be the smartest move, not going through the buy out and interim process, and having a president ready to step in at the conclusion of Kupchella's contract. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. It's not like he holds something against the school and will do something to hurt it if he sticks around. He was just looking to move to a new job closer to family.
-
probably cuz there aren't any Michigan girls that weigh less then the fulback he runs behind
-
The more I think about it the more I think he should stay throughout his contract. It is going to take a while to find a new President so why not keep him here to fullfill his duty. I truly don't believe that he is just going to sit in his office on Careerbuilder.com like some of us do all day. He will continue to do what he thinks is right for the University, otherwise it will look bad for him in his future pursuits of other jobs. Plus, why spend the 150,000 to buy his contract out just to move someone into an interim position? Let's keep Kupchella through the next year, find a quality new President, and part ways with mutual respect. I also think that the nickname issue will come up, but it will be short and quick as the new President will have no power over the situation. That needs to be brought up with the Board of Higher Ed and they aren't changing very quickly!
-
I would be really surprised if they didn't run it tomorrow. Sometimes they just don't realize how important stuff like this is.
-
This seems like a pretty huge deal. I'm surprised it's not getting more attention. Am I too excited about this? Is there something I'm not seeing here? Anyone have any more knowledge on it?

Looks like "Devils" is offending somebody too.
ESPNInsider replied to ScottM's topic in UND Nickname
The thing with Devil's Lake is that the "Satan" name actually portrayed most of the athletes parents in a GOOD light. Some of those folks were off their rocker! All kidding aside, I think it was a good move to change the D.L. name. Same with the GFC name. Nowdays, the kids coming through don't even remember or know the name Redskins. -
I think there is a pretty simple solution to this: If we really do run short we will all have to do our part and buy a couple of the HUGE bottles of water they have at the G stations. We will take buses 15 miles south of GF and empty the bottles into the river, it will be perfect!

Just found another article on USAToday: Article here Pretty much same old, same old. Thought someone might want to read it though.

Interesting article in the Star Tribune today. ESPN cut off negotiations with the NHL, saying that the NHL's tv deal isn't worth half of the $60 million original agreement. "It would have been the first time NHL games were shown exclusively on ESPN2, which doubled ratings by showing college basketball in place of hockey." "The NHL, which says its clubs lost about $500 million during the past two seasons, also has agreements in Canada with the Sports Network cable channel and the Canadian Broadcasting Company. The prices of those contracts haven't been disclosed." And I thought our Athletic Dept. was losing money!
-
So what was he talking about yesterday?
-
I thought that was actually a pretty good article. It wasn't like Yellowbird's constant whining and most of the other articles which come across as being hate-filled.
-
Yeah, but Callahan also played half back in High School. How funny is that!

Speculating now, I guess it can work the other way for you (applicants) too, as was shown with the Purpur raise after he threw his hat in the ring. If you're good enough let it be know that you are wanted somewhere else and get more money where you are at. But look at the Buning situation. They kept that under wraps per his request so he didn't have any consequences if he didn't get the job.
