In Bismarck you've got to compete with football (All teams in AAA playoffs), wrestling (BHS dynasty for years), Basketball (Century and BHS very good teams of the past). Good friends in Bismarck and they all say the same thing about the push to get these kids at young age. Easy to watch the Century boys basketball team have loads of success and want to be a part of that, much like the banners that hang in Purper and Eagles Arena in Grand Forks. I think @sioux rube can point out the fact that one Carson Wentz was a pretty good Century athlete that was pulled away from hockey as he was a good football and baseball player, and ended up winning a state championship in basketball with the Century boys because Mattern saw him in the weight room and figured he'd see if he could get another quality athlete on his basketball squad.
