From these two quotes, I can’t imagine it was a high priority, for Schiller or any of the other portal entries.

So Bubba can’t coach or recruit from the portal…or was that your point?

No. No tough questions were asked and there was very little defiance toward what they said. Just a bunch of head nodding, to be honest. I’m sure some good questions were submitted online but Paul Ralston must’ve “run out of time” to ask them. -

Let’s say the planets align and UND gets to host a playoff game this fall. I can’t make it due to prior obligations. Should I just eat that money and be happy about it? I could try to sell my tickets, but I’m pretty sure last year there were 3-4000 seats available for the playoff game last year, so selling those tickets is like selling ice to an Eskimo. So I’m just out the money because UND thinks it should be my obligation or because some old folks don’t understand how the internet works and don’t renew their tickets on time? How about when we choose to renew our season tickets, there’s a check box next to the playoff game tickets, and those who are able to be there proceed, while those of us who can’t, uncheck the box? it isn't about the $20, it’s about the principle. -

The price hike explanation centered around a couple different things…one, that “people buy tailgating spots to park because it’s cheaper” (which I’d love to see the specific data they based this off of, as someone alluded to earlier), and two, to more or less weed out those who are taking up tailgating spots who aren’t the hardcore fans, the ones who won’t show up every game, the ones who show up last minute because the season tailgating spots are “sold out”. The demand is at an all time high, they say…I’m pretty sure the Al parking lot is huge and outside of the NDSU game, it is not full. There is room to expand season tailgating passes if the demand is really that high. It’s all BS. It has 100% to do with bringing in more money and they're going to say anything they can to be right. Erik Martinson and Val Sussex were neck and neck the worst when it came to that. The Alston awards, while I believe is a good thing, will cost a lot of money. I wondered where that money was going to come from. Well, part of it is from the expansion of the Champions Club seating at the Alerus. People who had season tickets but were outside of the CC sections will now have to pay the Club fee for every 4 tickets purchased. Val Sussex said there was a need for more “premium” seating at the Alerus, so they made an additional section premium by adding the Champions Club fee. That’s it. That’s what made those seats “premium”. It’s all political banter as they try not to look like the bad guys. They made the Peterson Porch ticketed spots because there was a need for more “premium” seating, Val said. Yep, you can’t just have fans casually watching the games from the end zones…you have to make those Champions Club spots that people pay more money for. This isn’t about the fan experience anymore, this is strictly about money, but they can’t come out and say that, and they never will. They’ll say college athletics costs more these days and the cost will continue to rise, but when things like tailgating passes nearly double, it has nothing to do with raising more money. It has everything to do with the fan experience…right. -
Interesting how the 1883 Collective is announced, specifically mentioning the fact they’ve been working with UND on this process, people get excited about it and the future of UND athletics and keeping up with the Jones’s, and then magically, this is slipped under our nose. Coincidence? I hardly think so.

Thanks for posting this!

Yep. Those FGs weren’t even a question for him. They were routine.

Yep. It’s an option to sign up for as a subscriber to the Herald.

This was from his weekly “Hawk Talk” email he sends out.

No idea. Just saw him at practice…watched a handful of different coaches greet him…at one point saw him venture onto the field and hang near the RBs…Tom Miller mentioned he was a possible Hoosman replacement. That’s all I know.

I was at practice Friday morning. It was good to see some football again! Nice to see Skokna out there making plays. I’m hoping he can stay healthy. I’ve missed his shifty style. Isaiah Smith looked like he was shot out of a cannon at times. Couple nice breaks and the burners were on. I like the idea of Red Wilson at RB, but if Skokna is back and they can land the bowling ball of a RB transfer they had at practice, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him back at WR. The transfer recruit looked stacked. Was good to see Tom Dosch out there running around. He didn’t go unnoticed, and not in a bad or distracting way. I really like that addition to the staff. The DBs had a good day with some nice takeaways. A couple straight up picks and one that was ripped away from the WR. Devin Hembry had a nice day with at least one pick. Seemed to be in good position a number of times. Quincy looked the part, so far, at TE. I hope he gets worked into a number of different plays. His versatility could be huge if used the right way. Tommy had a zip and direction on the ball the other QBs simply didn’t. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mentioned how Colton Hackel looked. Moved well, threw some nice passes. Good to see that from the guy 5th on the depth chart. That’s all for now!

I didn’t watch the game but based on their 2nd quarter points, SDSU kept their foot on the gas. That’s been a frustration point for me with UND football. They get up a score or two and then simply try to burn out the clock. I want to see some nails in coffins early rather than at the very end of a game. Too many times teams have crawled back into a game because we lack that killer instinct. This game isn’t about giving the opponent a second chance.

I agree. You used to be able to hear how he finished the sentence. Now I hear about the first word and the rest is covered by people cheering/screaming/clapping. I prefer how he did it in the good old days.

I’ve thought that for years. They recruit in waves instead of balance. I don’t understand the mentality.

I haven’t found a schedule anywhere but messaged Tom Miller and he said they’re on this week M-Th, off Friday, back Saturday. 8:45-10:30

I agree that more needs to be done with the Spring Game, Spring Wrap-Up, whatever you want to call it. Shoot, UND needs to advertise for spring practices in general! It shouldn't take me tweeting Bubba to find out what time practice starts. However, I wonder how many of the Big 10 and MVFC teams that hold spring events own their gameday facility? UND certainly doesn't and I'd imagine it'd be a pretty penny to rent it out. I'm not saying there shouldn't be some money found to do so, but at the same time, why not use the Pollard Center that UND already owns and make it a big event there? You can tailgate in the parking lot to the north...I did plenty of times back in the 90's. Put the money you save by not renting out the Alerus and make the Pollard Center the place to be. I think that'd be a good middle ground. Until we're out of this budget crisis UND and every other school in the state has found itself in, it would be hard to justify paying money and hosting the event at the Alerus when you have a UND owned facility on campus that has yet to be packed. Just my two cents.

I think Kuksa was hurt at Portland St. We lost a handful of players to pretty significant injuries against them over the years. Taj Rich was another I believe.

I have to argue with you on this one. He knows as much about football as anyone in the arena. However, when your playing time is as limited as the band’s is, you take advantage of every opportunity you can. The Pride has had their playing time diminished over the years at both the Ralph and Alerus. If they choose not to play while UND has the ball, they won’t be playing much at all. This is an Alerus Center issue, not the marching band’s deal. I agree that it should be quiet when we’re on offense. No doubt. Stupid loud canned music being pumped in is about as frustrating as it gets. I’m a former Pride drum major and the only times I kicked off the band when the Sioux had the ball was after a 1st down and when a TO was called. Unfortunately they don’t have those kinds of liberties anymore because of all the commercials/events/promotions/recognitions/etc. Add this to the already growing list of issues at the Alerus.

I think you have Romfo confused for Feeney. Feeney is clearly taller than both Tommy and Romfo.

Wired Bean. Neat new place that also carries Sandy’s donuts.

I saw that a couple weeks ago. Couldn't be more excited!

They’ve been doing drive thru covid testing in the Alerus, so my guess is that after the game those floor panels go right back down. I cant imagine they’ll be there next fall.
-
I’d be VERY surprised if there wasn’t a green jersey.

That’s what I initially thought too...but check out his own follow up tweet. Alex puts things in perspective.
