I think this should be how it is for a few years for sure. How about the cursive North Dakota on the front, I believe the women's team has those. We will not have an official nickname, but everyone will still yell Sioux! This is the way to go.
-
This astounds me! If WDAY is right...WOW. Is this printed anywhere that you are aware of?
-
If the two issues were the same, basketball would have been eliminated from UND Athletics yesterday by the Hated State Eight. I agree, don't blame basketball.
-
How is he a tool? Everything he said is true. Please tell us what points are not true? It is refreshing that somebody actually is telling it like it is!
-
Excellent post. The "State Eight" will be villified for decades. This group, along with President Kelly, perhaps Brian Faison, will be forever remembered in a negative light by the majority of people, American Indians included.
-
Lets not forget, John Jackson, a UND faculty member in the Anatomy department, also did not do anything.
-
Please remember, the majority of American Indians wanted the name to stay. If you are mad, direct it towards the State Board of Higher Education, and the Standing Rock Tribal council members who voted against having a vote.
-
The worst thing about this: 1-Eight people on the SBoHE are making this decision with their action. 2-Eight people on the Standing Rock council are making this decision with their inaction Both groups are ignoring the vast majority in this decision. These are sad days for our country, indeed.

Great job on the graphic design side...but logos and names like this seem to belong in the minor leagues for a AA team in baseball, or a ECHL hockey team.

April 6th, 2010 - Standing Rock Council Decision
Let'sGoHawks! replied to star2city's topic in UND Nickname
I couldn't believe that when I was reading the paper this morning. The GF Herald editorial is...GULP. 100% Correct! -
Will McGill play as a true freshman? Anyone else?
-
I find it funny that SOME UMN fans believe this would be a slam dunk.
-
Perhaps Blaiser actually LIKES the city of Omaha, and the situation at UNO. He will be back in the WCHA, in a 16,000 seat arena. Sounds like Trev Alberts is running a nice program down there.
-
Yeah, I remember discussing this awhile ago, and several people said they would attend this, but never received info about when and where it was. I think it gets publicized fairly well on campus, but not in the community.
-
For those who may be interested in attending, maybe this deserves its own thread, mods decide: Dear colleagues: Our campus will soon host Time Out Week and Wacipi (Pow Wow) activities, which will be held from April 12 through April 17. These celebrations of Native American cultural traditions have been an enriching part of the UND experience for more than four decades because of the hard work of students in the UND Indian Association and the Indian Studies Association. I encourage you to participate in as many of the activities during that week as your schedule permits. The listing of Time Out Week activities on American Indian culture can be found at http://www.und.edu/dept/indian/timeout2010.pdf The week of ceremonies, lectures, and readings begins at 11:00 am on Monday, April 12, and continues through Friday afternoon. The Wacipi schedule for Friday and Saturday, April 16 and 17, is available at http://www.und.edu/org/undia/Powwow2010.8.5.11.pdf The opportunity for our students to learn more about and become engaged with Native American cultures is one of the highlights of our academic year. Please encourage your students to take advantage of this opportunity. If any of the presentations or activities are relevant to the subject matter that you are teaching this semester, it would be particularly helpful to point out to students how they relate to what they are studying with you. Our university offers the ability for all of us to gain a better understanding of the American Indian cultures and peoples of our state and region. Your cooperation in promoting campus community attendance at these culturally rich events will help to make the upcoming 40th Anniversary Time Out Week events a success. Thank you for that cooperation. Sincerely, Paul LeBel, Interim Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs

Yep, I don't care how they win it. Just get 'er done.

This is absolutely not an attempt at an excuse...but: how hard is it for teams like UND to play in the NCAA regionals in front of crowds of 1,000-7,000 people, when they are used to rabid followings at home at the Ralph (11,500), and at the WCHA Final Five (13,000-19,000) Is this a factor? I'm not sure. I am always upset by the atmosphere, or lack thereof, at NCAA regionals, and even the Frozen Four. Again, absolutely not looking for excuses here, but what are your thoughts on this variable?

I used to live in the area, the Bloomington Sensers was great when I visited. It was like I was "back home". I loved it.
-
Ben's North Dakota career was mentioned last night, Rich Glas even got a mention as his former University of North Dakota coach. Was also mentioned he coached at Concordia currently. Nice publicity for our state. (and Concordia)

LETS GO SIOUX!!!!! Don't let these waterbugs get past you!
-
That CHAD Malone guy is a great player.
-
Thank you for bringing facts to the table on this one...I wish they could find a way to get this done, but would settle for a PP clock to start!
-
Bahahahahahah, so you have Lucia calling out Frank for stating the obvious! Wow, that machine is more broken than I thought! I now officially feel sorry for Frank, and dislike Lucia even more than before! DON LUCIFER strikes again!
-
Saw 2 Sioux jerseys on the replay standing up when RIT scored. I would assume those are the 2 guys from this board that were talking about going.
-
1-0 RIT DU NOT looking good so far.
