Sure, the UND football team won't be eligible for the post season until 2012. Everything from now until then is a series of building blocks. In other words, if these next few years aren't successful on the field, it will make it that much harder to qualify for the playoffs in 2012. What I'm saying is, that if you have a kid who can perform now and help the team (Miller), you play him. His contributions will make the team better, which could lead to more wins, which could make the program stronger, and more attractive to potential recruits who will come in and play in 2012 and beyond, when we are playoff eligible. The same thing goes for "fans". I put that in quotations, because, if you are a true fan, you attend these games in the non playoff eligible years. If you turn a deaf ear to the program until the "games mean something", you are hurting this program. The games mean something THIS YEAR. I'm sick of hearing about the old NCC, that was great back in the day, and I grew up watching that league. Times have changed, NCC and Division II football are small time. FCS isn't the big time, but it is a hell of a lot better than playing Dickinson State, Crookston, Mankato and Duluth. If fan apathy continues this year, it will only set the program back in 2012 and beyond. In summary: Go to the damn games this year, to help the program. (hey, you might even have some fun)

One thing we can all agree on: It was SOME A-hole at NDSU preventing the rivalry from starting up again. I am very excited to see the two schools playing each other in several sports now. Football is next! Go Sioux! F the Bison! That felt great, and was laying dormant in me for awhile now!

It certainly could be management, I just think GF is a pretty small market, (97,190) compared even to Fargo (200,102) to be looking for big concerts. Whatever concerts we get here, I feel lucky due to the size of the market. That said, if we can't get concerts, (for whatever reason), there must be attempts made by Venuworks to get other money making events to the Alerus.

Not sure about the detox thing, as I have never seen any UND fans THAT drunk in Mankato, but yep, we have a fun time down there. Couple of reasons: 1-We almost always see a Sioux win or two 2-Hotels and bars are right by the arena, so it gives people the green light to drink more because they know all they have to do is stumble back to their hotel room 3-We are away from home, the wives, the job, etc, so it is like a middle age "hockey spring break"! Gotta let loose!

Wow! I just took a look at the Idaho page, how sad is it that 1 or 2 bison "fans" write crap like that? There is something seriously wrong with those guys. Thanks to the couple of UND fans that took the time to register, and post rebuttals. Back to the game, since it is on Altitude, which I don't get since I'm not a dish person, any chance it gets picked up by the FSSN?

Need $$$ for a stadium expansion plan before even thinking of FBS. I would love it if we made the move up.
-
With no series at Mariucci this year, all of you Twin Cities area alums should make the trip to Mankato instead. The series is Dec 10 and 11 this year, and is always a fun time due to all the UND fans, the usual win both nights by UND, and the close proximity of bars and restaurants to the arena. We usually stay in a hotel within walking distance of the arena, but there are other cheaper ones across town.

Man, the college season is long enough, not sure I'd want the Sioux to do this. Tech has nothing to lose though.
-
"Mr F" would be seen just like Ralph Engelstad with a donation that would fund a retractable roof stadium. Seriously, how cool would that be?! Talk about standing out in the college football world, FBS or FCS.
-
In regards to concerts. The whole industry is hurting right now, tours are being shut down, etc. There is a reason that we aren't getting shows here, in addition to the fact we are a very small market. I am not sure how one could blame the Alerus for this.
-
On a positive note, the Alerus Center looks much better on the outside, and I've heard they have replaced the horrible carpet on the inside in the convention area. So, even if it is sitting empty, at least it looks nicer doing so.
-
Agreed, this will help greatly! Thanks to the people responsible for this. It really adds to the excitement for the upcoming season!
-
That is awesome you are taking the lead and setting this up. I won't be there, but: Thanks, from this Sioux fan.

Lamar, eh? Any Revenge of the Nerds fans here? Speaking of nerds, this goes to show that athletics ARE important to student numbers, as Lamar lost 2000 students when football was dropped. You always hear professors(some may call them nerds) talking about how athletics have no place on campus, and it doesn't matter if your athletic teams are visible/good/etc. It goes without saying, Academics are extremely important to the U of North Dakota, but athletics play a large role in a University's national perception, and they do draw students to your institution.

Read this response to the Wodon article, Tweeted by Roman Augustovitz, the gopher hockey writer for the Star Tribune, OUCH!: Adam Wodon, managing editor and columnist for College Hockey News, has a column and a Q and A with Don Lucia. Basically he defends the Don and says problems at U are same other teams have. Really? Wonder how many Gophers games Wodon saw last season? Did he see U have to rally in third period to beat Bowling Green? Did he see U get shut out at home twice by Denver? Did he see Gophers not show up for first playoff game against North Dakota? Did he know The Don locked team out of their locker room for a week & sked morning practices to motiviate team? Players leaving early obviously hurt U, but coaches still have to get those left to play hard all the time. Gophs underachieved last season

Trust me, we will DESTROY them this go round. If they are playing by NCAA rules, instead of NAIA non-rules. And we have a few more years of FCS recruits in place, it won't be close.
-
Oh, I agree for sure.

The swimming folks knew about it...

I find myself caring less and less about the gopher program as the past few years have gone by...but, you have to admit, it is pretty fun watching that debacle from a distance. There is a very good chance that the former "Pride on Ice" will finish in the bottom of the WCHA this year once again.
-
Well, if that is how you were treated by the U of MN, we all have yet ANOTHER reason to hate them. Here is a big "FU" to them from me.
-
Yes, welcome to the academic side of UND, and welcome to the sports fan side of UND! As everyone has said, thank you for serving our country. Great photo by MD, thanks for that.

You guys and your facts! How is MPLS supposed to try and make points when you ruin things with actual facts!
