  1. Or, ask Flickertail alumni or Fighting Aggies alumni. Wait there all dead?
  2. This should be a good year to bet on the Hawks' in all their FB games, They should be on a upswing. Good Luck!
  3. We might legally be able to bet on UND football games in ND and MN.
  4. You think we are a keeper.
  5. So like our small group discussed this afternoon, if UND had owned The Ralph outright right after it's completion (without any strings beginning in Oct 2001), hockey would have had less money spent on it and more spent on other sports, but at the end of each year the funds would of been consumed, and The Betty addition would of probably not been built. Anyone know when The Betty bond is paid off? What is the annual payment? Building The Betty changed the cash flow to the AD, this in turn costs UND money annually to balance the AD budget, while generous spending continues on MH. Does this sound like UND is actually partially paying to have The Betty built in a round about way? President Kennedy seems to have legit concerns over the AD when UND has to cover any shortage, especially in these financial trying times. But, there is this binding agreement with The Raplh. He gets the credit for trying and sooner or later may find something somewhere? Ms. McGarry is carrying out her dad's wishes along with the agreement to build The Betty. She mentioned that previous presidents have tried to change some things, and it's like she is not in favor of that. She gets my respect for staying to the agreement. We seriously need FB and MBB & WBB to bring in more $. UND's near future in general is under extremely financial pressures, and if the AD is short of funds and therefore consuming part of UND's general fund, President Kennedy will have no choice but to make additional cuts. What would get cut first, FCOA to the athletes? We have come a long way since being the Flickertails! Let's keep moving forward!
  6. There is a bond on The Betty. Who presently owns The Betty less the land, was it added into the 2030 year ending deal with The Ralph?
  7. These Past/Present Sioux fans sure know how to shoot the arrow!
  8. Sad ending to the Big Sky in softball for us. C U at the Summit!
  9. So did the ND state legislature in the late 1990's about building of The Ralph. They eventually acted with changes to let this happen on ND land, although maybe not knowing all the details and how they would play out. Anyone remember the new hockey arena story in it's early stages, if I remember correctly: Engelstad donating 100M$; building a 60M$ rink and giving 40M$ to UND. Tom Clifford, Earl Strinden, Ralph Engelstad, and etc (Arena Building Committee) going around the country visiting hockey rinks and getting ideas. Building a 15,000 seat rink in GF, later downsized to under 12,000 by concerns from many on the committe. Legislature saying WAIT we don't want the responsibility of keeping this potential gas guzzling machine running, hence the not full ownership for 30 years. Ben Brien Logo. President Kupchella warming up to Sioux protesters, Dear Chuck call, construction temporarily halted. Building plans change, now the whole 100M$ going into The Ralph, Sioux logos going in all over. Everything top shelf. Ralph spent $104M to get her done. Thank you Ralph and Betty Engelstad and daughter Ms. McGarry.
  10. My take thus far is there is a respectable group on the boards of these three. Seems like moving along to the 30 year time table, supporting UND athletics along the way, but hockey is going to get everything it needs first to stay as a top NCAA program, then the residual to the AD. Stirring the pot may not be beneficial in the long run. Football is never going to get the Engelstad hockey type of support from GF City or the State of ND. WBB and MBB have the same challenges as do the other sports at UND. Outside sources of the State of ND, GF City, and UND are needed to bring the other sports to the level of UND hockey or NDSU football. The reason I bring GF City in is because the City of Fargo gave NDSU a pretty sweet deal for their Dome. Example, to get UND FB near the top in Div I FCS, we need to fund the program at a higher level. That would be through a big private donation, or a large group of private donations along with continued support from the fans. Spend the money on the coaches and facilities. Increase in fan support should follow. Of course all funds spent must be done wisely.
  11. Kmart was there before any of the mall was built, even had a grocery store. Seemed like they owned their own space.
  12. Talk about softening the blow for a healthy raise. Go Berry!
  13. B4 I left for the weekend, some taught we had two entities. Now looks like we have a three-some. Respectable gang here, maybe we should keep our noses out of this one? Again, seems like president Kennedy took a puff from president Kupchella's old peace pipe and then replied to the GF Herald, Kris McGarry seems content, all is good in Hockey Town. Till someone stirs the pot again?
  14. Thx, will make the adjustments. UND faculty and employees get a discount on season tickets. Any idea on how many of these?
  15. Doesn't the Ralph pay the city for the Alerus rent?
  16. President Kennedy must of had a long long night last night. Probably realizing that this is his last presidency (no U will hire a Pres that upsets their U's #1 family) and decided to stay for the long haul. Today he gave the GF Herald a class act response and Kris smiled soon thereafter. All is good in Hockey Town!
  17. Now read slowly. Kris Engelstad McGarry came to GF this past weekend to play 4 hand bridge with the boys. Coach Berry said thank you! Is AD Bill Chaves dizzy yet? - been awfully quiet, maybe wondering does this U even need him? Sounds like President Kennedy wasn't the lead dog on this Berry raise, and negotiations didn't go so smooth, hence the GF Herald sales skyrocketed? A schooling in the rules of The Ralph with a true beat down thrown in.
  18. 2017-18 school year * after confirmed attendance #s. Sport Students Avg Atten $/Seat #Games Season$ FB 2,200 10,462* $25 5 1M$ MB 1,500 $10 15 .22M$ WBB 1,500 $10 15 .22M$ VB MH 3,000 11,408 * $45 19 7.2M$ Do the $ from ticket sales go to R E Arena, Inc. or to the Engelstad Foundation? Does the 52% of ticket $ stay with The Ralph or go to the Engelstad Foundation? Is there some advantage/reason to have ticket sales $ not go directly to the AD? But, later have $48% go to AD, then, later have some of the $52% spent on U athletics in some way, but at the same time have the potential to send $ to other entities outside of UND (like a tool for obedience)? The main reason that I can think of at this point for The Ralph management setup, is have some outside forces dictate where the retained funds go? Protect Hockey for the long haul.
  19. But, it'll be so much fun, after struggling through last season's fiasco!
  20. Thank you for that report. This thread is going to become educational to most of us.
  21. (men's hockey, football, men's and women's basketball and volleyball). RE Arena Inc. retains 52 percent of such ticket revenue and remits 48 percent to UND. RE Arena Inc. retains 64 percent of such sponsorship revenue, net of direct costs and remits 36 percent to the UND net of direct costs." The NDUS report states that in fiscal year 2017, gross tickets sales were $4.6 million—meaning RE Arena Inc. took a $2.4 million share and UND was awarded $2.2 million. In terms of advertising (also labeled sponsorship in the document), RE Arena Inc. made $769,000 and paid out $432,000 to UND Where's the rest of the money. Where does food and beer sales go? I'm going to take a shot at the $. This will take some time and estimates and fine tune as go along. Any help much appreciated. If FB had over 2,000 students ave and the Hawks Nest had over 10,000 avg attendance, then 8,000 seats sold. Times $25 seat = $200,000 x 5 games = 1M$, also remember $400,000 or whatever from FBS Utah game, which I'm not adding in. MBB about 1500 seats WBB?? VB ?? If Hockey had over 3,000 students and The Ralph had over 11,000 avg attendance, then 8,000 seats sold. Times $45 seat $360,000 x 18 games not counting playoffs = 6.5M$. No counting what students pay for their tickets. This seems more like 8M$ in ticket sales where the reports from Dub's post and SBoHE show 4.6M$ Please tell me I'm doing something wrong here? Anyone know the # of seats in the student section at The Ralph? CC money is not being used in these numbers, face value ticket price is.
  22. NDSU alumni told me a couple years ago that they get 100% of the gate for FB, no rent paid back. Maybe city gets the concessions. Don't know that this is fact. Wasn't this way in the beginning, but still in NDSU's favor.
  23. There's the big ? And it's partly in my list. Is money from the Ralph going into this Foundation or are the Engelstads reloading it? Is there another entity that runs the building?
  24. These are questoins we should find the answers to and maybe add some more. As supporters of UND, season ticket holders, alumni, employees, concered citizens, and etc. wouldn't it be good to understand how The Ralph relationship works???? I am an alumni, supporter, and season ticket holder in MH & FB, am concerned, and would like to know. They raise season ticket prices and where does that money go? My understanding from the beginning was UND owned the land and always will. Ralph Engelstad Arena Inc. or something close owns the improvements on the land till 2030 when UND will get them. Evidentally, there is another entity in place a Engelstad Foundation. There is a board of directors, are they only to the Ralph Engelsated Arena, Inc.???? Who is in charge of the Engelstad Foundation? Where does the CC $ go? Where does all the ticket money go? Concessions and so on ? 50/50 raffle, who has the gaming license, maybe alumni office? How does the Engelstad Foundation get it's money and who decides where it goes, some GF Herald ink on UNLV got more than UND? Is this all money orginated from The Ralph?
  25. Did not know that the land is for sale? as in your first post. Then your picture video fit "Don't know what you got, till it's gone" Why should UND sell the land when it is adjacent to UND? So much future potential.
