You just can never concede an argument can you? You wanted examples and two were given. You can't argue with that. You can't argue with they were both "good" football teams that year, as they both made the IAA playoffs. Whether or not a team has scholarships does not indicate how "good" they are. Maybe it shows the credibility of the teams in IAA playoff football. Back to the original point that you questioned. There has been D2 teams that have not only competed but beaten IAA playoff teams.

You could make subjective arguments for how "good" a team is all day.

What? I was giving an example of "competing" not "beating" like RD17 said.

Last year, Texas State (whom lost to U of Northern Iowa in the semis in OT) only beat Delta State 32 to 25 and had to score late to beat them. You probably want more examples now. Shouldn't you know more about this because your team is IAA?

My opinion is that having no nickname will be a bad thing for the university (if we get rid of Sioux).

You seem to know all, so which one was it? The fact is there was no way UND was going to end up on U of Minnesotas schedule because a DIA team playing a D2 team doesn't count towards the BCS. It would have essentially been an exhibition game for them....facts.

By writing: Your intent could have been "yes the WCHA won haha BC." OR "haha Sioux Fans Wisconsin won." I think gf_siouxfan thought/thinks the latter.

When I was in Columbus, OH for the Frozen Four I was pretty amazed at the amount of community support they had for OSU. At the local McDonalds they had a giant "O" build into the ceiling painted red. In Grand Forks, support is definately not lacking. WalMart has (might be removed now with the construction of superwalmart) a giant old geometry Sioux logo painted on the wall above the concession area. The Gateway Drive BurgerKing, Italian Moon, Suite 49, are all plastered with Sioux Heritage. The laudrymat attached to the motel across the street from the RiverCities Speedway is called something like "Siouxper Laundry." (someone can correct me) What sign of support have you noticed for UND in GF or otherwise? Is this greater or less than other colleges you may be familiar with?

What's worse: Having a local HS with the same name (of which most people wouldn't even know about), or playing a collegiate sports game against a team with the exact same name as you. MTU Huskies vs SCSU Huskies or UMD Bulldogs vs Ferris State Bulldogs? Even though UND can be considered an "aviation" school by some, I don't think it's a fitting nickname as a whole. I think it should be some sort of human figure to keep with the "Sioux." If not roughriders, I like (Super) Troopers (PCM's idea) or Fighting Calvary. Call it poetic justice.

We could speculate all we want, but I don't think any of us are the President of the University of North Dakota.

Also if Montreal can be the Canadiens (or the NY Yankees), I think the University of North Dakota can be the Americans. Canadiens has a "weird logo" that doesn't really represent "them," UND could use the same logo (the current indian head). Afterall Native Americans are also Americans. It's perfect. (We'd essentially be dropping the Native from UND "native americans.") In another strange twist the Canadiens minor league affiliate is the IceDogs. (People had ealier thrown out the idea of the SunDogs as a possible replacement name).

The state of Minnesota nickname is The Gopher State. The state of Nebraskas nickname is the Cornhusker State. The state of Wisconsins nickname is the Badger State. The state of Michigans nicknames are The Wolverine State, The Great Lakes State. The state of Iowas nicknames are The Hawkeye State, The Tall Corn State. The state of North Dakotas nicknames are Peace Garden State, Roughrider State, Flickertail State I see a trend that I would like to see continue.

We need someone (maybe some presidents of some universities) to get the ball rolling.

Let's not forget the original arguement. The trend is that the NCAA is catching the MJs. Maybe in 20 years the NCAA will equal or pass MJ's in many aspects and that worries Canadians.

Any way to impeach the President, Myles Brand? Without a court case, I'm thinking maybe a new president will have completely different views than Myles, and reverse this decision?

Old news. April 6th, from the guy who calls the Big Sky ever other day Steve Hallstrom: Summary: The Sky is thinking of adding two ND schools and 1 SD school. Bison Media Blog and basically this "new info" was rumor spreading by getting offers by "very reliable sources."

I wish there was a fact based page that showed time frames, links to actual stories, of stuff like this, because it seems to always come up. Now that UND is playing UNI, I for see a lot of (bison) fans on the site saying "why not us"?

I agree with everything you said. Now is the time to change the name with eventual divisional changes. To me its not worth the fight anymore. UND will most likely lose in court and then what? It's not worth it to me. Here's what I said 2 years ago...looks to be coming true. From this discussion.

What happens when UND sues them and losses? UND would essentially be suing an ogranization they voluntarily want to belong to that has said you play by our rules or you can leave or be forced out. Yeah I know there could be slander etc, my guess would be the judge would side with the NCAA. I'm sure the NCAA knew what they were getting into when they started it all.

I think UND will now be off the list!!!
