Minnesota @ UND Saturday GameDay Thread

What'd I learn this weekend: play to the abilities and UND is a real contender for a nice season play slow and predictably and you'll get run out of the barn- 327 replies

One more ... if just one of the two wide open blasts from JPerr* (off beautiful cross crease passes) had hit on Saturday ... *Jayden, you're on 192% adrenaline compared to practice; dumb as this sounds, get the shot off as fast but think more aim less 'gusto', your body has the 'gusto' covered compared to practice.- 327 replies

Tommy can throw the 30+ pass. The offense is not designed for it. Why? Is it pass blocking, general philosophy, no 'create gap' WRs, but "arm" isn't the biggest concern in that list.
-
I recall a key pass, Tommy to a former 'yote, in the NDSU game, on a dime, over 30 yards.

The only acceptable purple cow: https://www.travelsouthdakota.com/waubay/food-drink/ice-creamcandydessert/purple-cow-ice-cream-parlor Jorgenson's Meats is right there also ... the double smoked bacon is "pork crack". And another 10 miles down the road is the home of Buzz and Prince Johnson, UND hockey players in first days of the program. https://www.hockeyarchives.info/register/JohnsonBuzz.htm https://www.hockeyarchives.info/register/JohnsonPrince.htm

Minnesota @ UND Saturday GameDay Thread

Thoughts: Close was the player of the weekend (credit where credit due) ... < joke here about the wife and kids and a minivan > Persson was right behind Losing Pehrson Friday and Zmolek Saturday ... let's hope they're more 'hurt' than 'injured'. This team needs to play "fast and north" all the time I'm glad they stayed "fast and north" and didn't go "shell" with five to play on Saturday Mistaking 7 for 77? Give Huglen not Pitlick? I blame the bench as much as the refs. Show some integrity. (That should maybe be a bench minor.)- 327 replies

That needed repeating.

And frankly, that comes down to leadership, starting at the top. As I said in the season thread, I think Bubba is either (a) afraid to show up a friend's team on the road, or (b) fears the road and it comes out. Last 25 home: 23-2 Last 25 road: 6-19
-
Dude has baggage (that he was completely cleared on) but he just wins. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Todd_Hoffner
-
Give any reason you'd like, but the one that is indefensible is Bubba's teams being so bad on the road. 23-2 Home 6-19 Road Jekyll and Hyde There's 50 games, 5 seasons, roster turnover. What's consistent through the time period.
-
18-37 under Bubba 6-19 last 25 Gino Gasparini used to preach "win at home; split on the road". 23-2 (last 25 home) is "win at home". The other part, not so much. Split the road would be 27-28 (or 12-13 last 25). A just 27-28 road mark (vs 18-37) would be about one more win for each of Bubba's ten seasons.
-
UND is like 23-2 in last 25 at the Alerus. So what does that make Bubba’s career road record. I think Bubba is afraid to win on the road and make another coach look bad in front of their crowd. Like I said, all the work against NDSU means nothing if you don’t follow it up. Well… Not having the team ready is on the coaches, starting at the top.

Do we know Chesley's issue, the thing that's sore? Asking for a friend. If it's a knee or ankle I'd hate for him to have to continually turn that direction.
-
Did Koster or Chesley make the trip? What's UND's health status; any surprises?
-
HC is the best call of my life. I told @PCM almost as soon as the bracket came out. I based it on two years earlier HC's Fr/So giving UND a run; they were now Jr/Sr. The intermission before OT I went to the concourse outside the press box (he was writing for USCHO at time) and when he asked if I was sticking with the call, I said nothing and only gave him the sly smirk and side eye.
-
That exception has become less the exception. I think a lot of top seeds wrap it up early and cruise control to the NCAAs; the fours are fighting the whole way so already have it "turned on".
-
To steal from Hennessy, this is a suvive the onslaught of the first ten minutes. Get the game to settle in, roll four, and introduce their D to the end walls.
-
I see too much traffic in this thread and not enough worry about UNI. I hope the team is not this way.
-
I would be disappointed in REA if they played that.
