I will forever remember Ryan and Dan for their last ever college shift: - one stuck his stick into a passing lane (by reaching and not moving his feet) hoping to break up a pass that never happened - the other dogged it back down the ice and was of no consequence in the play (but had a great view to see the rebound buried) Thank you Tyler MacGregor. Back to our regularly scheduled thread: Grieco has to play enough in 2007-08 so he's ready to be the top guy in fall of 2008. As good as Eidsness may be he'll still be a freshman. If Eidsness can take the top job from a well-prepared guy all the better.

Methinks someone meant to post that in the "Lamoureux / Grieco" thread.

A plague has beset upon Fargo, and it's spread to the Fargo School Board. Legal notice of meeting not offered And folks on this board aren't the only who've noticed. [url=http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm?id=165192§ion=Opinion]Will state

Don't me wrong, I like the notion, but you know some would blast it as wholly disrespectful to (the Sioux and their feather ceremonies?, eagles?, Wakantonka?, the block ND logo?).

How are the weather conditions down there? I worry that hot, humid southern weather will take its toll on our northern team after a day or two. We're not used to it in May (like we are in August).

A league of their own? ....

Something "more benign"? You mean something everyone can agree on? Heck, SDSU can't agree on a picture of a bunny-wabbit for a new logo! Can it get more benign (or inane)? As a wise man once said, And if this is so much the possibility, why hasn't this been happening since the 1970s (or before)? And finally, "on an issue so peripheral" ... indeed. If this is so peripheral why is it an issue at all. The noted scholar may have just put one through the hull of his own intellectual battleship.

Dear Mr. Marks (and GF Herald): " ... allowing to retain ... "? UND can keep the "Fighting Sioux" moniker if it so chooses. It would just be that the NCAA would discriminate against them at national competitions (and tell its members to discriminate against UND by not scheduling regular season contests). And the NCAA would continue to discriminate against Engelstad Arena because of a picture hung on the walls there. (Ya'know, playing that "discrimination" card is a blast. )

So you did get that new Kevlar-lined jacket for Christmas ....

But Coach Dan Haktoff is Canadian and he lives by it ....

Then I'm glad I didn't write "15%".

UND (based on what I've read) tries to get 4% annual, spendable return on endowments. Returns above that are put back in to the endowment to grow the principle amount. For example: $4 million. If you get 4% you'll have $160 thousand to spend annually. But what you really want is a higher return, for example 6% (I'd like 12% but why be that greedy in an example). That'd get you the 4% for the annual operations and the other 2% ($80k) to put back into the kitty ($4.080 million to start at next year).
-
And the answer is .... $20 million. Thank you, Mrs. Engelstad. And all of your family.

The press conference for this is starting right about .... now.

Would that be the same guy who works for the UND Alumni Association? Interesting ...

And now I lost my lunch.

Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't, but he'd still eat your lunch.

Bemidji State hopes to raise $2.5 million by May 2008 to have funds available to allow their program to survive. That's the annual hockey budget in Minneapolis or Madison or Grand Forks or Denver. There's problem #1. The WCHA is already playing an unbalanced "rivals" schedule. That's with 10 teams. How do you make an 11 team league work out for travel and schedule? That's problem #2. Would it be great for BSU? Sure. But as much as we'd all love the "feel good" storybook ending you have to look at things logically, not emotionally, if you want to make sure they'll work for the long haul. The WCHA and BSU aren't a fit for each other right now. But read the articles. The conversations are not over, they're just on hold for now.

This number you're talking about ($750 MM, not UND's $500 MM endowment number) includes on-campus construction, does it not? There's no "give up on on-campus construction" in that; by your definition ($750 MM) it's included (stadiums). UND did $400 MM in the preceding 10 years with one or two small targetted campaigns (for example, $20 MM for College of Bus and Pub Admin). Now they are going "full active" to raise money from any and all sources. I trust you can see the difference. Finally, the time value of money: UND did $400 MM over the preceding 10 years. What's $400 MM "worth" 10 years later? Assuming 4% return, roughly $600 MM. Put another way, talking about $600 MM today would have been like talking about $400 MM in 1997 (and there was no active campaign in 1997).

Where's The Betty?

The Alerus Center will gladly leave hosting indoor water skiing to the Fargodome given that Fargodome has the experience having previously been filled with 8, and then 12, feet of water. (Historic footnote: GF had planned on a below grade floor in The Al but Fargodome's flooding adventures, and the notion that putting The Al at grade could have it serve as a shelter or staging area during potential future flooding events, kept the field out of a hole.)
-
Well, if you don't believe that's possible at UND over the course of 10 years, how ever did this happen? And "not trying to be a jerk here", but that "is in addition to what people are already giving in scholarships, athletic tickets, athletic gifts, facility repairs, ... "
-
Did you say TRIOUXPER should be committed?
-
Why ruin the convention center aspect just for hoop. The Al holds 9000 in BB config already. (So many folks forget that about half of the west grandstand is mobile.)
