You expected less from the NCAA Executive Committee, a group of exclusively university presidents? Read this excerpt from "The Shadow University". You'll understand (not like you don't already). (More excerpts here.) Sound familiar, or exactly like Myles "the NCAA is a catalyst for social change" Brand? What's most noteworthy to me in this is that Dr. Charles E. Kupchella is standing up for true liberty. PS - Before folks start ripping on the book as conservative clap-trap, it'd be good to note one of the co-authors is a Massachusetts ACLU attorney!

That's on a bumpersticker in Brookings this week.

Real or "sudo"?
-
NDSU is being hurt because of their strength of schedule so far. (None of their opponents to date is over 0.500.)
-
Believe it or not, NDSU's toughest games are ahead. Up to this point, no one 'SU has played has a better than 0.500 record! http://www.mratings.com/team.php?tm=300675

An October/Halloween nightmare for all ..... beware to all those who read on .... Our hero, Buffy of the Hinterlands, dared to enter the mason

Saturday really didn't surprise me all that much. Massey had NDSU at 74 and Minnesota at 77 (in all of college football) going into the game (ratings on Oct 17). What surprised me was NDSU's inability to execute the kill-shot and how much the Gophers looked like a team that has quit on their coach.

NCAA serious about I-A attendance requirements?
The Sicatoka replied to jimdahl's topic in NCAA News
The NCAA has watered down the "15000 average attendance" rule for play in DI-A football. From the 2006-07 NCAA Division I manual: The MAC drove for that "or paid" change. Why? Six of the schools Jim lists are MAC schools! (E Mich, Kent, Buffalo, Akron, Ball St, Bowling Green) But how can you not make 15000 under those rules for "paid" attendance? All you have to do is "sell" the ticket at 1/3 of face and you don't even have to have someone use it ("regardless of whether they are used for admission"). Create a "three-for-one" promotion for your season ticket holders and pump up the "paid" numbers. NDSU is doing 2-for-1s which pumps up the "paid" number. Those MAC schools, or even UND, could do the same. PS - 20.9.7.2: "The (DI-A) institution shall schedule and play at least five regular season home games against Division I-A opponents." Given this, the BCS DI-As need lower tier DI-As to fill out their home schedules. -
UND's Rylan Kaip came from the Notre Dame Hounds. Chandy Kaip has been named the first women's ice hockey coach at Adrian College. She also came from the Notre Dame Hounds program. Relatives?

Back on October 6, written by everyone's favorite USCHO reporter: Well, it's 13 days later. So, where (what?) is the story? Motions? Responses? Dates? Hell-l-l-l-l-loooooooo? Grand Forks Herald? ....

Like I've said before, I'm hoping you guys win every game that you play for the rest of 2006.

Do you feel better about a home loss to UND after this? Is that what the therapist prescribed?

What do Clemson and Auburn have to do with this?

"Neutral Site Solution" to NCAA Nickname Ban?
The Sicatoka replied to fightingsioux4life's topic in Football
Turf that doesn't say "Sioux" or "Fighting Sioux" in an endzone? -
One more note: Isn't Wisconsin, "model university", with a won't play Indian monikers non-conference policy, playing FSU (non-conference) in hoop this year. Hypocrits?

Just wait until your neighbor figures out you've hacked into his home's wireless network.

Why "resent (UND's) position"? Because UND has a domed football field and The Ralph? Because UND dared challenge a decree from an NCAA committee that had no power to make such a decree? Because UND held firm when it was obvious to even casual observers that UND wasn't getting the same treatment at FSU, CMU, and Utah? UND didn't start the matter. Let's go to the source: The NCAA Executive Committee. There's where you look for the start of "wasting NCAA resources." Spirit Lake Resolution A05-01-041. That's "nearest namesake tribe" support. It was all CMU needed. UND is working to ensure that NCAA schools maintain the "institutional control" that NCAA Principle 2.1 expressly states. If your question about, "A lot of college presidents are going to resent ..." is appropriate then isn't the question, "Aren't '(a) lot of college presidents are going to resent' an assault on the principle of institutional control" just as appropriate? Having a proven history of standing up for retaining institutional control will win favor with many university presidents (because we know they like their power and don't cede any away gently). Frankly, would you want to be in a conference with presidents that respect the principle of institutional control or a conference full of presidents who want rule by NCAA executive fiat (e.g. Roy Saigo)?

I had one of these once come to the door. Once I realized what I was up against I asked if I could go back in the house and get what I'd been working on and keep at it on the front step while I listened to their pitch. They agreed. For some reason the fellow's pitch was shorter than I expected. They left before I could even finish what I brought out to work on. But I just stayed on the front step and finished cleaning the .44 calibre out there anyway.

Naw, just use the summons.

After this weekend, Craig Bohl will be the Gophers coach.
-
A fact someone just tossed in front of me: The 2-5 Gophers need to win 4 of their remaining 5 to be bowl eligible (6 wins) and 1 of the 5 remaining is at Ohio State. Minnesota is in a "must win" Saturday if they want any shot at a bowl game. With the pressure on Minnesota, expect an NDSU win.

Phil was ordained at the #1 guy this year about 0.02 milliseconds after Parise signed. What more could a guy recruited as a #1 goalie want? It's his job now until he gives it away.
