#25 USD falls at home. http://www.fightingsioux.com/ViewArticle.d...;ATCLID=1405873 OK, I'm a little shocked. A round of applause!

Imagine a hockey-football-hockey (Fri-Sat-Sat) weekend in Madison .... *ouch* Oooh, my achin' head .... I think I just got a sympathetic hang-over.

Go to your link, page 2/3, and there highlighted as "1." is a statement about playing schools not on the list. The settlement removed us from the NCAA's list for the time being.
-
They did run with a short roster this year. Spots on the roster may not be the issue. Playing time however ....

Rensselaer (aka RPI) got $350 million for general use (not tied just to athletics) back in 2001.
-
So they won't be in the arena but will be broadcasting the game. Interesting. This opportunity may serve to prove my long held theory .... It matters not where they are: Frank and Doug have never seen a Gopher penalty committed. :D

Here's how.

The settlement was the perfect political solution for the ND SBHE and the NCAA. Both get to say, "It's not us, it's the Tribes' decision. That's the power they wanted anyway." The Board and NCAA get the perfect scapegoat: Ron His Horse Is Thunder. And thus explaineth why RHHIT was so upset: He got what he said was his all along, but when he got it he realized it came with a very high (political and otherwise) price. Put another way, RHHIT and his ilk have had a long run of jamming up UND. Well, he got jammed up even harder.
-
The ND SBHE took control of the issue in December 2000 when it decreed UND is the "Fighting Sioux". Nothing really changed since then until ..... Joel Maturi, AD at Minnesota, said effectively "no football for you" early in fall of 2007. Shortly thereafter UND FB alumnus Bruce Smith's application for the presidency (dated October 2007) says "If that middle ground is not obtainable then we need to work with those same groups to honorably and respectfully retire the logo and nickname and move on." The settlement compact then comes in November. I doubt all of that is strictly coincidence.
-
Ron His Horse Is Thunder finishes what George Armstrong Custer could not: total erasure of the Sioux. Sweet irony.
-
Did you just pick UND over SIU? Thanks!

You crack a "joke" like that in most American workplaces and you risk your job. It's called "workplace sexual harassment" and only the lawyers benefit from it. Before I've said, "Would you say it to the person's face" is a good posting criteria. I'm wondering if, "Just because you can say it, and could say it, should you" wouldn't be better.

Folks, that play could not have been reversed in a WCHA or NCAA game. Replay is only for goals and the crease area. If anything it re-enforces my belief that the on-ice referee should be "wired" to another official in the press box who watches "the bigger picture" (like this) and for the "behind the play" stuff. And that's for HS, college, and NHL.

(insert pro or con comment about Brett Hull's skate in the crease here)

Well duh. Look what sweeping UM-Duluth would do for the playoff seeding hopes of .... Minnesota. You really think he's interested in anything else?

You bet there are two sides to this. Folks who want to keep the name have thought through the impacts, effects, and outcomes. You hear questions like "new moniker", "who's paying the costs", "what will the long-term impact be", "how will this affect various UND programs", and "what will tribal relations be like afterwards". Now, can you tell me the same has been done from the other side? I'd argue no. They're playing the end game as being a different name and logo on a jersey. If they believe that's their end game they're sadly mistaken. Rightly or wrongly, this decision by the tribes will affect how Native Peoples will be received everywhere in the state, not just at UND, but in Bismarck at the Legislature. Imagine a national news story of how Standing Rock would not have open dialog with the State of North Dakota. Or imagine one about how Standing Rock Tribal Council would not let their own Native People's voices be heard via a democratic vote. Either of those will do far more damage to American Indians than any fan in a jersey cheering for (or against) a team called "Sioux". Americans still do like open dialog and a sense of democracy. Show them otherwise and you do damage to who you (say you) are. A "no" outcome resulting from a free and open dialog amongst and from the Native Peoples will be amenable to many folks (me included) who are "fatigued" or "worn down" of the issue. But if the tribes give even the remotest perception of a lack of representation of the will of their People, if the tribal governments act more like dictators over the People than their ambassadors and envoys, if it's only about the will and ego of a select few on a tribal council, how can anyone anywhere expect to work in good faith any Native Government in the future. You bet there are two sides, and the sides are neighbors. We're learning how our neighbors operate both inside and outside their house. We're watching. And it's not just a logo or name we're watching. I treat my neighbors as they treat me and others. They'll show me how to behave. I'll gladly oblige.

TJ probably won't win the Hobey (for reasons 'mikejm' details in the first post of the thread). Plus, many voters will just look at numbers and Kevin Porter has the inside track on that one. Toss in Duncan winning it for UND last year and it's (sadly) done. So, TJ will just have to work to take a different prize ... Stuff in the lobby is nice; but banners in the arena are fun too.
-
Here's the question: To NDSU's Athletics bottom line is an NDSU broadcast sales (making money), or marketing (spending money)? I sure hope they pull better numbers than Bohl's show.

Alternatively, did he realize he had about zero chance at being a finalist for this position and cut his losses by withdrawing?
