  1. I think the amount of moniker fatigue out there is underestimated. I've been shocked in hearing it from some people I pegged to be more "Fetch" than "82". Add in the Forum starting to tally the costs in "$$$" and it should be interesting.
  2. I took you at your word when you originally (pre-edit) said ...
  3. I'm too lazy to totally scrub this list, but congratulations to the mens (and womens) hockey players graduating this weekend: Benjamin Blood (BSRTS) Jocelyne Lamoureux (BSPXW, Magna Cum Laude) Mario Lamoureux (BBA) Pierre-Paul Lamoureux (BBA) <-- yeah, he didn't skate for UND but he's working for Hakstol Bradley Eidsness (MBA) Evan Trupp (BGS) <-- nice job Trupper! To those I may have missed I offer my sincere apologies and no snub intended.
  4. Not quite. The aluminum shafts from Christian didn't have a name on them. The blade inserts had names on them.
  5. "Uh huh. Uh huh. Okay. Um, can you repeat the part of the stuff where you said all about the...things? Uh... the things?" --Homer Simpson
  6. Settlement Agreement, Section 2, subsection a, last two sentences: Read those sentences. It's not UND or the State that put those in. That's the NCAA, pure and simple. In poker, those sentences are pure "tells". The NCAA's end game is no namesake exemptions. This move by Florida State is no accident.
  7. dagies for the win.
  8. Some have said, "Why doesn't Florida State have to change?" I've said, "Wait for it. After they knock over UND, they'll come for FSU soon enough." Most scoffed at me. Well, I'm just going to smirk for now. It's not quite time to roll out my four favorite words, but it seems my time to use them may have just gotten another clock tick closer. http://www.tallahassee.com/article/20120509/COLUMNIST04/205090305/Gerald-Ensley-Cimarron-offers-a-name-for-the-future?odyssey=tab%7Cmostpopular%7Ctext%7CFRONTPAGE&nclick_check=1 Go Cimarron!
  9. Apparently whomever wrote that had highlighted the phrase "defensemen at the NCAA D1 level or above", hit Ctrl-C, and then hit Ctrl-V liberally after that. And the "at the NCAA D1 level or above" phrase says to me that Dane Litke may not have all the qualifications they are looking for. The italicized portion, and the constant use of the phrase "defensemen", is what they call, in poker, "a tell".
  10. My recollections of the WCHA Final Five in Target Center: - the ice was suspect at best - silver butter knife steaks are a short walk away - Dave Spehar got dumped up-side-down into UND's player bench one game.
  11. Fred Cox approves.
  12. I'd like to see UND go to a common theme for uniforms across the board (meaning all sports). I'd like to see a common color for helmets (hockey, football, ... lacrosse some day ). I think that would end up being black because greens are tough to match to jerseys, and given the current trend, I'd like to see that matte or flat black be taken on as the theme. I'd like to see a common mode in uniforms also where the teams have three jerseys: white, green, and a black alternate. I'm not sure what to say about pants. Hockey tends to a single color, home or road. Football tends to have two color pants depending on home/road and which jersey. BB tends to just match to the jersey. How's that geaux_sioux? Good enough restart of the primary discussion?
  13. Because it really is all about Dave.
  14. It'll end about the same time as the Vikings stadium arguments and the Sioux name disagreements.
  15. And players today prefer the tighter fit. They're the ones wearing it so they pick. Next question.
  16. Chewey, disparaging Tim O'Keefe, UND graduate, UND mens hockey letterwinner, member of a family of four generations of UND athleetes, really doesn't make your case. If Tim's mind has been changed on the subject, I'd recommend you look into what it took to change the mind of the man to sat behind the UND mens hockey color commentary radio mike, at SCSU after they announced their campus ban of the world "Sioux", and said, "Fighting Sioux. FIghting Sioux! Fighting SIOUX!" live, on air, in the SCSU press box, in front of their "hall monitors". If he's changed his mind on the subject, please, go ask him why and quit with the other non-sense because it makes you look somewhere between petty and foolish (and you're neither).
  17. Do the most prestigious schools in the world, schools that don't need athletics because of their academics, still have intercollegiate athletics? http://www.timeshigh...n-rankings.html The Top Ten Most Prestigious and their athletics affiliations: Harvard - NCAA DI MIT - NCAA DIII Cambridge - http://www.sport.cam...work/index.html UC Berkeley - NCAA DI Stanford - NCAA DI Oxford College - http://www.sport.ox.ac.uk/ Princeton - NCAA DI U of Tokyo - http://peak.c.u-toky...e/s-and-aa.html <-- there are dudes in football helmets in that picture! Yale - NCAA DI Cal Tech - NCAA DIII
  18. My sources have acquired DaveK's appearance on "Weekend Update" host by Dennis Miller, however, they had to transfer it from VHS to DVD (but couldn't find a way to increase the resolution to HDTV). That's how DaveK wanted it recorded, and he liked it that way.
  19. I advocate capital punishment for unruly students. (No, that's not a typo or a malapropism. )
  20. No, what he's saying is that you market to the target audience. A significant fraction of incoming freshmen, good or bad, right or wrong, look at athletics (either to play or attend) as an important factor in their college selection process.
  21. With what? The State of ND filed suit for UND in state court. That got us the settlement agreement (that SR intentionally let die). Spirit Lake tried a Federal case that got tossed for lack of standing. So the State has no recourse against the NCAA (because the settlement included giving up the right to re-file the case). The supportive Tribe has no Federal recourse apparently. And the ND Congressional delegation was, is, and surely will continue to be MIA. What do you propose to fight with or even appeal to? (Hint: As much as you'd probably like to say it, "Starfleet Command" is not an option.)
  22. I see the fatigue camp voting to make it go away.
  23. I suspect there is more nickname fatigue out there than many of us realize.
  24. Would Ralph Engelstad been able to make the donations he's made to the Chester Fritz Library collections* (General Patton's papers from WWI, worth millions) if it hadn't have been for a hockey scholarship to UND and his UND education in business? *I intentionally avoided his other donations to UND.
  25. So you were never a fan of North Dakota Football.
