  1. So now watchmaker is defending folks who would keep the moniker when it's been watchmaker's life's work to see the moniker removed. Now that-thar is irony writ large.
  2. Just ... Cavalry. Individual cavalrymen are called Troopers. --> Go Troop.
  3. Only one group killed more buffalo than the Plains Indians. That group was the Cavalry (the US Army).
  4. And even if you hit, you'd better have purchased the mineral rights to the parcel you're on (and good luck with that).
  5. UND's lawsuit against the NCAA spells out the specifics that some are questioning here: Note the singular use "namesake sovereign tribe" quoted from the NCAA's own document. Every school granted the namesake exemption received it based on the approval of a single tribe. That was all UND needed, too, until after the settlement agreement. In fact, UND maintained that it already had the approval of a namesake tribe. UND argued that the last official action of Spirit Lake's tribal government granted the university permission to use the nickname and logo. The NCAA asked the tribe to reaffirm its support, and Spirit Lake never did. As Teeder notes, tribal chairman Myra Pearson voted in favor of resolutions calling for an end to the Fighting Sioux nickname during the time when the tribal council was ignoring the NCAA's request to reaffirm the 2000 resolution. That did nothing but create confusion about whether or not Spirit Lake supported UND's use of the nickname. To satisfy the NCAA, all Spirit Lake's tribal council had to do was send a letter to the NCAA saying that the resolution it passed in 2000 still applied. It never happened. Thus, the NCAA ignored the tribe's last official action on the issue.
  6. Dear poseur, Where were you on August 5, 2005, shortly after the NCAA policy was announced? Me? I was in communication with the folks in 300 Twamley (Kupchella and Harmeson) explaining, citing chapter and section of the Division I manual, how the NCAA had broken their own by-laws in creating this policy. (The NCAA has since changed the by-laws making this policy correct within the NCAA rules structure.) So please, keep writing the humorous posts. I need the laughs.
  7. Yo Jim, With this upgrade did you change the mobile version of the forum? What I'm seeing on my WinPhone7 is much smoother and easier to navigate.
  8. Mr. Drinkwine, Tell it to the NCAA. In the meantime the NCAA has a virtual gun to UND's head, and they've already figuratively put one into our leg (telling the womens hockey team they'd be on the road even if they'd earned home ice) to show they're serious. UND has to make a move, stop the bleeding, and make sure more, worse damage doesn't happen. However, please, feel free to try to "disarm" the NCAA if you can. U UND's the victim in this; go after the perpetrator. SIgned, A guy who'll vote YES to stop the bleeding
  9. 10-0 on the road in the Stanley Cup playoffs. .... That's pretty good ...
  10. How do you reconcile your opinion/conclusion with those of Tim O'Keefe or Earl Strinden?
  11. Did Dave Hakstol just say "control what's yours to control"?
  12. http://www.grandfork...group/homepage/ That letter was written by Earl Strinden, the former majority leader of the North Dakota House and retired CEO of the UND Alumni Association, and one of Ralph Engelstad's best friends.

  14. By the State Constitution, the State Legislature can only meet for 80 days every two years. There are about 2100 separate jurisdictions in ND that rely on property taxes to provide the services they do. 80 days is 115200 minutes (assuming working 24 hours per day!). With about 2100 separate things to fund that means each jurisdiction gets under 55 minutes every two years to argue their budgetary needs in Bismarck. Plus, this consolidated more power in the Legislature. Sorry, I don't want more power consolidated in Bismarck with guys like Al Carlson. If a group is going to show up without an implementation plan and a proposal to eliminate a tax how about next time it's the state income tax instead.
  15. Vote Yes 4 UND. (That's some subliminal messaging to help people remember. )
  16. Yes 4 UND
  17. As I've said time and time again, someone will fill the void (and more than likely someone without UND's best interests in mind). Control what's your to control.
  18. You're getting what you've wanted all along (no more moniker) but not for the reason you want. So you're railing against those that are giving you what you claim you wanted. You just can't be happy with getting what you wanted. So you try the righteous / sanctimonious approach against folks who have UND's best interests above your crusading cause. I bet it's tough to learn that support for UND trumped your life's mission after all.
  19. I do believe Mac supported the logo until the price got too high (sanctions). My turning point was the settlement agreement. I really didn't like the terms, but the State negotiated it and I don't want the State to renege on a deal.
  20. Keep the politics out. Thank you. Signed, The Moderation Team
  21. How the {bleep} did Kopitar get so open in OT?
  22. Oh, ... nice, ... so now you're going to get all crabby and owly on me.
  23. "Hi, we're from the NCAA and we're here to help!" http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7990294/ncaa-investigating-montana-football-program-sexual-assault-harassment-reports-female-students
  24. If keeping the "same stance" was always a good thing we'd still have doctors doing bloodletting to cure disease. Times change. Circumstances change. Things change.
  25. There's no need for that. Please maintain some level of decorum. Thank you. Signed, The Moderation Team
