  1. It's no longer about getting a buzz. Today it seems it's all about the fastest path to obliteration and there's no way that can be good for anyone. The following links are not for the faint of heart. http://www.dailymail...quick-buzz.html http://www.huffingto..._n_1092594.html And now to the University of Tennessee where a person hit a blood alcohol level 5x the limit to drive. How? Don't ask ... http://www.huffingto..._hp_ref=college I'm not saying any of that ill-advised non-sense happened here. I'm trying to show the older-than-college-aged folks that the attitudes toward consumption have vastly changed since "back in your day", and not for the better or safer.
  2. C'mon. Seriously. Everyone knows Tate's a winger.
  3. Why was Faison called? I can't tell you I'm 100% positive about this, but I suspect it has to do with the concept of in loco parentis. Faison works directly for the campus executive and as such has a higher level of university authority and responsibility than any coach or faculty member, and assumably may act as "the university" when "in loco parentis" situations arise. In a similar situation with a non-athlete I speculate that UPD would call Lori Reesor (see same link).
  4. I wondered that also, but I'm guessing that must be UPD policy (because we know cops love following policy). I'd guess some VP wonk for student affairs or such from Twamley. I read it as the paramedics were already on scene. You noticed that too ...
  5. So, has anyone tallied up the total damage from this soiree yet?
  6. And if the unspeakable would've happened to one of the guys you'd be out there wondering where were the RAs looking out for them.
  7. Yes, you started it in Post #31 of this thread. I'm ending it here.
  8. Lose the politics or take a vacation.
  9. You seem to enjoy continually assuming the glass is empty ... and cracked.
  10. OK, Monday came and went, before Tuesday's Gone who were the four that were cited yesterday.
  11. Why? Easy. Follow the Benjamins. Their athletic department needed the money because the State of Iowa has fiscal issues. UNI played UW and Iowa and came home with checks totaling $950,000.
  12. The proper response to any gift is: Thank you.
  13. Dear Mr. Hamm and Continental Resources, Inc., Thank you.
  14. ... or a major gut ache.
  15. College aged kids consume. (Hey, guilty as charged in my day.) The behavior pattern of drinking to excess and possibly causing self-harm*, if happening, must be addressed and quashed. That's what my concern is. *Blacking out due to intentional over-consumption is the definition of causing self-harm. You aren't supposed to intentionally shut down your own central nervous system.
  16. Uh, you answered your own question right there. UND Administration is serving notice that the attitudes toward alcohol overconsumption must change.
  17. If, as speculated here, people needed medical attention, in a word, yes. Alcohol usage has both acute and chronic deleterious effects on athletic performance. http://espn.go.com/special/s/drugsandsports/alcohol.html
  18. Knowing Teeder his hint will be: Check about 1:45 pm. You know Teeder, he's just an oily ham ... he'll tell you something's coming but not exactly what.
  19. That's illegal also, and an even bigger risk to people around them. We can set expectations. We can deal with those who fail to meet expectations.
  20. Grand Forks/UND student in 2011: http://www.kfyrtv.co....asp?news=56063 Fargo/NDSU student in 2012: http://www.inforum.c...icle/id/375270/ That's called "the Montana problem". No. Wait. That's called "the Boston University problem". No. Wait. It's both.
  21. I just saw it on the WDAY/WDAZ sports. I think that was intended for the pylon and Jackson intercepted it.
  22. Why is this a big deal? How soon they forget: http://www.nytimes.c...&position=&_r=0 It's not like the days where it was "a couple beers" some of us remember. Today's students on just about every campus in America drink to obliteration and beyond, to the point of passing out. (I have college-aged relatives that tell me about the attitudes and actions and I'm simply taken aback. These people are putting their own lives at risk and think it's acceptable behavior in civil society.) Given the choice of headlines between "Faison suspends ... " and "Player found dead" I'll pick Faison sending the message. Every. Time. Melodramatic by me? Re-read the link.
  23. If it was 500 yards and 40+ points, yes. The yards are still up too high, but Sac only mustered 13 points (and 6 of those were garbage time). The defense is evolving; it still has a way to go but this week gave me hope that they are going the right way.
  24. Uh-uh-uuuhhh ... {wagging finger back and forth} ... No bringing up hockey or else we get to ask why NDSU just complains about hockey and never gets in the game.
  25. It was a good day for me: I had a Bison buddy tell me that NDSU/PV would be the biggest blowout of the day. Even though PVA&M has an 80-game losing streak in their history I still took the wager and picked "Big Red" to win by more than NDSU over PV (sorry fellow BIg Sky members). I've never been a big Huskers fan, but they got one for me yesterday.
