  1. "Always with the negative waves, Moriarity."
  2. Structurally Hyslop is sound. Beyond that it needs work. No matter what, the academic part of UND would love that space on the map, right by Witmer, Abbott, Leonard, and Starcher. You really can't do anything with Hyslop until the current occupants have somewhere to go, hence today's announcement. The long-range plan for the on-campus Wellness Center included building a pool on the north end at some point.
  3. It's easier to be on the sidelines and whine about what's happening than to be in the arena. Teddy Roosevelt said something like that once. I still trying to come up with a way to use this meterological phenomena to UND's advantage. I like how I put it here (paraphrased): Your world turns green just before you are thrashed by an unstoppable force.
  4. http://www.undsports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=205670708 And that explains the Altru logo on the floor of The Al.
  5. "According to UND President Robert Kelley, $9 million will serve as the leadership gift for a new UND Athletics Complex, an indoor practice and competition facility on campus." Does the phrase "leadership gift" imply we may be seeing the Altru name on that building?
  6. The last story I'd heard was that they were about $2 million short of the $20 million to build what they wanted in an ITF. A $9 million gift should take care of that and more.
  7. What would be so complicated? "Hi, we're leaving." They'd have a new organization and new bylaws (and television deals) in place in no time. Why? There's money to be made by them. I was skeptical of "three tiers" until I read what Saban and Benson said recently. Now I believe we may see it as soon as 2014 (new playoff).
  8. Or NMSU AD Boston is three weeks behind (or completely, cluelessly out of the loop).
  9. Altru? Are we sure someone didn't misspeak (confusing Alerus and Altru)? Picture, please.
  10. What's the commissioner of the Sun Belt Conference saying? Gee, it sounds like Benson (SBC commish) has heard of something like Saban's plan (top 70 or so). Where else would this "below the line" conferences statement come from? My guess? Above the line: SEC, Pac-12, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12*, Big East* Below the line: Sun Belt, MAC, C-USA, Mountain West, WAC (RIP) So there's the "third tier" (middle tier) of Division I football de facto forming. And if Benson is looking to limit "body bag" games that'll affect budgets (see article) so don't be surprised if budget issues don't lead to "reduction in scholarship limits" discussions later. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sun-belt-sets-sights-catching-084224055--ncaaf.html *I could see the Big East pilaged by the others in the coming days and the BE remnants ending up "below the line" or the Big Twelve folding up shop with the remnants going to the other "above the line" conferences.
  11. I had The General as a dark-horse candidate for an A.
  12. That I'm sure will not be happening. And few things in life am I sure of, but that is one.
  13. If Saban tipped the hand of what the plan is, I suspect the "second tier" will be highlighted by the MAC, Sunbelt, CAA, Big Sky, and MVFC. We could even see part (bottom half or so) of the Moutain West and C-USA.
  14. I still believe the crest of USS NORTH DAKOTA has UND's next moniker in it: Rough Riders Reapers Nokota
  15. Hurd, we have de facto three tiers today: FBS, FCS (with scholarships) FCS (no scholarships and the schools that don't play for FCS playoffs) What I see under Saban's plan: The top 70 or so (with N > 85 scholarships and mandatory cash stipends to players) The next 70 or so (with something like 75 scholarships, to merge FBS and FCS, and no stipends) The bottom run (no scholarships and the schools that don't play for FCS playoffs)
  16. Well, some of this is playing out officially: Boise State goes from WAC to Big West -- http://voices.idahostatesman.com/2012/08/24/ccripe/boise_state_joins_big_west_most_sports_agrees_25_million_entry_f WAC officially down to four (Idaho, Denver, NMSU, Seattle).
  17. In your opinion, the jersery should be loose, ala the Dorsett image. In the opinion of today's players, and apparel makers, it should be tight and form-fitted. They guys who wear them win the opinion battle.
  18. NCAA != US NAVY I'll side with the Navy. Why? They have tomahawks.
  19. Yup. Didn't see the Nokota horses, the Nokes, until I started reading this: About the USS North Dakota crest
  20. Wow. The symbology was updated quickly: Wikipedia on USS North Dakota
  21. The USS North Dakota now has a coat of arms. If this stays talking about this coat of arms I'll leave this thread open. If it turns to possible new UND monikers I'll close it. Keep the moniker talk in the "New Moniker" thread. Thanks.
  22. Yup. Here's the USS North Dakota's coat of arms. I say UND's new moniker is on here somewhere, either Rough Riders (pistol grips) or Reapers. What say you? PS - Bonus point to anyone who can tell me why one pistol is gold and one is silver. PPS - Who first rolled out the idea of Reapers ...
  23. Back in the days of the "tear-away jersey" I remember that it looked like backs (Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas in particular) had stuff waiving in the wind, trailing behind them. Those jerseys were loose and there was a lot to grab onto in the back of the jersey. But when you grabbed it ... poof! ... tear-away and the back is gone. When the tear-aways were outlawed they went with the same cut for a while. But they changed to a tighter cut in the lower back shortly thereafter. Now why was that? Just coincidence?
  24. Just saw the tweet: Captains and alternates will be announced later today. My predictions: C - MacWilliam (too many will pick Knight) A - Knight A - Rowney and if they go with a third A I'm going darkhorse ... The General. Yeah, I left Kristo out of the mix. Not sure why.
