KEH Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Simple question does USD have the team to knock off GVSU? Quote
BisonSuck Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 simple answer.....yes I agree with CRR's deep and perplexing insight to this topic. However, if I can expand a little bit more.... It looks like GVS beat up on Northwood 45-7 in October up in Grand Valley. And USD snuck by Northwood by 3pts in OT. Quote
SiouxMeNow Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 USD is dangerous and the Lakers haven't exactly (cough, cough!) played the toughest competition this season so yeah...the 'Yotes will give them a run! I heard a couple of their receivers got banged up at Northwood and they do need both the run and pass option but I think they'll be suprised by Stefan Logan - even if they stack their cards JUST to bottle him up*....(*Calling Noah "CHUCK IT" Shepard!! ) Quote
Lefty - UNO Fan Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 If the game were in Vermillion, I'd say it was a coin flip. However, USD is not a great road team and I think they have very little chance. Quote
Shawn-O Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Until someone can prove otherwise, I will take GVSU at Lubbers any day of the week and twice on Saturday. Quote
SiouxMeNow Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Shawn-O has a pretty good point - Lubbers is a tough place to play but there's something about this matchup that's intriguing...if USD gets off to a fast start - who knows? I'd rather play USD again in the AL than have to travel to Allendale again... Quote
Smoggy Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 If the game were in Vermillion, I'd say it was a coin flip. However, USD is not a great road team and I think they have very little chance. Didn't USD just win on the road in the playoffs? Quote
Smoggy Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 I have to make the comment that playing outdoors can affect a team, but I don't believe the crowd is one of those affects. Because of this, I believe both UND and USD can easliy pull off the win. Quote
BigGame Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Didn't USD just win on the road in the playoffs? Yes, but it was ugly and USD really played poorly for about half of the game. Quote
HockeyMom Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Go USD! I wanna see the Sioux play in Forks again, so that we don't end the season with an attendance of 5,000..........this team deserves better than that! Quote
fightonsioux Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Unfortunately, even if USD wins and we win there is no guarantee we get home field. It goes to a bidding process and then is decided by the NCAA. We have two strikes against us. The poor showing in the first round and the fact that the NCAA hates us. Quote
Stromer Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Unfortunately, even if USD wins and we win there is no guarantee we get home field. It goes to a bidding process and then is decided by the NCAA. We have two strikes against us. The poor showing in the first round and the fact that the NCAA hates us. I thought this was just for the semifinals. Maybe I am wrong, but I thought the team with the higher seed got homefield until the semifinals because then there are multiple teams of similar seeds. So I think we would have a home game against USD if we were both to win. Quote
fightonsioux Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 I check with Wayne Nelson and he said, as far as he knows: after the first two rounds, depending on who beats who, home field is up in the air. Quote
UND92,96 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 I check with Wayne Nelson and he said, as far as he knows: after the first two rounds, depending on who beats who, home field is up in the air. Check this link at page 7 for the answer. The higher seed hosts, provided they meet certain qualifications. Quote
Cratter Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Check this link at page 7 for the answer. The higher seed hosts, provided they meet certain qualifications. Remember a few years back when UND hosted althought they "shouldn't" have? I believe the other team was seeded higher, although different regions. Was it again North Alabama? Quote
UND92,96 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Remember a few years back when UND hosted althought they "shouldn't" have? I believe the other team was seeded higher, although different regions. Was it again North Alabama? Nope, both UND and UNA were number one seeds that year. UNA was undefeated and UND had one loss, but that was back when playing a I-AA killed your strength of schedule, and since UNA had played one, that was the difference. Quote
SiouxMD Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Unfortunately, even if USD wins and we win there is no guarantee we get home field. It goes to a bidding process and then is decided by the NCAA. We have two strikes against us. The poor showing in the first round and the fact that the NCAA hates us. 5073 - WSU vs UND 5000 - Albany State vs Newberry 3315 - Delta State vs Elizabeth City State 1412 - USD vs Northwood These are the attendance figures for the first round games in our half of the playoff bracket. It was the poorest turnout in Alerus Center history but we still drew more than the others. I am not sure that our "poor showing" will hurt as much as "the fact that the NCAA hates us." Quote

I believe the other team was seeded higher, although different regions. Was it again North Alabama? That only applies once you get to the National Semi's. In each individual region, the higher seed hosts all the way through to the Region Final as UND92,96 posted. After that, it all goes into politics about where the NCAA can make as much money. Quote
SiouxMD Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 The other half... 6237 - MWSU vs Midwestern 5234 - West Chester vs Bryant 4448 - Abilene Christian vs West Texas A&M 2312 - Southern Connecticut vs Merrimack UND came in third overall in first round attendance. BTW...I believe GVSU will beat USD making it easy for the NCAA. Quote
Cratter Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 That only applies once you get to the National Semi's. The UNA game was the National Semi's. Quote

UNO would be OK but we have a "thing" going with UND and we have to get our digs in before you move up to D 1. Quote
