UND Recruits - 2006-07 Updates

This thread is a tradition, and although it's a little early, we may as well kick it off. As in the past, we'll try to keep this one limited to information about future Sioux players, those that have committed to play for the Sioux. Information about prospective recruits should continue to be posted in the active thread for that topic.

So far, these players have committed to play at UND:

Derrick LaPoint - Will kick off his season with Green Bay in the USHL at the Buc Bowl on 9/28/06. Should take some time to adjust to the pace of the junior game, but should use the year to add strength and experience. The USHL website is great for following game information.

Jake Marto - Will also start at the Buc Bowl on 9/28/06, with Omaha in the USHL. As one of the oldest players on his team and having played there last year, he should be one of the key players on his team.

Evan Trupp - His BCHL team, Penticton, has started its season, but Trupp is reportedly a few weeks away from being fully recovered from his shoulder injury. Can perhaps use this season to add strength and polish the skills needed to become another classic undersized, overskilled Sioux speedster.

Danny Kristo - Will play for the USNDP Under-17 team, which plays in the NAHL. His season begins 9/22/06. I haven't spent much time on the NAHL website, but it looks like it should work well for following his progress.

** Shea Hamilton - A transfer from UAA, he'll be in school at UND this year (but not eligible to play hockey until 2007-08), so there won't be any games to follow.

We'll hope to add a few more names in the near future.

Inside college hockey has Grieco listed as 9 in the top 10 goalie recruits for this coming year. Pretty good for a guy who was off most peoples radar until UND signed him.

Unfortunately, they don't provide any comment, but after seeing Minnesota dominate the forward and defense groups, its good to see UND get another recruit mentioned. Forney is listed as 3rd in the forwards.

I apologize, but I didn't see LaPoints stats for the saturday game until just know. He had 2 assists and was +3, that is encouraging.

im not to concerned with the +/- at all on these guys even if it is great.

good start for lapoint in the production category

Brett Hextall stats. Currently leads his team with 17 points and a 1.3ppg average in 13 games. 73 PIMs!

Appears that Evan Trupp just played his first game. Good to hear he's back on the ice again.

Derek LaPoint is tied for 2nd on his team in scoring after 3 games with 2-3-5. +3 and 6 PIM's

Jake Marto in 4 games has no scoring, 0+/- and 4 PIMs.

Brad Malone in 3 games has no scoring, -2, and 13 PIMs

Danny Kristo through 8 games leads the U-17 team in scoring with a 4-3-7 line and 4 PIMs.

Shea Hamilton DNP :)

What is going on with Marto?

I was down in Omaha last weekend to watch the Lancers play Sioux Falls and then drove to Des Moines to watch the Lancers play the Bucs. Jake played very well both night. Although he is not putting up the points, he still effects the game like he did in high school. He is one of the best skaters on his team and also one of the top defensemen. On Saturday night's game in Des Moines, he played every other shift and was even in a 4-0 loss.

Those seem to be pretty good numbers for a defenseman. It would appear that Lapoint is a

offensive threat. Hum, I like it. A good size d-man that has an offensive flair.
