The numbers reported here, which I think come from Knight-Newhouse, don't exactly reconcile with publicly available data. SDSU's football spending reported to the SDBOR, isn't quite as high as reported here, although a lot of the data matches up. I think, in our case, some of the facility debt service is allocated to FB for these reports. MSU's budget took a big jump - $5m year over year, without revenues and expenditures really changing for the department as a whole. As unstable and chaotic as collegiate athletics is right now, I think the best thing those schools can do is keep a close eye on developments and get their institutions in position to move up when the opportunity presents itself.
