The point is that neither player had aged out yet, so they could have played CHL and logged way more important minutes and gone to college the following year. 7 minutes a game for a skilled player is a joke. We have had that conversation about ushl since the beginning. But this is all new for the CHL players. A lot of them think they are a little better than they are. College puck is no joke.

Yes, but it also shows that if you are an elite player, then playing in college is going to be better for your development if you are looking to make a step to the next level.  So, it probably is a cautionary tale in that playing against mature players is a whole lot different than putting up circus numbers in the CHL, and that for most looking to make the jump, there might be a learning curve just like most freshmen entering college.

The reason that some players are pushed by NHL teams is because they are truly elite and ready for that next step of development.  Other than that, many should just stay in the CHL to develop until they are ready for the jump as you rightly pointed out, just like staying another year in the USHL would have been better for Cole Spicer.

Exactly. The two referenced players definitely should have played another year in the CHL. It’s a case by case basis really, especially guys going to these big blue blood programs.

Granted Guy Gadowski has reasons to be rolling his top 2 lines but I do think its a benefit to be a team thats typically trying to roll 4 lines like we appear to be so far this year. Pretty sure neither of those players are suited to play penalty kill based on those minute totals too so not the smartest roster building from Gadowsky and Co.

This reminds me of Adam Tambellini all over again.  A whopping .25 PPG at UND in 16 games.  Jumps over to Calgary and in over 100 career games in the WHL he puts up a 1.22 PPG average.

You are playing against older, more complete/mentally mature players in college hockey.  Makes sense why some CHL teams are currently paying NAHL teams for players now.  If you are a CHL guy it makes sense to make the jump to college hockey, but the video game numbers you put up in Moose Jaw are over with.  I think its been said, and I'll agree, as long as you have that CHL eligibility but aren't at the level of a Verhoeff or Reschny, it probably makes sense to develop another year or so in the CHL before making the jump to the NCAA.

I was trying to figure out what they were getting at. So, I looked and they have played every damn game. This CHL crying is getting old lol

Misa has an average of 10 minutes TOI

Katzin has an average of 7 minutes TOI

Generals Live is taking a teeny-tiny data set and trying to persuade by extrapolating a overly broad conclusion.  Ridiculous.

Ignoring for the moment the elitest of talent, look at say Josephson (14:20) and Zakreski (13:08), and tell me their minutes are unfair and too low.

I completely agree. Why leave before you have to if you aren’t not dominating the level that you are at? I feel like some of these guys drastically underestimated the level of play of college hockey. College hockey is the best it has ever been and it’s only getting better. It will be interesting to see how programs approach bringing in their commits in the coming years if they are not a top prospect.

Considering these kids have been listening to people like Don Cherry trash college hockey their entire lives, this does not surprise me.

They also posted about a Michigan defensemen who’s not playing but should be in the OHL (I think) putting up 20 minutes a night. The Michigan recruiting page said he’s 20/21 and the Kings didn’t sign him for a reason.
