cberkas Posted July 8 Author Posted July 8 It's going to be fun seeing students at B1G schools like Minnesota when they beat Penn State Quote

The Big 10 being more up and down in pace will definitely help. B1G plays little to no defense and goaltending has been suspect there for awhile Quote

nascar99 Posted July 8 Posted July 8 As annoying as Buccigross is, would much have rather watched he or Emily Kaplan interview Gavin McKenna. Kevin Negandhi has zero clue how hockey development routes work & none of the producers on the SportsCenter staff informed him. Cool to see NCAA hockey get more attention on the flagship show though Quote
SJHovey Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Listened to The Athletic podcast. They were shaking their heads on him picking PSU. No history of developing NHL talent. Traditionally soft schedule. Not the same talent level as other locations. They chalked it up to two things: NIL and the chance to be the entire focus of the program. 1 Quote

nascar99 Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Two open spots for State now. Spartans should still be a very good team, but more pressure on some of their youngsters to produce a ton off the bat, plus Stramel will need to be great every night Quote

I think Michigan State knew he was gone months ago. This wasn’t really an if, but a when. Tampa wasn’t going to let him walk and Howard had to use his leverage to get to a team that he could have a legitimate role. This definitely hurts UND’s chances at Martone. We still are probably on the outside looking in on the Martone sweepstakes. 1 Quote

Just checked their past schedules and they haven't played an NCHC or Hockey East school since... UND at Nashville back in 2021. They'll finally break that streak by playing at ASU this year to open the season. They've been flying under the radar with still scheduling like they're an up and coming club team hahah was not aware of that. 1 Quote

I broke it down one day last year and North Dakota had played the same amount of out of conference tournament teams as 4/5 of the 7 big ten teams combined, including Minnesota. I believe Michigan and Michigan State had the only tough out of conference schedule. I really think the only difference between UND and some of the Big Ten schools that made the tournament was scheduling. Minnesota was BAD against teams in the tournament last year. 1 Quote
atxsioux Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I think in general across college hockey I'd just like to see more big time matchups between NCHC, Big 10, and Hockey East schools. Think someone mentioned before but for as much as i respect Bemidji and love to help them out by putting a big time name on their schedule every year I'd like to see us move away from constantly playing them (Every other year or even once every 3 years) Wishful thinking likely but I'd love to see us get in a rotation of trying to play a Boston based team every year whether (IE, BU, Harvard, BC, Northeastern). Speaking as a transplant it's usually cheaper and quicker to fly to Boston than grand forks hahah. 1 2 Quote

I would pay money to watch that. 1 1 Quote

North Dakota should play Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin, and either Boston College or Boston University every season IMHO. 3 Quote

Blue bloods knocking the crap out of each other, besides their grueling conference games is a recipe for a lot of lesser conference teams to sneak in by not having to face the challenge of playing them. There are only so many non conference games, but even with the pairwise boost from playing the elite, some are going to be on the outside because there are only so many spots, especially if you get any conference tourney upsets. Among other insights, he addresses something on our minds that isn't getting much attention elsewhere: blue chips late in the recruiting cycle is a whole new world. 2 Quote
