Well, you can really see the improvement!
12 turnovers, 11 points. Scored 9 points in the first quarter, 2 points in the second quarter, but we did have 2 assists.
Down 28-11 at the half. 🏀

I’m too lazy to look it up myself, when was he hired? Was the portal already closed? I don’t know what the excuse would be to have this little talent

USD went in the portal and totally transformed there team.  We have at least 4 players from the portal. Only one has shown any promise

USD went with junior senior portal players more ready to play division I  and are much better than we are this year but with this move they are pretty much locked in the middle ground not good enough to play now with SDSU and probably not with NDSU but they will be looking for players again next year to repeat similar performance but never reaching point where they can win conference. UND approach was to find freshman sophomores that were recruits that were considered to have high potential but went to tier 3 and 4 schools but just sat basically for year on their bench. Choosing these type of players and also finding recruits that would mesh into culture they are trying to build the program block by block given they at least three years eligibility. In theory this could be good but problem is like all recruiting there are going to be number of these players are not going to make it at this level. When we went this direction we were pretty much looking at least two years of misery before we could look to compete at higher level because your not going to win or look good playing number of freshman and sophomores.
Finally we have very limited money to attract better portal players for the basketball programs now. Like I said above  some attention is needed for basketball teams and other sports at UND. The sarcastic remarks above on my remark on facilities is part of things to bring back these sports. Also you think just going out finding big time candidates for these positions going to fix this is just matter opening up positions your going to get flood of people they are just like college recruits if things are not in place to win they are going to pass move on and for better fit. They are not going to go through 5 to 7 year rebuild lstarting from beginning it’s asking  them to risk future coaching plans with very little compensation for the amount of risk coming here. The level of pay I would be better as assistant coach at tier 4 and 5 schools then they have time to find right small mid major program they can have success in shorterm and jump to next level. This realistic view of where we’re at because we have let these programs slide to just keep up to other teams in Summit. The statement of Hockey and football consuming 95% of budget may not that far off. To run college sports to be successful now takes huge amount of money something that wasn’t here 5 years ago and until we get correction this is only going to worse when we’re seeing college players are getting paid in 100,000. To into millions that was illegal not that many years ago.

Press conference back in April Hutter said "This is not a rebuild.  I'm not interested in rebuilding.  We are interested in reconstructing this roster so we can compete at an extremely high level immediately.  By bringing in talented players".  Just imagine how bad it would've been if it was a rebuild! Also, the word on street is they even paid some of the new players.  If this is true, this just shows Hutters ability to pick talent.  Chaves stated times are a changing and mass exodus are the norm.  If this is true you need find a coach that is ready to pick talent from the portal every year. The years of bringing in freshman to rebuild a program are over. You can't bet on anyone staying anymore!  Our offense is the worst!  We are last in the conference in 3pt shooting at 24% and last in turnovers at 22 p/game.  Why do we insist on dribbling so much and shooting shots we are terrible at if we are the worst in the league at them? We are 18 games in maybe it's time for a change.  I've heard of slamming your head in the door over and over again but i think we are decapitated by now! So, let's stop talking about years out and giving him time because that wasn't his plan.  "THIS IS NOT A REBUILD"

I don't live in GF and haven't been to the Betty for many years.  I was familiar with the old setup but not what's changed.  I believe they moved the stands on the end back but not sure.  It wasn't great originally so can only imagine what it is like now. Can someone explain what they did?

They moved the baseline bleachers back so far that even in the front row you need binoculars to see the what’s going on on the court. No student section anymore either. Made it a “premium seating” area that nobody actually sits in or uses.

On the one hand, yes, this season has been pretty much a disaster. And Hutter is ultimately responsible for both the players that were brought in, and in keeping some of the returnees who realistically aren't legitimate division I players, which clearly he knew from having coached them for a year.

On the other hand, last year's team was actually very close to being quite good. They split two close games with NDSU, and were far more competitive vs. SDSU than in the previous years. IMO, the two biggest reasons for the improvement were the addition of Schiller, and presumably at least to some extent Hutter's coaching, since those were really the only major changes from the year before.

The bottom line is that he couldn't adequately replace Pemberton, Schiller and Ibrahim from the portal, and without difference-makers it's extremely difficult to win. Will he fare any better in the portal after this season? He's going to have to, because realistically the incoming freshmen plus Duchsherer may be able to replace the production of Demers, Aumer and Hughes, but I'm not sure it's realistic to expect much more than that from freshmen and somebody who hasn't played serious basketball in four years.

Have to admire theses ladies for sticking with it

cant be easy to play  knowing the talent just isn’t at the level it needs to be

need to give coach a few years to turn it around

The portal isn't this all you can eat buffet of quality players that you just pick and choose who you want.  The good players we all want have to actually want to come here.  And I don't think it's fair to put much of that on him at this point.  He's battling several years of embarrassing futility that he had nothing to do with.
