ND-fan Posted December 22, 2024 Author Posted December 22, 2024 Today I couldn’t watch the whole game after watching 2 1/2 quarters of where we had series of four or five possession's with resulting in turnover and there announcers talking about it and Mallory not even calling timeout I finally shut the game off. I know what Mallory’s game plan of pushing the tempo not letting Wyoming control tempo work ball into there post player and control possessions. I had watched South Dakota get beat badly earlier by Wyoming badly playing to Wyoming game plan. The reason South Dakota got destroyed they didn’t shoot even 20% from field and they couldn’t match up and rebound with Wyoming. I believe if we played Wyoming game we had chance to have won todays game. Mallory just won’t play control game she wants up tempo game but with experience we have it’s not going to work because we can’t have near 30 turnovers a game. Second when we’re trying push like we did today our players were tired and making poor decisions. Second I don’t understand, we should now have gotten down to seven or players who are going to be players for conference season but I am afraid she hasn’t come to that rotation. With her still playing at least 12 players there’s no jelling with starters or subs with starters because we may only have one to two starters on the floor at time. It was good to play number of players early in preseason but by now we should know which players you believe are ones carry in conference season. I got to believe Mallory has her preferences and assistants are pushing some of younger players so we haven’t settled on rotation. This is going to be long season and our record probably will end up at 10-19 give or take 1 or 2 wins either way. Also we are not getting assists anymore but everyone playing for themselves to get playing time. Same as last year not team playing but group of individuals reflects back on the coach. Quote
NDPROUD Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 What has happened to this team since Nov 8th? They have gone from playing some fairly decent team ball and being competitive...to this. The first few games they played as a team with a WE attitude, to now it's every lady for themself? As questioned earlier, where are the assists?? We have D1 guards turning the ball over because they dribbled the ball off their foot, traveled, or threw the ball away with a bad/weak pass because they couldn't handle the pressure. What is this coaching staff working on in practice? Maybe they need to go back to the basics of dribbling, passing, ball protection, team play and, for God's sake...mental strength. The talent is there for them to be playing and competing far better than this. They need to believe in themselves! I personally don't like to see our coach being combative with the refs, every game. I'm all about standing up for our players, but there needs to be some tact incorporated also. Technicals don't do anyone any good, especially embarrassing the team. 1 Quote

ND-fan Posted December 22, 2024 Author Posted December 22, 2024 I couldn’t say it better but I don’t think it’s coaching staff but the head coach she is only one component from year to year with the team. Chaves needs to turn his attention here this program is in far worse shape than football or even soccer team were at before changes were made. I think they need to come up with position move for Mallory now and see what assistant coach could do with the program in last half of the season. Quote

I'm not in favor of a mid season change, this team has enough challenges right now. If the assistant coach is good he'll use his influence to make a difference now. If we change coaches, it's after season and we look for a D1 coach...IMHO. Quote
ND-fan Posted December 22, 2024 Author Posted December 22, 2024 I am not usually in favor of mid seasons changes either but like some said he was hired for possible head coach if things didn’t work with Mallory. This is my reason for change things are heading south fast lately. I am hoping for 5 more wins with no changes and if we continue step backwards we may only see couple wins first game exit tournament. Second I don’t want to watch when we’re getting beat by 30 or 40 points by NDSU , SDSU, and Oral Roberts on home floor but I will probably watch just because I’m keep hoping we will turn things around and these players deserve better than their getting in coaching. I think UND needs put more effort in women’s sports we have gone from coaches that turned over programs transition from DIi to DI that competed to where they went to NCAA tournaments to now we can’t even get in top 1/3 of the conference. This should not be acceptable and needs to be fixed. This is much worse than football everyone one was complaining about football but womens basketball has had much more success in past and if done right we could become again factor in women’s basketball SDSU is proving it right now. 1 Quote
SIOUX29 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 This is another case of AD doing easy when he hired her, instead of doing right. This coach has to go. She should have been let go after last year. She obviously can’t judge talent because we have what 3 players that look D1? When you practice against subpar talent and then have to go play talent, they can’t keep up with the pace and make poor ball decisions. We never controlled the two games against NAIA schools this year. We finally had to pull away. Up 5 at 1/2 against (3-7)Dickinson and down 3 to (8-4) Mayville at 1/2. NAIA schools in ND. Coach needs to go sooner than later. Who cares that it’s mid season. What do we have to look forward to with her at the helm? 2 Quote

SiouxFan100 Posted Friday at 02:18 AM Posted Friday at 02:18 AM Down by 18 halfway through the third quarter - 20 turnovers - 7 in the first four minutes in the third qtr Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted Friday at 03:10 AM Posted Friday at 03:10 AM We came back in the fourth qtr to lose by five 71-66 pemberton had a massive game we ended up with 29 turnovers - hard to be successful Quote
NDPROUD Posted Friday at 03:30 AM Posted Friday at 03:30 AM We finally decided to play in the fourth quarter, but it's hard to win when you've allowed yourself to get so far down. All opposing teams need to do is watch tapes of this team and know that they can't handle the full press. Pemberton could have even better games if she wasn't playing for herself. So many times Demers is standing there and capable of receiving a skilled bounce pass, but instead Pemberton drives in, only to turn it over by bouncing the ball off her foot. Why aren't these coaches working on these turnovers??? It's down right embarrassing. 1 Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted Friday at 03:35 AM Posted Friday at 03:35 AM Yes, if only pemberton could do what she does without all the turnovers we don’t do assists very well 1 Quote

This team averages 22.5 against D1 teams. 2/1 Assist to turnover rate is a minimum goal. Ours is 1/2.4. At some point it may be advisable to shoot the ball as soon as you cross the half court line and can get a shot on the rim and then have everyone crash the boards. 3 Quote

That’s a good point, but there’s never anyone there for an offensive board. They are so terrified of the transition coming back that they never have any 2nd chance opportunities. Quote
Hans8891 Posted Saturday at 08:36 AM Posted Saturday at 08:36 AM Of 14 games, 8 have 20 or more turnovers, 6 have 20 or more, and unbelievably 4 have 28 or more. I didn’t think that was even possible. These kids are better than what we are seeing on the floor. This program needs a serious coaching overhaul. 2 Quote
ND-fan Posted Saturday at 11:49 AM Author Posted Saturday at 11:49 AM UND, players and fans deserve better than this how bad does it have to get before a change is made. She has had at least three different sets of assistant coaches in five years but bottom line is they all have had same problems of to many turnovers and lack of consistent offense to build on. Second she talks of playing good defense but our teams struggle learning to play defense. Finally these teams become more of five individuals instead of team working together. This team was playing team ball better earlier it showed in number of assists they had now look the numbers keep dropping. I would let Hutter finish season when he was at Mayville his teams played as teams he had over 10 years of high level of success. How staying the course is going to be better for the program I do not understand we’re not going to get better and how can we get much worse. I think now we are going to finish dead last in the conference. Quote

They were playing as a team, now with the exception of Jocie and Walker, it's everyone for themselves. Now they look like 8th graders. What happened? Why don't the coaches see this and make adjustments? They keep playing the same style of game. They have better potential than what we are seeing now. Quote
