Mama Sue
Sometimes groups do “pledges” to help jump start fundraising. Just saying it may help stir the pot.
The Sicatoka
Quote Typically, there are two overarching phases for capital campaigns: the quiet phase and the public phase. During the quiet phase, 50%-70% of the funds are raised through major gifts strategies. And during the public phase, the remaining funds are raised by soliciting donations from a larger population of donors. https://www.donorsearch.net/capital-campaigns-guide/#:~:text=Typically%2C there are two overarching,a larger population of donors. Might they not quite be ready for the public phase quite yet ... Hint: This forum is not the target of the quiet phase.

Compare UND's current strategy and marketing for phase two and other projects in our athletics master plan, like the basketball practice facility, and the softball field, to this: https://www.whatsnextinitiative.com/ https://twitter.com/BroncoSports/media Funding isn't even close to being in place for most of that stuff. I could have swore they were originally looking at another 20-25 mil, but I may be wrong, and most importantly, that number would have included everything that is now going into memorial village, such as coaches offices, general AD offices, meeting rooms, etc. Edit: I was wrong. Original price tag for phase two was much higher. The combined square footage of the current phase two and UND's portion of memorial village is much less that what was originally planned for phase two, however. https://www.grandforksherald.com/sports/und-athletics-focus-shifts-to-second-phase-of-high-performance-center
The Sicatoka
So a total $35M price tag. But the Memorial Village portion ... Quote ... the proposed Memorial Village. ... The total cost is a reported 25 million dollars and will be a public, private partnership spearheaded by three prominent UND alums. So the $35M when it was the all-encompassing project, minus this portion of it, or $25M, and that's why with $12M they're projecting starting Phase II this summer. Of course a $35M project in 2018 is probably now conservatively $40M if not higher. Need to get shovels in the ground soon, or it will be $50M. The time to be building was 5 years ago. Inflation isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

While they would love to raise $29-30M to add some very nice features to the building, the $ they really need is about $26M.

Just to clarify, I didn't really intend to imply anything other than that. The combined square footage of the two current plans do not equal 100% of the square footage that was originally planned for in HPC2. I mentioned this because it is a relevant fact, as that 35 million number was based on the the initial plan for hpc2 (more sq ft). At the end of the day it won't really be a meaningful difference, but that context helps to account for why the 35 million number was so high.
