Kind of on their heals a bit the last part of the period.  Can't complain about the score though.

Sanderson is such a great skater.  Just barely missed the Swede behind the net with the hip check.  Would have been an electric hit.

Score holds and....

USA-Slovakia

Finland-Sweden

Canada-Czech Republic

Russia-Germany

Kind of uncomfortable with Knight that last period, playing the puck behind the net with all 10 players in the zone.  Seems to be forgetting the lesson learned earlier in the week.

True but he looks locked in otherwise

So would USA and Canada be in separate brackets?

There isn't a bracket after the quarters.  The highest ranked team plays the lowest ranked of the winners.

Oh that’s right. The way the boys played tonight if they happened to get Canada I feel better about their chances. Went from 5% to 20%

Okay.  Doing the rankings the best I can here.  This is after the quarters:

1.  Canada-12 points

2   USA-9 points, wins goal differential over Finland.

3.  Finland-9 points.

4. Russia-8 points

5. Sweden-7 points

6. Czech Republic-6 points

7. Germany-5 points

8. Slovakia-4 points.

If Sweden beats Finland they'd likely play Canada, unless a big time upset by Germany over Russia or Slovakia over the USA.

Close.

The rankings go by group finish first then points. The reason the USA is 2 is because of their 1B finish.

1. Canada (1A) (12 pts)

2. USA (1B) (9pts)

3.Finland (2A) (9 pts)

4. Russia (2B) (8 pts)

5. Sweden (3B) (7 pts)

6. Germany (3A) (5 pts)

7. Czechoslovakia (4B) (6 pts)

8. Slovakia (4A) (4 pts)

so does the canadian wjc rule predate the gopher wcha rule?

The top four placed teams from the Preliminary will play a cross-over quarter-final game: 1A vs. 4B, 1B vs. 4A, 2A vs. 3B and 2B vs. 3A. Canada will play the third quarter-final game (17:00) if qualified. The winner of each quarter-final moves onto the semi-finals.
