MafiaMan
Tampa sells out their arena every night I should have clarified that a bit for Tampa...current ownership and the leadership of Yzerman as GM have steadied the Maple Leafs South franchise in the past 3-4 years. The Panthers are a mess.

SiouxVolley
I know Vegas was hit hard by the recession...has the "recovery" been good enough where casinos have bounced back a bit? They are building again and.most.have seen their stock.prices rebound and more. Alberta connections have been very.good for them. A couple of years ago Bruckheimer would have been a total fool to pursue it.

Obviously the western conference needs two additional teams...outside of Las Vegas, Seattle, and Kansas City, are there any other possibilities in terms of a team joining the league? Salt Lake City? Smoggy
In all honesty...why not Kansas City? Now have one in central and then the other west team can be in west division. What I do like is the NHL is looking at markets that don't have other competition. Granted maybe the big corporate money ma not be there, but look how quickly Oklahoma City adopted the Sonics (I know they did get good quick). Salt Lake City? Milwaukee, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Kansas City, San Diego, Portland, Regina/Saskatoon Austin and San Diego need arenas. The others need ownership groups. Regina/Saskatoon needs people for ratings. Milwaukee, San Antonio, and Portland have the problem that they have competing NBA teams. Austin has UT. Salt Lake is considered too small unless they didn't have an NBA team. Same as New Orleans. Tulsa wants an pro team like OKC, but won't get the NHL because its too small. OKC has a lot of corporate support now (like Cheasepeake, Devon, Continental Resources) that didn't exist ten years ago. Houston in like the largest metro region without an NHL team (Atlanta is close).

SiouxVolley
How about SanFran Oakland area ? San Jose's Sharks. The money in the bay area is mostly in the stretch fromsouth of San Francisco to San Jose. (Googles, Apples, Ciscos, Intels , Facebooks) Possible the biggest concentration of wealth in the world. When did Milwaukee get an NBA team? The Lakers traded a city, Milwaukee, for Lew Alcindor. Saw someone say free beer Where that at Aren't you the beer badger, the twin of the honey badger? siouxfaninseattle
There has been concern about the proposed arena deal in Seattle since Ballmer bought the Clippers, but it looks like it won't have any effect. http://www.king5.com/news/arena/Chris-Hansen--261566091.html

The expansion teams would likely have to pay $1 B a piece, which divided by 30 owners means each owner gets a cool $70 M just for expanding the NBA. Or is that $1 billion expansion "fee" likely to mean the end of new cities getting sports teams, especially the NBA? David Silver, just GIVE a team to Seattle already. SAVE OUR SONICS! SiouxVolley
Or is that $1 billion expansion "fee" likely to mean the end of new cities getting sports teams, especially the NBA? David Silver, just GIVE a team to Seattle already. SAVE OUR SONICS! Seattle has a number of billionaires, so a billion bucks for a team isn't too much to ask. But the NBA might just add two teams in Europe (like London, Paris, or Barcelona) where they can make bigger bucks. Seattle is the most lucrative empty NBA market in the US left. For the NHL to go to Seattle, an NBA team must first be place in Seattle so there will be a new arena partially financed by the new NBA owner. The NHL owner likely can't finance the arena.
