MafiaMan
The NCAA itself doesn't make any money off the BCS or the Championship game. The FBS conferences and schools make money, but the NCAA does not participate. This is from the BCS web site. I probably shouldn't have implied that the NCAA directly makes money off of the BCS system inasmuch as I was suggesting that the whole "system" makes money on BCS football games. Had Ohio State and Auburn lost out on millions, heads would roll at NCAA headquarters. Instead, the NCAA pulled the old "we aren't affiliated with the BCS so we can't do anything" card. JohnboyND7
I beg to differ and hardly consider Ohio State and Auburn as "campus issues." Flashback to the Buckeye/Tiger championship game. There is NO EXCUSE for the NCAA washing its hands of Ohio State's player eligibility issues which erupted BEFORE that bowl game. None. And if you think Cam Newton is innocent in the "build-my-preacher-dad-a-church-and-I'll-attend-your-school" fiasco, then I don't know what to tell you. The NCAA did what it had to do in order to ensure that money would be made on a football game. Take away five Ohio State football players and Auburn's star quarterback and you get a sub-par title game, bad TV ratings and revenue being lost. The NCAA simply couldn't allow that to happen. And it didn't. Instead, the NCAA turns a blind eye and suspends the five OSU players for the start of the following season. Then the bottom drops out on Coach Sweater-Vest. Cam Newton bolts for the NFL after winning an NCAA championship trophy for Auburn. Win win for everyone though because the NCAA made money hand-over-fist on the championship game. Five years from now, Cam Newton will be a star in the NFL and he'll return his Heisman Trophy just like Reggie Bush. OSU's already dealing with sanctions and in a few years, Auburn will wind up being the USC of the east. Since the NCAA likes to sanction schools for nicknames, perhaps a "naughty list" of schools that seem to have an epidemic of "strictly campus matters" is something the NCAA should be discussing. Just a thought. ....This is sad that no one noticed he screwed up. Ohio State did not play for the National Championship. Auburn and Oregon did. It will be interesting to see what happens to Auburn. The NCAA did their investigation and then closed it. Sounded like Cam and Auburn were safe. His Dad though, was trying to sell his son basically. Ohio State played Arkansas and got to keep all their suspended players for that one last game. FBS is lame. Very money driven.
The Sicatoka
Very money driven. No. No. No. College sports is all, ALL about the student-athlete and nothing more. The integrity of the student-athlete is paramount. Signed, The NCAA

Ohio State played Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl. Nonetheless, here's an article about the NCAA's decision to allow players to play using the "it's the BCS, not us" argument... http://msn.foxsports...analysis-010411 And multiple sources didn't buy the whole "Cam didn't know" argument either... http://msn.foxsports...colleges-110910 But since you brought up Oregon, heck, let's look at their issues too... http://sports.yahoo.com/news/oregon-ducks-football-latest-facing-alleged-ncaa-violations-215600792.html

I haven't read into the extent of their crap, but teams don't randomly become awesome like they did without selling a bit of their soul. Just a matter of time til we find out Saban and the Crimson Tide have been cheating as well. FBS football is very corrupted now, which is just unfortunate considering football's place in the american sports world.

Are you telling me that there might be cheating going on in Alabama, home of MTV's Two-A-Days and Hoover High School's program run amuck? jodcon
Not related to the topic of this thread, but Montana native Ryan Leaf is back in the news: http://www.grandfork...group/homepage/ For some odd reason, the movie "The Longest Yard" comes to mind... Best line I've seen on this..."Showing the consistency he never did as a pro quarterback". What a disaster, gets busted...bailed out...busted again for the same thing 2 days later. He's even a worse criminal than he was a pro QB. Now it's time to stop holding his hand and send him to some combination of jail/rehab for a long stretch instead of giving him probation after probation so he actually has a chance to straighten his life out. Man this reminds me of the Jeff Dubay saga.
WILDCAT
Montana has alot of talent. There will probably be some defections from the most recent signing class, but they would likely have had minimal impact this season anyways. Alot of it depends on who is named interim Head Coach. Are there gonna be wholesale changes, or will one of Pflugard's assistants be annointed? North Dakota's playoff chances for the upcoming season were already very realistic. 4 Big Sky teams will make the playoffs next season. Montana St., Weber State, and some combination of Cal Poly, EWU, and/or North Dakota. Fixed it

jodcon
Throw a federal investigation into the mix too ... http://www.nytimes.c...montana.html?hp I wonder how many different investigations are currently going on, there's a lot of factions involved looking at different incidents and the people involved and how or if they were reported...but it's all pretty confidential right now so nobody knows anything. What a mess. A good lesson for other schools: If you don't get in front of something be prepared to drag it behind you to the Gates of Hell.
