College Football Program Sues to Force Conference Realignment

Quote

Per their official statement, “Today, Louisiana Tech took a necessary step in the best interest of its student athletes. When we joined Conference USA in 2013, its membership was different, its scheduling was different, and the landscape of college athletics was very different. Seven months ago, we notified CUSA of our intent to exit in July 2026. We have worked in good faith toward an amicable separation within conference bylaws. The proposed 2026 football schedule drafted by CUSA left us no choice but to pursue this remedy.

The University of West Florida is making a major announcement next week regarding the athletic department.  Rumor is that it a change of classification to Division I.

If true, I will have FCS football in my backyard.  They are currently building a new football stadium to seat 7500.

I have pointed out on another forum that UWF has a high school gym for basketball.  Definite upgrade required.

UWF has a really beautiful campus.

How big is their commitment to D1 football?   UND type commitment or Murray State type?   The last thing FCS needs right now is more Ne'er Do Wells.   Same thing can be said about D1 basketball except you can't use Murray State as an example, they seem competitive in BB.    How successful were they in D2 athletics?

wouldn't it be great if our centerman leaned over to wisco's centerman for the puck drop in vegas and said "wouldn't it be great if we played every year and it was a conference game?"...

then say it to michigan's centerman on saturday

You also need commitment, commitment, commitment.

Being in Florida doesn't guarantee you success.

And lots of other schools with their hands out.

but they have never had their hands out...you might be surprised how much money will be there by just asking.

I don't doubt that.

But you need to have a plan in place. Some institutions move up to Division I with no plan on how to be successful and it ends up being a dumpster fire.

Florida does have more than it's share of millionaires, but also has a number of large established universities.  So the money gets spread out a bit.  UWF has only been around since 1963 and has really only grown a lot in the last 20-25 years.  UWF was NAIA until 1994 and have only had football since 2016.  They won the D2 football national championship in 2019.
