Here's something that isn't speculation, get off your high horse and stop judging people. Especially in a difficult time. Just because you have a jerk opinion, doesn't mean you need to express it.

Can't hit the + button because I reached my quota for day.But thumbs up!

The speculationand rumours are pretty sickening to read. Perhaps Kristo's frostbite could have been treated in GF, so have any of you ever thought of the possibly that the Montreal Canadiens team offered up the services of a good city specialist to ensure a speedy and successful recovery. Let's wait for the rest of the story and in the meantime nothing but good wishes to Danny, "Get Well Soon Kid".

I don't think a college player can accept anything from a professional team until he has signed. I am guessing the NCAA would make him ineligible for accepting a gift.

Word is it's more than his feet. Hands and face as well. I think this one is a season ender folks, likely a career ender. He would not be in Mpls if this wasn't very serious.

Passed out in the snow.

Not good.

Not true.

Did you make this up or where are you getting this information from?

Best wishes Danny! When I was at UND in '89, my room mate, a D Lineman for the Sioux got frostbite on his face and hands after passing out on the steps of the Sigma Nu house. This sounds eerily similar.

True, they can't accept gifts, but the pro team can influence decisions related to medical care and often do so. They can't pay for it, but they can facilitate.

Here's something that isn't speculation. Danny has had numerous alcohol related incidents, and is often more intoxicated than he should be on a night where he is "celebrating". The writing on the wall here is that alcohol contributed to this sad and scary development. I wish Danny a speedy recovery and hope he is able to live as painless and normal life as he can after he heals from this injury. It seems like every year an alcohol related incident is coming out of this program, I understand "boys will be boys", but an issue as serious as this should serve as a wake up call to the program. Again I don't want to detract from the seriousness of the situation Danny finds himself in, I do wish however that the coaching staff and the team begin to promote and engage in more responsible behavior away from the rink.

Important to remember that alcohol on college campuses has been, and will always be, an issue. Hockey players, and all those who participate in elite activities, because of who they are, do get singled out when an incident occurs. However, there are kids in the dorms, frats, apts., etc. who are waaaaaaaaaaaaay out of bounds in terms of drinking and partying each weekend. That's all over America too, we all know that. I believe our coaches do all they can to make their players understand the role and the responsibility they have to those roles within the community. Sadly, the message doesn't always register. This young man need to heal up so that life can continue and become normal again. Prayers for him, please!!!

i sure hope the best for danny kristo...i really do. my question is....how important is hockey to these guys? do they think that their talent alone will bring them a national championship? i believe they have the talent to hang another banner in the rafters but to go and do something stupid like this is dumb. i know i am going to get ripped on for my comment but really, celebrating a 2 point weekend over CC? who by the way is in 7th place! hardly worth celebrating in my opinion. i'll celebrate like that after we win number 8!

best of luck to kristo, he will need it!

That is exactly what I was suggesting,

Regardless of how Danny got into this situation, as many have posted, is speculation. The concerns is how much frostbite and the severity of the frostbite are we looking at?

If it is just his toe, and though a very serious situation, the concern is the integrity of circulation. If it is just isolated to his toe, at worst he may be looking at an amputation (again, just the last option for a physician), but if the circulation is compromised above the toe, that opens up a whole case of possible scenarios which most are not all that great. But again, we just don't know that much at this time.

Often times we compare frostbite to that of a diabetic foot when it comes to circulation, so it will be treated similarly.

The first part of his medical care will be with restoring/maximizing circulation and preventing infection to his foot, and then movement, and then possible weight-bearing. This whole process can take up to 2 weeks to even several months.

So let's just hope and pray that the area and time of exposure was small, and that Danny will be able to walk out of the hospital in due time.

... do something stupid ... celebrating a 2 point weekend over CC...

Please, share the source of your information. No one here, to date. knows the facts of this situation but you and others post as if your info is a well known fact. Where are you getting this information?

common sense comes into play here....if you are sober more than likely you are dressed for the occasion, hell you wouldn't even go out in the cold if you were sober! if you are drunk or have been drinking you lose most of your common sense and start doing things you normally wouldn't do. i'm not saying my information is correct but lets not all act like naive mothers here who think their kids don't do anything wrong. yes, i could be wrong and hopefully i am wrong but i am not that naive to think that alcohol was not involved.

Without reinforcing any rumors or any speculation. I feel the need to comment on this:

These young men are under a lot of pressure...full class load, team practice, individual practice, trainer, team meetings, travel, game prep, then basic life issues of a 18-24 year old. I certainly blew off some steam a couple times a week back in college without half of the pressure these guys are under.

At the risk of being redundant, you have no idea as to the circumstances of this. No idea. Nor do I. It's obviously an unfortunate situation that has resulted in the young man being severely (again, to what level we do not know) affected. I suppose if it makes you feel better to unknowingly speculate as to the cause of his injuries, that is your prerogative.

So, in other words, you don't know anymore than has been reported by the press release. You just elect to post your opinion as if it were the truth with no thought how your 'facts' will affect him, his family, teammates or friends. Nice going.

By the way, many sober people going about their activities of daily living outside, dressed appropriately for the weather, get frost bite. This is fact.

many people who are sober also dont get airlifted to regions hospital for frost bite, altru has a nice frostbite unit here in town.

I don't think anyone is saying they know the circumstances surrounding the frostbite, but simply that given the time of day, his age, certain reported wording such as he was "found", and other known things such as alcohol's well-known ability to mask feelings of frostbite, that there appears to be a good chance alcohol was involved.

What percent of individuals with severe frostbite suffered the injury while intoxicated? What is your source? There is a time and place to express baseless assumptions and opinions. This is neither the time nor place.

Whether you are right or wrong in your assumptions is irrelevent. Mr. Kristo is in a tough spot right now and needs support whether or not he had a lapse in good judgment. I know I'm in no position to judge him, bully for you if you are.

What is the point in speculating and spreading rumors? It doesn't matter how he got into this mess, what is going to matter is how he comes out of it. No matter how it happened or where he is being treated, frostbite is extremely serious. He could be back to normal in a week or two, or he could end up losing his toes and never playing hockey again. None of us know. Out of respect for Danny and his family, lets stop with the rumors, and start being positive and hopeful.

here is the circumstances, HE HAS FROSTBITE AND HE WAS AIRLIFTED TO REGIONS IN ST. PAUL where the specialize in FROSTBITE CARE. there are THREE degrees of frostbite, 1st, 2nd and 3rd degree. Altru here in town is capable of handling the first two AND THAT IS A FACT. the cause of how he got it is undetermined, with many people guessing how it happened. MY GUESS IS ALCOHOL WAS INVOLVED and if you want to get pissed at me for guessing alcohol was involved than get pissed but like i said i am not some naive mother who thinks their kids do no wrong. i've been in college, we all know that the sports kids get away with a lot (because they play a high prolific sport) but to think that they do no wrong is plain dumb. look at everyone who has gotten into trouble at UND in the past.

Matt Greene = DUI in Warroad

Matt Frattin = Two alcohol related incidents (cleaned himself up though and im happy for him)

Joe Finley = Of age but was out throwing crap onto a street

Robbie Bina = DUI, arrested at Judys

Jonathan Towes = Minor, arrested at Judys

Danny Kristo = Minor

TJ Oshie = arrested at Judys

i know all this information has been kicked up in the past but to sit behind a computer and say think alcohol is not involved in this situation and past situations than you have got to be the most naive person i have ever talked to.

like i said i hope kristo comes out of this okay and people learn a lesson from this.

This is all beginning to seem like something that is truly very tragic. I'm definitely praying for Danny and his family. Most of all, I'm thankful for Danny and his family that it doesn't at this point sound life-threatening. Regardless of the non-life-threatening medical outcome, Danny can learn from this and go on to have a good and meaningful life -- with or without hockey. Ultimately, it's Danny's life apart from hockey that is most important here (although people tend to forget this fact when a star athlete is involved).

Really? I didn't know Altru has a 'frostbite unit'. When was that implemented? Altru does have a wide range of specialists. Sometimes they are short a specialist or two because of retirement, the doc left, illness, vacation, etc. Many patients and/or their families elect to get treatment elsewhere; even sober ones get airlifted to different facilities. Sometimes they get airlifted to as far away as Fargo! Reasons vary from availability of a particular specialist, personal preferance for a larger city hospital, a particular physician or department, proximity to family, PRIVACY, etc.

NO ONE has said alcohol is not involved. NO ONE here knows if alcohol is involved. What we are saying to all the rumor mongers, is, don't post speculations/lies/rumors/ fairy tales, etc as if they are facts. Think before you post. Think about the impact of your words to Danny, his family, his friends, and his teammates. If you don't care, well carry on....I've got high boots and a shovel!
