I just want to make it loud and crystal clear that you don't support the state of ND.

What's your point here? Big A HG is not from North Dakota. Why does it matter whether or not he supports other schools in the State. If I went to school at the University of North Carolina and became a big fan of their basketball program, I would cheer them on and support them. If they did not make the NCAA tournament, but say another school from North Carolina does (such as Duke or NC State), do you think I'm going to cheer/support Duke/NC State because they are a school from the same state as the University of North Carolina? I could care less how other schools from North Carolina did in the tournament and in some cases (Duke) I would cheer against them because they are a rival.

Personally, I am a North Dakota native, UND Grad, and UND fan. I was passively cheering for NDSU to win and make it to the tournament. I would even like to see them win a game or two. Not all UND fans feel the same way for various reasons...

That's fine if you don't support the other schools from NC. That just means you don't support NC as a state.

I'm all in favor of supporting North Dakota as a state. I don't need to cheer for NDSU to do that.

If you actually cared about ND as a state, then you would root for a fellow North Dakota school when they're on a national stage, representing North Dakota.

I know I will be rooting for NDSCS at their national JC tournament and rooting for UND during the WCHA tournament and NCAA tournament.

Clearly you do not care for ND as a state, which you already admitted.

Their one game they'll get in the tourney has no bearing on supporting ND. North Dakota, as a state, shouldn't have to rely on NDSU b-ball, nore me cheering for NDSU.

Good for you. You are the superfan of North Dakota. I'm sure there are a lot of bison fans who won't be cheering for them so go share your infinate wisdom about state support with them. Please, hurry. Don't respond just go. They could really use this same lecture. Think about how strong the state will be when you bring everyone together. Another question, if you don't support North Dakota does that mean you don't support the USA? I mean how can you not support a team in the country that you live.

Oh heck no! You keep him. We had to put up with several years of this crap. It's your turn. You know those weapons of mass destruction we couldn't find? Yep, been hiding here all along. Maybe in five or six years we'll consider taking him back. You can hold out for that long, right?

Good lord hammer five or six years. This has to be another form of pressure by the NCAA to drop the Fighting Sioux name and logo. It might be working on me. I'm about ready to crack. Maybe SDSU wants him. :silly:

Any time any team from ND is playing on a national stage, representing the state of North Dakota, then you are either supporting them because you support ND or you aren't.

That's FINE if you don't support ND. You already admitted you're Wisconsin red and white, through and through.

Where is it written if you live in ND that you have to support the Bison in the playoffs or you don't support the state of ND.

I think that is silly. Especially if you are a UND grad and Sioux fan. I could care less if they lose their first game.

Exactly. Like I stated in a previous post NDSU is our rival and I hope they lose in their first game.

Yikes that doesn't make me un North Dakota.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. That is a silly argument.

OK, I'll be sure to support our weather when it gets national attention as well....I'd hate to not support our blizzards because it'd be so un-North Dakotan of me.

I didn't realize the weather was a team representing ND in a national tournament?

Goon, you not caring about teams that represent the state will not stop me from cheering on NDSCS and UND in their national tournaments!

I cheer for all teams that represent ND!

That is your choice, I don't even watch Basketball and could care less how far the Bison go in the NCAA tourney.

That doesn't mean I am anti-North Dakota just means I could care less about the Bison. I do my share to thin the

Duck, Goose, Pheasant and Deer populations in the state of ND. I pay taxes to my city and my state so I am hardly

anti-ND.

I wonder if TA&M cheers for UT when UT plays Oklahoma? Probably not, A&M probably cheers for OU.

Or how about U of FLorida cheering for U of Miami when the canes play other teams from outside the state....probably not

C'mon people. These are sports, Not politics or a matter of STATE Pride.

I really like the weather comment...."Long live the bad weather!" Down with Sunny weather!....

Guys, cheer for whom ever you want, just don;t make it a State pride thing. It is just a bunch of kids playing sports.

That is what makes College sports special. A bunch of kids, playing for the love of the game. Trust me, at no point in my career did I play for the state of North Dakota, I played for the Sioux and the Sioux only. We played Minot and were happy beating them to a pulp. No state pride there...And of course, we LIVED to beat NDSU. Plain and simple.

I said it was acceptable to cheer for UND when they were playing against NDSU, for example. Or any other in-state team, obviously.

You will not support a team from North Dakota that is representing the state on the national stage, regardless of what sport it is.

That's what you admit. So be it.

I am not going to support NDSU and that has nothing to do with state pride. I have no obligation to cheer for the Bison. Good luck cheering for your mid major team that is going to get bounced by a 1 or 2 seed. The Lambs going to the slaughter.

Wow!

I'm not from North Dakota (Minnesota actually) and I live in Maryland (just outside DC) but I did attend UND for awhile. My wishing NDSU well has nothing to do with supporting the state of North Dakota as these are individuals playing the game and not the state. I think when your prime rival does well, it encourages you to do better. This has been seen in how NDSU's women's basketball team won national championships, it encouraged UND to get better. Likewise, when conference members win a national championship, teams strive to get up to that level.

As far as the statement about Rush; he feels, probably correctly, that Obama wishes to create a more socialistic society (hard liners say Soviet-style) rather than the successful individualistic society that has been our nation's trademark and he is opposed to the politics that create a socialistic society. He wishes Obama to fail in getting his goal of creating this socialistic society; this is not the same as wishing the country to fail. Certainly this is more honest than Vice-President Biden's comment a week before the election that he didn't want the democratic party's supporters to do them (Obama) what they had done to the Bush administration for the last eight years. This is not the place for national politics but people can have different views; this doesn't make them bad people. Shame on you for bringing national politics into the discussion.

Likewise, I like to see the little guy do well. Who knows when NDSU (or UND) will ever make it to this stage again. Let the kids enjoy it.

That may be true on the court. Bigger picture, NDSU is going to get the kind of national PR and marketing that we can only dream about right now. You have to respect what's gone on in Fargo the last five years. The first time a first-year eligible team has made the tournament since Long Beach fourty years ago? Are you kidding me? Too many things have gone right during their transition for this to be an accident or fluke. I hope our leadership is taking notes and reaching out where and when appropriate.

I see the point your are making, but for the people to say that because we don't support NDSU in the NCAA tourney we some how aren't pro-ND.

That is down right silly. I do wonder if our administration is paying attention to the process it takes to get to the next level? That is a fair question.
