UND92,96 Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 Mounds View Offensive lineman Billy Turner has verbaled to NDSU. www.areavoices.com/bisonmedia - I noticed they only have 1 offensive lineman left that has an offer on their board, any ideas on how many they will try to sign or who they might be showing increased interest in due to the commitments of guys to other schools? I'm not sure how solid of a commitment Turner is, as the following link from the Pioneer Press indicates NDSU may be the favorite but doesn't mention any commitment: http://www.twincities.com/ci_13776525?source=most_emailed I would expect UND to sign a number of offensive linemen as per usual--at least four. UND92,96 Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 here is the link to Billy's commitment I'm aware that he apparently committed about a week ago, but it seems odd that he didn't mention the commitment in an article posted yesterday by one of his hometown newspapers. That's why I question how solid the commitment is. When all is said and done, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at Northern Iowa (where his brother plays). Quote
UNDvince97-01 Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 I'm aware that he apparently committed about a week ago, but it seems odd that he didn't mention the commitment in an article posted yesterday by one of his hometown newspapers. That's why I question how solid the commitment is. When all is said and done, I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at Northern Iowa (where his brother plays). I came across a video interview on the Prep Sports section of the Star Tribune website of Billy Turner after Mounds View's section playoff win against Roseville on October 31st. They eventually ask him about his recruitment and I find it interesting at the least that he mentions us first when naming schools. Maybe it was an accident, maybe not. I realize that a week after the interview, Hallstrom reported his verbal to ndsu on his blog, but I don't think we should stop recruiting this kid given the fact that his "verbal" seems so uncertain and awfully soft. Has any other media outlet besides the bison blog reported the verbal from Turner? The article that 92,96 linked and posted came 6 days after the Hallstrom blog post. It mentions ndsu and Northern Iowa as the leaders in that article, but doesn't quote the kid as saying he has verballed to ndsu. Maybe he does end up at UNI or ndsu eventually, but I'm not sure we shouldn't stay on him. Quote

Great young man. Heard a week or two ago on Bisonville (maybe not the most reliable source, but they are normally on top of their recruiting like a hawk) that Miller to UND was pretty much a done deal. I hope that's the case as it sounds like he has some skills. Quote

I think getting Miller would be huge. He absolutely tore up ND AAA the last 2 yrs. I'd like to see him stay at RB... he has great moves & really follows his blocks well. Hopefully, if he ends up here, he'll put on 20+ lbs during the redshirt yr. Depending on position needs, he could be a great WR. The kid is a playmaker whenever he touches the ball. Quote

UND92,96 Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Pioneer Press has come out with their all state team. Interesting that Crookston jr. LB Brody Davidson made the team, as you don't normally expect kids from not-especially-good teams from northwest MN to get a lot of recognition state-wide. Some of the names I'm especially interested in from this list are John Crockett from Totino-Grace, Shea Walker from Cretin (h.s. teammate of Kleason and Binns), and Matt Michaelson from Pequot Lakes. Today's Herald also carries the AP Minnesota All-State Team which includes several 1st-team players previously listed as possible UND recruiting targets, including OL Walker, DB Daryl Brown (Wayzata) and LB Gabe Mezzenga (Totino-Grace). I wonder if there are any players from either list who could provide some help at WR. Always need local/area recruits, and I see both Pioneer-Press and AP list Davidson and OL Steve Widner (Sr., Stephen-Argyle) on their second teams. The AP also includes OL Andrew Muer (Sr., Perham) on its second team. Anyone know anything about these kids? Quote
