  1. Lots of compliments about him from the Utah fans as we were leaving the stadium. They were impressed with his ability to move, and his decision-making. He didn't look to be at all fazed by being in that environment. We should have thrown more. Our "3-yd and a cloud of dust" offense wasn't getting us anywhere close 3 yards on most plays. Just couldn't get a good push up front - the Utes Dline was as advertised. Meanwhile, the middle of the field was open for tight ends and crossing routes. Do we have tight ends? Oh yeah, one scored our only TD....
  2. I know I'm late getting to this, but I just wouldn't feel right if I didn't give a big shoutout to the Utah Utes fans. My wife and I had a chance to meet and talk with a number of Utes fans before, during, and after the game and I'm not exaggerating at all to say that it was truly an uplifting experience. Walking through the tailgate lot before the game we had numerous people approach us to thank us for coming, to offer food, to tell stories (a few transplanted North Dakotans, etc.), and to offer us drinks. Too many drinks. I had to accept a few (just to be polite, of course...) but if I had accepted them all I never would have made it to the game. The fans were gracious, welcoming - and knowledgeable. They knew our team, commented on our strong running game and defense, and were truly concerned about how their team would perform against the Hawks. Even after the game, we had multiple people make positive comments about the team and how good they looked, and that we'd win a lot of games in the Big Sky this year. Several went out of their way to mention Keaton Studsrud and what a heady and effective player he was. So, thanks, Utes fans - for making our trip to Utah an amazing experience - despite the verdict on the scoreboard.
  3. Thanks - we are excited to make the trip to Salt Lake City and really appreciate all the info you and the other Ute fans have posted. One request: Could you reduce the game time temperature to something in the 70s instead of the high 80s? Thanks!
  4. I know I'm a little late to chime in on this, but I'm told the team does test randomly during the season. If you're going to have a guy make a dumb decision and ends up testing positive, you don't want to wait until after a playoff game to find out.
  5. Me, too.... and Teeder - you can say that your updates aren't necessary with the other people covering the team, but I'll say that I like your updates the best. You cover more ground and you're not trying to write stories, just observations on what you see and updates on what you've learned. Don't get me wrong, I think the other guys do a good job - but they're different, and you fill a niche that they don't. If you get tired of writing them and need a break, that's one thing - but if you don't do an update because you think others have it covered, please reconsider!
  6. I heard that he is in fact done. Was shared with the team on Friday after he had some tests done over spring break. It's a shame to see.
  7. I can confirm that in at least one coach's case. They deserve to have some swagger, but arrogance will come back to bite.
  8. That's too bad. Nice kid, great fun to watch on the field, terrible injury - I wish him the best.
  9. I do know he's scheduled to visit soon - not certain of the date. He has options in both football and track & field so I think he's weighing his choices. The visit will be important.
  10. Four year extension for Bubba. Go Hawks!
  11. Big kid - national champion weightlifter, hard-worker and extremely coachable. I've seen him play both hoops and football since about 5th grade. He'd be a good fit for UND. Based on the last time I saw him, 305 lbs. is not a stretch. His older brother is throwing the hammer for Gopher track & field, so that may be a factor.
  12. I didn't book my plane tickets to Salt Lake City this far out just to see UND "hang with Utah." I'm excited for 2017 and what this team can become. Who wants to join me at Rice-Eccles next September to cheer on a Hawks win?
  13. I realize I'm jumping in on this a little late, but I'd disagree. It seemed like quite often the safeties were close to the line of scrimmage and the corners were matched up in man-to-man against some pretty big and athletic receivers. The long TD was a clear mistake in coverage - and there was no safety help at all on that play. The long completion at the end of the game - Hunt was right where he needed to be and made a good play on the ball. A taller receiver went up and snagged the ball over the top of Hunt. It was a great play by the WR and a great throw by the QB. The CBs were trusted to do a lot on their own - and overall did a pretty good job. The missed FG, the blocked punt, the running into the kicker - those all stand out to me as the plays that made the difference in the game.
  14. The limit is 60. I'm not sure about when/if that list needs to be released in advance.
  15. After watching Richmond on Saturday my impression is "very good but beatable." We have to run well, and especially avoid 3rd and long situations. Their offense was pretty balanced and that big back can do some damage. We also have to be on the good side of the turnover ratio. Basic, standard stuff. I like our chances - especially at home.
  16. Richmond comes right back and gets a FG to answer. 26-10 for the Spiders.
  17. Big play by A&T to start the half. Can't convert on 3rd down from the 11. FG makes it 23-10 for Richmond.
  18. I wish I'd have checked this thread before buying my tickets. I went to Ticketmaster and did the "best seats available option." To get two seats together they would have been near the end zone and pretty high up. I ended up buying two single seats one row apart in section 203. I didn't even think to wait until season tix were released. Oh well - I'll be in the building, which is good enough for me! Go Hawks!
  19. Thanks, Colter. Great to have a quick way to catch up on the Big Sky!
  20. I don't have the history that a lot of folks here do, but honestly for pure drama this year's first and last home games can hardly be beat. The Hawks had bad first halves in both games and were somehow able to wake up the offense and score on defense in the second halves. Those are the kind of games that turn casual fans into big-time fans - me included!
  21. I was at the game on Saturday and got a chance to talk to Clive. He said he's planning to come back. It didn't sound like the medical redshirt had been officially approved, but he was pretty confident that it would be. He was still on crutches but said he can now put weight on the leg that was broken. Overall he was pretty upbeat and looking forward to football again.
  22. Taubenheim's struggles are really concerning as this team gets ready for a playoff run. We may need him to win a game for us - he's got to start hitting those kicks consistently and get some confidence back.
  23. Whew. That Taubs FG looked wide left on the webcast. 13-7 Hawks.
