  1. Fantastic news - she's a local treasure we need to embrace more. VERY COOL THING a local lady has a Food Network Show that mentions GF all the time and is investing in us. We need to show her some love too! Can't wait to see what she does. BTW - Sickies is another Fargo restaurant that "tried" GF but bailed out in favor of expanding in the magical METRO market - they were never that good (marginal hamburgers) and are officially dead to me wherever I go in the future - just like Hornbachers as a grocery store.
  2. Congrats! Easy to confuse news with booze but I'll leave that for you figure out Scoop! Not really news actually - it's been out there... The BIG reason Forum/WDAY got NDSU is they've waived the big bucks and promised exclusivity for NDSU. MIdco also bid for NDSU but NDSU didn't want to have to associate with "lesser" entities like USD, SDSU and UND and share time on MIdco Sports. They think they're SO SPECIAL they deserve their own dedicated channel and they got it - so then why is Forum/WDAY considering bidding for UND??? How does NDSU feel about WDAY bidding for UND sports and (gasp) SHARING? MORE IMPORTANTLY - NDSU feels like they haven't gotten all they've been promised by WDAY (Extremely disappointed in some conversations from what I hear) - bad production effort and values? cheaping out big time (1 camera VB broadcasts?) - EGO clashes between Dom and nDUMBERsu? NDSU isn't happy and now WDAY thinks they can do UND right? they are stupidly wrong... Just a reminder - Midco upgraded UND sports broadcasts across the board from the start with quality and investment. Remember when "forum/wdaz" wouldn't even pay for a penalty box clock on the broadcast? Midco did that from day 1! There is literally an office of employees at Midco that work their asses off making sure all UND sport broadcasts are ABOVE regional standards for most if not all local schools. That's a good thing that should be rewarded!! I'm confident UND recognizes the value they've had for a decade and will want to stay with it. I would hope UND fans would agree.
  3. CONFIRMED from a solid source - buy land now (it's not going to get any cheaper) Plans to build a new Sanford hospital in GF in 5 years forthcoming....stay tuned
  4. Could be the ultimate spot for a PEPPERJAX!! (fingers crossed) The Sioux Falls sandwich shop that Hornbachers' cock-blocked then they left town - BBBBOOOO!!!!! Boss Pizza has been a great add to the GF Food scene - we welcome ALL newcomers! Aldi's is great for bargains btw. Not a substitute for your regular grocery store but a nice diversion for great deals.
  5. Super! No Bank wanted that location?
  6. Speaking of the Moon - what happened there? Anyone still go there? Hadn't been there in years even before covid after we had a bad experience but I recently thought - oh I miss them! I'll do an order online. Started with it but an order of ConQueso and went on to their pizza menu...it quickly hit $45 with no delivery charges added yet - WTF? I canceled and can live without...is their food anything like it used to be anymore? I see they're still open but dead to me.
  7. I agree. It's a prime downtown corner location perfect for retail but i think it fills a space for now. Hopefully it will turn into a great spot when the Epic/Lyons/St Johns and OliveAnn hotel projects come together and downtown can really get rocking like Sioux Falls. All of this takes time and downtown has gone in fits and spurts but it WILL be worth the investment when it all comes together. We have all the pieces of the puzzle - it's still needs to be put together. Patience is the key.
  8. The Ramada in GF I think- heard good things so I will try.
  9. It's not really a "walk-in" retail location. It's where interior decorators invite clients to privately view sinks and other high priced tubs and such when they're doing renovations. Tell me about it - we went there for a kitchen renovation last year but I have to say the giant stainless steel farm sink we chose was a BRILLIANT choice (thanks wife) I doubted her but it's the size of Montana and we can wash everything in it. VIVA Covid for home renovations! Love our new kitchen and recommend Elle Interiors - they were amazing!
  10. Back to the subject at hand - the New Famous Dave's Quick 'Cue on Columbia. First time I went was for lunch only to realize (along with 3 or 4 other potential customers walking up at the same time) They AREN'T OPEN FOR LUNCH! Sign says 3pm so...wah WAHHHH. (Jersey Mikes has great subs so no real loss) Went there Friday AFTER 3pm and it was interesting. The entrance makes it look tiny but there is a SIT DOWN entrance and TAKE OUT entrance and the place is bigger than you would think with sit-down areas on both sides. Got a 6 rib slab with 2 sides (and cornbread) for $21 bucks and it was good but not great. I know some gourmets think "falling off the bone" ribs are actually overcooked but these were still on the bone - cooked but with gelatinous fat still on the bone that left me thinking - "another half an hour on the smoker would have been a good compromise" Dave's sauces are good. Their beans are amazing and Mac and Cheese okay but a little watery. Satisfied but it's spendy for what you get. I want to branch out and try some of the burnt ends and wings and other items. A good addition to GF but it doesn't blow you away. I've never tried BIgFoot BBQ so I'd be curious is anyone else has?
  11. I think the new Hugo's downtown sells bandages for your bleeding knuckles. The immortal JT from KNOX once said it best..."if it's really art why isn't is hanging on the wall? I don't get it." (again - no further questions your honor) Art is in the eye of the beholder. My wife and I just got back from a weekend getaway to Sioux Falls. Their downtown is rocking - and has public art everywhere. We stayed in a cool boutique hotel downtown - had tons of restaurants, cool shops, and antique stores within easy walking distance. They invested and it's paying off in spades! GF is trying and is making progress - we can do it but all the bitching and frankly, JEALOUSY, about who's getting what isn't helping. We're lucky to have an artist like Dave Badman here. "mrBIG" gfhockey adds only heat and no light to the GF economy despite acting like he's the !@#$...why don't you tell us what you've brought to GF we can appreciate? You've turned on-line complaining into a full time job - thanks - not!
  12. It's public art - you don't have to pay for it - why do you care? Or would you like to solve the puzzle Pat?
  13. OK bad prediction - Congrats DU! Another NCHC Champ but we're coming after #9 as soon as we get our Karma together - whenever that will be! PS - forget to mention the PRIME STEEL CAR SHOW Is also this weekend at the Purp. Major sponsor is RYDELL so ANOTHER reason to turn out BIGTIME for another HUGE GF BUSINESS that totally supports UN...oh wait...no they don't...wow. I know several former UND players who bought their cars there. SAD!
  14. UND Wacipi/PowWow is this weekend! It's a chance for all you people who hang on to the Sioux nickname/Sioux Jerseys like grim death to act like you give a sh*t about the (actual) history!! It would give some validity to those hanging on to a nickname that has been officially retired. Maybe there still is a chance? Or you could just embrace the new nickname? It's easy to see - the hockey gods are confused by chanting for one team while another is on the ice. Fortune favors the brave - not the stubborn - or the privileged. There were 40 NHL draft picks among the 4 teams in the Frozen Four. The 2 B10 TEAMS in the semi's had 27 picks combined and LOST! Mn State Mankato has 1 - mark it here first they will win their first NC! Not because they are an A list of great players or have a classic nickname - they just have IT - the intangible combination of goaltending and hot players at the right time like UND's 1990's NC teams! Congrats Purple Cows! National Champs! PS - Tickets for the Wacipi still available on Ticketmaster for true Sioux fans.
  15. Sanford will confirm the rumors of a new hospital by saying "It's ALL TRUE!" (sorry couldn't resist) That's some of the most expensive land in GF - you don't buy 67 acres to put up a couple clinics. Altru !@#$ their pants and payed out a ton to buy out their other potential competitor (Remember "Doctors Hospital"?) several years ago? Now they're doubling down by re-starting the new hospital construction with the original 7 story building plans and not the scaled down building. Competition is coming to GF Healthcare and should be good for consumers.
  16. It's a little interesting they identify with being in "Grand Forks" but their farm is one of the last on 220 heading north out of EGF. Not a big deal - I assume they think Grand Forks is one community no matter what side of the river you live on. I'm fine with that. They've shown local activities like the Xmas Holiday Light Parade and other local events on the show - you'd think local marketers would watch to hitch their wagon to her star a little more than they have but that's just me. We're lucky to have them in the community.
  17. That article is from 8 years ago but the ribs are still really good - wife and I ate there a couple weeks ago. It's worth the drive to Euclid. Falling off the bone tender and the sauce has just a little something something different that makes it really good. Word is Molly Yeh and her hubby are part of an effort to turn the old Whiteys/Sicky's Burgers into a bakery/restaurant. She just had their second child and she's very active on the Food Network with a couple different shows now plus they just finished a giant addition to their home in EGF so she has a lot of irons in the fire. "Girl meets Farm" airs Sunday mornings at 10am on Food Network. Don't watch hungry.
  18. Two things to be sad about tonight.... RIP Kim Holmes of Sanders - Weird thing is I just asked a buddy about him the other day - A GF Icon who will be sorely missed. Saw a sign on ThaiHot3 on DeMers that says "Closed until further notice" Don't know what that means but not good. BEST Sushi in town and if you ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice it actually came in a real pineapple boat. Their bottled hot sauce was also amazing. Please come back...
  19. Steve Brekke is involved with that - they got it right with drive through lanes that are wide-enough to drive a big pickup through - smart!
  20. I was told there would be no Lacrosse!
  21. No it's going to be what GF doesn't need - another F*CKING bank! What's more attractive for a new bank than a former Denny's? IT IS for one Bank - love to see who it is. Maybe a dollar store will close so they can have a new branch - we'll see. BTW - The NorthSide Cafe is now open at the old Suite 49 location by the Ralph. Great food with a updated menu! Give them a shot - had lunch/breakfast there the other day - it was great! Try the stuffed hashbrowns - crazy good!
  22. The steaks RULED - the salad and sides were OK - thing was you had to duck the leaks from the ceiling. If you looked up they actually had buckets hanging to catch the drips during the final days. The story is one day is all went too far one day and part of the ceiling collapsed on diners. The health department was called in and the rest is history. GLAD the HOE saved the sign too! Still wonder where the Highlander signed ended up? That was a keeper too.
  23. Word is Elias Dean of Steers fame is turning the old Scottys Deli into an Asian/Fusion place - could be an interesting add to the GF food scene.
  24. I'm guessing the latter:-)
  25. They make a clock for people like her. It's embarrassing...
