  1. Nominated for post of the year. I hope as you stepped off your soapbox, you dropped the mic!
  2. The now immortalized words of Lowell Schweigert will be used to remind Roughriders supporters that (paraphrasing here) -sometimes the popular choice is not the right choice. Roughriders supporters will then be ridiculed on Siouxsports for their "wrong" opinion, and will be told to move on. Sound familiar?
  3. Augh, more proof all the good ones are taken!
  4. I'm wondering why Fighting Slapnuts didn't make the final list.
  5. This is silly. Not everyone has reached the level of social interaction ineptitude where they use thumbs up or thumbs down on the internet, and then feel as if they've accomplished something. For the record I like UND, but haven't bothered to "like" the UND Facebook page, either.
  6. I agree and have said so on here numerous times. The scare tactic about merchandise and marketability is just that- a scare tactic.
  7. As I told a friend a couple weeks ago, we have 7 wheelbarrows in front of us. Each is made of pure gold. Six of the seven have varying levels of horse manure in them, and the seventh is empty. Given your choice of wheelbarrows, which one would you choose? Now, sadly, the Maleficent Seven have been reduced to the Fancrapstic Five, and all five wheelbarrows contain manure, and the flies are on their way.
  8. And to add to this, we've already done this with ND nicknames. Twice. Time for a change.
  9. True. Although i'd argue Oregon State's Beavers were actually from Oregon. (they weren't beavers that a New York politician recruited from the states of Arizona, Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.)
  10. I agree- let's just rally around whichever name I decide I like the best- that makes the most sense from my point of view.
  11. Maybe I've missed some info lately....But....If the committee's job is done now anyway, what was the point of the threat to disband the committee if 'North Dakota' remained on the list to hand in to the El Presidente?
  12. I haven't read the nickname threads for about 3 weeks....what a pleasant 3 weeks it has been. I would have voted North Dakota if it was still an option assuming we get a vote. I don't understand the vitriol directed at those that would've voted for North Dakota. It's not accurate to assume everyone of us are fighting Sioux forever fanatics. It's also inaccurate to believe fighting Sioux chants and support will disappear whether a new name was chosen or not. A few reasons I liked North Dakota- 1. Unique, 2. Indirectly tells the PC and NCAA to pound sand. 3. The selection process has been a disaster leaving only generic and poor options. Now that North Dakota is off the table I'll move forward and support one of the other options....I'm leaning towards anything that doesn't risk portraying UND as racist white cowboys, or honor an inaccurate representation of North Dakota history, or shares its name with a condom, or will be shortened and be the same as a brand of Mom Jeans sold by Lee. Hmmm.... I guess my list is down to 4.... :-)
  13. Would the definition of a traveling trophy also include any information about one side unilaterally refusing to travel 70 miles?
  14. Sorry if the facts I stated about the origin of the state flag conflict with what you claimed, and your agenda. I will try to be more sensitive to your needs in the future.
  15. The state flag of North Dakota was chosen to honor the 1st North Dakota Infantry. They were a regiment of volunteers from and organized in North Dakota, so it made sense to honor them. The Roughriders and many other cavalry units in the country carried the same flag; it was quite popular as it is an important symbol of the U.S.A. There are enough misconceptions out there about the Roughriders and their mythic link to North Dakota; let's not insult the memory of the 1st North Dakota Infantry by claiming the state flag was chosen to honor the Roughriders.
  16. Nice post. When there are people thinking the Great Seal of the United States of America on a flag is somehow uniquely Roughriders and uniquely North Dakota and makes a nice logo, God help us.
  17. In regard to official- I'm haying. Look it up for yourselves.
  18. Well....no..... Not every state has several official/unofficial nicknames that would work well as a university nickname. We've already used two. Since all the choices left are rather weak, of those 7 North Dakota or nodaks are my preferred choices.
  19. In 1957, the legislature formally adopted Peace Garden State as the official nickname. (North Dakota Century Code, Section 39-04-12.) I'm not sure how much more official you can get. It seems every time I state a fact on here about the Roughriders myth, I get accused of being wrong, only to later prove i'm right. I guess that's how fairy tale legends of Roughriders being from North Dakota get spread. Bully!
