Unless those schools live in a cave, they will have heard. But if they do in fact live in a cave and we choose a new nickname, they will also be wasting valuable pre broadcast and broadcast time, talking about the" new" name, even if it's 5 years down the road due to their aforementioned cave dwelling lifestyle. So now the discussion has come full circle. Talking about new name/talking about no name = same amount of time spent talking about each. Glad we solved that. Thank you.

I disagree. I can't imagine a scenario where the other schools and the media repeatedly ask the same questions over and over again every few months. That's sort of the definition of insanity.

So if I'm reading this correctly, if UND goes forward without a nickname, valuable broadcast and pre broadcast time will be wasted. But, if UND does choose a nickname, zero time will be wasted, as no one from other schools will bother to ask about the new name or how it was chosen; it will be just business as usual and the new name will only be uttered as a last resort during the course of live game action. Got it.

You just answered your own question as to why he was put on the ice. Had nothing to do with the choice North Dakota still being on the nickname list at the time.

That's a far milder conspiracy theory than the one about our least favorite hockey ref, sending us a "message" from the NCAA that we better pick a name. Just saying- plenty of speculation from all sides.

Good post. But i'm confused; I thought new tshirts that said Roughriders or Sundogs would result in millions more from merchandise revenue, and would also guarantee success on the field, court, and rink because fans at the games wouldn't be discussing why we don't have a nickname..

The now immortalized words of Lowell Schweigert will be used to remind Roughriders supporters that (paraphrasing here) -sometimes the popular choice is not the right choice. Roughriders supporters will then be ridiculed on Siouxsports for their "wrong" opinion, and will be told to move on. Sound familiar?

This is silly. Not everyone has reached the level of social interaction ineptitude where they use thumbs up or thumbs down on the internet, and then feel as if they've accomplished something. For the record I like UND, but haven't bothered to "like" the UND Facebook page, either.

I agree and have said so on here numerous times. The scare tactic about merchandise and marketability is just that- a scare tactic.

As I told a friend a couple weeks ago, we have 7 wheelbarrows in front of us. Each is made of pure gold. Six of the seven have varying levels of horse manure in them, and the seventh is empty. Given your choice of wheelbarrows, which one would you choose? Now, sadly, the Maleficent Seven have been reduced to the Fancrapstic Five, and all five wheelbarrows contain manure, and the flies are on their way.

And to add to this, we've already done this with ND nicknames. Twice. Time for a change.
