NORTH DAKOTA vs. Air Force - Saturday Gameday
UND-RedSox fan replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
I hope this is the end of the Murphy experience. As long as St. Clair is healthy he is in. If not St. Clair then try Panzarella up at forward like last year. Just no more Murphy. Schmaltz and Caggiula both struggled with Murphy out there and then once Parks replaced him that line was awesome. -
Well Eichel just turned 18 two days ago, so he is pretty young as well. I don't think he will play a second year, but his situation seems to be pretty similar to Toews.

Does the Hockey Team Have a Disruptive Alcohol Culture?
UND-RedSox fan replied to Cratter's topic in Men's Hockey
In this article it mentioned that they pulled 9 individuals out to talk to them and only 2 were cited with anything. This makes me think they were just picking random people that weren't being obnoxious in the hope they would get to give out a minor. Last year a buddy of mine that is 25 was drinking a beer in between periods and a cop in plain clothes flashed his badge at him and made him stop. He wasn't being disruptive or a problem at all. Just standing there drinking a beer. I think this is bull$%!#. Even if he was underage them catching him helps absolutely no one except for collecting the unofficial tax on college students through minors. -
Anyone else think that they should have tried to send Gordon home last night? I think he would have gotten out but it would have been close. I think he had a better chance at scoring on that play than hoping for a second hit in a row off of Baumgarner.

NORTH DAKOTA vs. Air Force - US HALL OF FAME GAME
UND-RedSox fan replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Mattson is only noticeable when he screws up, which is a bit more often than I would like from a senior. I don't think he has gotten any better since his freshman season. I think Thompson should get another shot over Mattson at some point. -
There isn't a better option but I don't think maddon is looking for another small market team

I think the 3 point system for all games would be awesome. Hockey is making a concession for the casual fan with shootouts but all sports are making concessions for casual fans. Most diehard football fans love good defensive battles but the rules are being changed for more offense and the fantasy football fan. It's just the way things are going. Three point system would provide for incentive to win games before the shootout and less playing for ties. Not perfect but it would be better and would help solve the loser point problem.

I felt like we carried the puck more tonight but we still spent a lot of time "cycling" the puck. The big thing is we dominated controlling the puck along the boards. We repeatedly has battles for pucks behind the net but we were winning nearly all of them. There were multiple times where it was Chyzyk versus there whole team and Chyzyk came away with the puck. And then passes were made to high scoring chances.

I think you need to check your reading comprehension. He's not saying we beat a bad team. He's saying the average fan may not realize that the team we just dominated is as good as the goofs or BC. It's easy to overlook PC because very recently they were a bottom of the barrel hockey east team (much like Schlossman mentioned in his blog). When we scheduled PC it looked like we were going to get an UCONN caliber team and not a BC one. Again this is as good of a win as we've had in the last 3 years and I'm sure most fans would agree. It just doesn't feel like it immediately because Providence doesn't have the name recognition that BC, Minnesota, and Denver have.

This is the best I've seen a UND team play since I came to campus (the year after Frartin-Trupp-Malone was my first year at UND). It just goes to show the type of effort we need from this team. We dominated a legitimate top team in the country in PC exactly two weeks after getting completely dominated by a Bemidji team that won 10 games last year. BSU may be better than last year but they definitely aren't as good of a team as Providence. We chased a future NHL goalie tonight. Zane is as good as any other goalie in college hockey. His only weakness is dropping his stick and giving up one softie per game. Still we could have given up a goal or two in the first if we had any other goalie and who knows what happens if Zane doesn't stand tall for us early. We have 7 defenseman that could play every night. I'm a hockey novice but I feel like Matson is our weakest dman and he is far from a bad player. I think Panzarella is a good player, but it's unfortunate that he just doesn't fit in anywhere. Ladue and Schmaltz is the best defensive pairing in the country when Jordan seems interested in my opinion. It seems that we are also settling into having our forward lines set a lot earlier than we normally do. Poganski will get better but I don't know who he plays over as of right now. I can't think of a forward that I would take out of the lineup. Gaarder, St Clair, and Pattyn aren't super talented but they all are extremely hard workers and are great grinders. I was really low on this team after Benidji for the reason that I felt like the team we saw tonight is one of the best, if not the best team in the country and the one we saw against Bemidji was bad. I know that it's not possible to get a performance like this every night but I feel amazing knowing that this team can live up to the potential I felt for them coming into the season. I know sometime later this season (maybe even tomorrow) I'll be whining about our team, but the high from tonight is what makes sports fun for me. We showed tonight we have the ability to be great, we just need the effort.

We lost the second period and couldn't score an even strength goal. Unbelievable!
-
True, but I also think that college sports tend to be a little more predictable with who is going to be good and who isn't, on the extreme ends. Bemidji hasn't had a winning season since joining the WCHA. They won 0 out of conference games last year. Friday had a lot more to do with how poorly we performed and not with the Beavers having improved. I don't think the sky is falling just because we split with a team that I don't think is very good. At the end of the season I think we will look at this game much like we look at the St. Lawrence game last year. A bad loss to a middling team that motivates this team to playing the type of game they need to the rest of the season.

University of North Dakota Hockey 2014-15 season
UND-RedSox fan replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
I think the most blatant example of this was the BU kid two years ago. Players like MacWilliam are the exact reason why 5 minute majors need to be reviewed before being enforced. He received multiple 5 minute majors and ejections but they were mostly from good hard checks like the one on the Michigan Tech player two years ago. -
I'm curious as what people think the odds of bringing in Jost or Fabbro is.
-
I'm pretty sure we will. I didn't feel like I saw a Bemidji team that was any different than the team that won 10 games last year. We just showed up with the team that got whooped by St. Lawrence last year and not the team that outplayed the goofs in the frozen four.
-
You can't coach effort but you can play the right players that will bring effort always like St Clair. It just baffles me that he wasn't in. I don't know a player that plays harder than St Clair does.
-
And the 3 morons and a dumbass probably could tell that St Clair should be playing. One player probably wouldn't have changed anything but at least we would have had at least one player trying.

I never truly appreciated what we had with Nelson while he was at UND. How beautiful would have it been to see him play another year with Kristo and Knight. I've only really followed the Sioux since I first came to UND 5 years ago. My favorite players have been Malone, Trupp, Kristo, and MacWilliam in no particular order. If my arm was twisted I would have to say Malone is my favorite former player.

Sioux Jersey Fouls (or any other jersey, for that matter)
UND-RedSox fan replied to MafiaMan's topic in Men's Hockey
I have a new jersey and couldn't stand not having a number on it but didn't want any current player's name on it so I went with my own name. These new ones just look too bad without a number on it. -
Exactly. One of the first pieces of advice that I got from just about anyone I talked to was that your GPA and MCAT score would only matter for getting an interview or not. Once interviews started everyone was on even ground.

Middle of the day playoff games are really stupid. The NHL playoffs are the best sports in the world. They need to be in prime time.

For medical school they do reserve an additional number of spots, but it doesn't really take away from other more deserving students. If these spots are not filled then they go to no one. Right now the 75 most qualified students will get in and if some people apply for INMED (Indians in Medicine) then the class size will be larger than 75.

I think I could live with Marchand because he is such an annoying little prick it would become funny if he played for your favorite team. Lucic on the other hand is just a dick. I hate everything about him. Spearing people in the nuts, always trying to start a fight after the whistle or after any sort of hit, taking a run at anyone that laid a decent hit during the game. I really wanted to like the Bruins when I started following hockey closer three years ago because I was already a Red Sox and Patriots fan but Lucic completely ruins that team for me.

You could say the exact same thing about Fox News but for the right wing. That's why you shouldn't rely on one network for your news because they all have their own private agenda with MSNBC and Fox News being the two most obvious ones.
