University of North Dakota Hockey 2015-16 season
GDPritch replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Spot on, his elbow was tucked down by his waist. -
Wow, just viewed both clips and I'm no Goofers apologist (actually a hater) by any means but those were bad hits. I actually thought the one at center ice was the most vicious. I don't know anything about the Goofer player's style of play/reputation but even if one stirs up something, those hits are way out of control.

I'm no hoops junkie/guru but if you're a low/mid major conf or not a geographically close proximity conf (e.g. Summit League the bison are in where I believe the tourney in Sioux--can I say that?--Falls draws well) I gotta think if you're not at the home court of the top conf seed then attendance will be lacking woefully if at a non-conf team city. No different than at many neutral sites for NCAA hockey region tourneys.
-
Yah, that he was. Dressler signs on with the Blue Bombers. I'm thinking it's a good signing for them and him.
-
Wazzup (15 - 20 years ago)! Just sayin'.
-
Yah, scientific poll it certainly ain't. But face it, with the divide between the top two teams and the rest in the NCHC this season, even with a very neutral polling field it would come down to either the Sioux or the Clowns (the "suspense" is 3rd thru 8th).

Hey, I'm as big a Jones basher as there is but gotta tip one's cap when Fighting Sioux hoops wins conf games on the road, regardless of the opponent. Unlike most seasons, he must be doing something right latterly (at least the past 5 - 6 games) save for a couple of choke jobs to ndsu and mont. Heck, ndsu should of never lost (at least not on paper) that football game at home nonetheless (never mind on the road) vs the coyotes so surprised you don't know better.

UND FIGHTING HAWKS vs. CC Tigers - FRIDAY Gameday
GDPritch replied to AZSIOUX's topic in Men's Hockey
Vaunted Sioux defense not good tonight, along with our two goalies. Sioux need to put the effort forth like in 1st period and last 5 minutes of 3rd period. Effort and mentality are so critical to good results in hockey and there's no reason it should take a 1 goal deficit to a bottom feeder (albeit a much improved CC team over last 4 weeks, no doubt) to kick start that drive from all those NHL draft picks. -
Yah, but man they made it tough considering at home and against a not very good team. Very frustrating team considering they were picked to finish 2nd in BSC. Dyer not good tonight, she missed like 3 or 4 three pointers with one air ball off by 2 feet. She also drove the lane 3 or 4 times wildly in lots of traffic, in playground manner. Luckily once or twice she drew the foul but way out of control sometimes. If not hitting long (at times she can get hot) she's a detriment. Like her "balls" sometimes but she's gotta play under control. Hope the young lady is healthy, heard a few folks say she looks "gaunt" (correct word/sp?). Looks like Lloyd is back, back to back game with near or at 20 pts. Good to see it. Big Red and Lil Red, continue to disappoint following decent past few season. Hope that changes for them and for the team. Something still not right with this team, can't put finger on it.

Tyler was a real tough loss, seemed like a damn decent guard and both a heady player and person. Yep, from what I understand it was simply a family decision for the move.
-
So nothing out there for sure yet on Cags injury or have I just missed it?
-
Huh? Yah, an old topic but certainly not timely. There was a question coming into this season with Zane having left and no experience to speak of but that question thankfully quickly went away.

I'm certainly no St Clown apologist but on a decline, respectfully not so sure about that just yet. From the looks of it the U18 team and their record (believe they're winning at like a .750 to .800 clip), losing to them is nothing to be ashamed of for a college team this season. Also, tying Duluth is not so bad either in light they're ranked like #17 in the nation and were picked to win the NCHC. Yah, the Sioux swept Duluth there via two shut-outs but certainly not "dominating" landslide wins, more so it was our hot goalie and strong def both nights. Admittedly, St Clown losing to CC not good but then we lost 3-1 at home earlier this season to lowly Little 6 member Wisco and had two ties with lowly Bem (man, give them credit though, they sure play us tough every year) and Maine so on any given night.....I sure hope the Husky dogs are on a decline but let's wait a few more games to make that prognosis.
-
Great pont. Here's another point: Craig Bohl (?) wins 3 straight div 1-AA natties (that's impressive) and leaves for "bigger and better" things to coach at..... lower ladder FBS Wyoming. Hakstol leaves one of the top 3 or 4 hockey programs nationally to coach at.....NHL's Philadelphia Flyers at the professional level.
-
Players played well most of game, near end of it they didn't and I feared or even knew it was coming (choke job). The way it has continued on and on repeatedly it's gotta rest on the coach. Yah, refs did not help at all with some bad calls and some bad non-calls but not scoring in the last 4 min comes down to execution and coaching and sorry, but you can't fire/release the whole team, its gotta be the coach.
-
Bale 31, did anyone here ever respond to you? I'm no great hockey mind but I don't think it's as bad in NCHC as you make it sound like it is in the WCHA (15 1-1 games, wow). I would have to say it's better than it was 3-4 years ago (I'm speaking WCHA when the Sioux were of course in it then along with MN State).

My middle daughter is a junior and attends U Wis (seriously), which doesn't have a team. I'm so disappointed in her. : -)

Wow, pretty soon it will be fire Brew and not Jones. How things have changed since mid-season or so of last season. Yes, Lloyd sat for most of first qtr and other times but was in there a lot of the 2nd half and looked freaking lost in all aspects. Lil Red (Knox) was absolutely terrible against the press. And agree with earlier comments, we (Knox especially) kept it sloq in backcourt bringing it up like waiting for the double team/press then couldn't do anything to get out of it. Although Lloyd disappointed with just something like 5 pts and poor game Knox to me was the least valuable player. This is getting ugly. Way too many turnovers and only halfway decent outside shot on the team is Dyer. And why did #35 (freshman I think) for UND play so much?
-
I agree 100% on Cashman over Avants for playing time in the front court, Cashman has not played now for like 2+ games. My understanding on that though is it will soon come out that it's to do with a non on the court issue. I believe that's so but don't quote me. It has to be something like that as Cashman, while not a super freshman, had a respectable first season for a big man on a not so good team last season. So, it makes no sense this season he would suddenly be riding the pine now 100% of the time (yeah, yeah I know Jones is the coach but ...).

As much as I want to like Shanks and his shooting touch for a big guy, it hurts him too in that he's so weak. He gets bumped or fouled when shooting even when just under the basket and you can never count on him making the follow thru for a fg. The reason he struggles as the ft line, despite what appears to be a good touch is his emotional/psychological being. He's simply too emotional and wears it on his sleeves. I'm sure he's thinking way too much at the ft line when he shoots, hence likely will only be in the 50% to 60% range at best for ft's.

I never said the numbers were not accurate or indisputable (they're numbers) but obviously there's a purpose for the post. Not so much misleading, granted, as what the numbers by themselves may or may not say outside of the obvious. The numbers say Haks has coached the second most Frozen 4 games (second to Gino although Haks has been at UND 5 less years than him I think) and Haks has also lost the most Frozen 4 games. I just assumed looking at the post that you were on the fire Haks mission but perhaps I shouldn't of just assumed that then. Anyhow, curious, where do you sit on the fire Haks issue then? Should he stay or should he go? And if he should go, more importantly, who's a better coach to replace him?
-
Not to argue but while I may not refer to many of these schools sports teams by their nicknames I do know all of their nicknames save for RIT. I'm a pretty big sports fan so I might not be your best "sample" so to speak. And I don't necessarily disagree with your assertion that perhaps UND doesn't even need a nickname.
-
Fargodome, aka "Alerus Center South".
-
Uh, maybe it was posted already but isn't this using stats to mislead. Obviously, 1-7 by Haks in the Frozen 4 ain't good. However, that in itself doesn't necessarily say anything about well he coached to get his team there, how many games (less) there were in the NCAA tourney back in the day prior to making the Frozen 4, and should some of those coaches have coached better and been in the Frozen 4 more often? A lot unsaid.
-
And no knock on Sandelin but he'd likely agree, what "worked best" for him in 2011 was the Sioux losing "cus of Haks coaching" (give me a break) to Mich in the opposite semi-final.
