It was meant with tongue somewhat in cheek; I am very aware of the value of grade inflation. Battling a kid like Bjugstad (who should be playing in the NHL this fall) instead of a 16 year old version of Chad Rau (not the 20 year old version he would see next year) will PREPARE him for the NHL, instead of the AHL.

Until I hear Mr. Jones makes his choice, I will continue to presume he is smarter than Koules, Matteau and Miller. Really, why would you want to prepare yourself for the NHL by playing against 16 year olds in juniors when you can play against 25 year olds in the WCHA? The playoff beards at the Juniors are sad.

I am getting very old so I may need help remembering but I cannot recall when we last had a freshman who was good enough to be on the first line, and we've had many very good hockey players come through the program. Was Toews? Are Caggiula or Chyzyk at a higher level as some of these players who did not play on the first line as freshmen? I would expect Rowney moving to a wing to skate with centers such as Knight or Grimaldi, rather than the unrealistic hopes that these freshmen will play at such an elevated level. I will be content if they can beat out some of the returning sophomores on what would be the third or fourth lines.

And 5 years of a successful run at Mankato would be the piece of the resume currently missing. If he moves to Eden Prairie he could commute to work.

The big difference for the Gophers this year was the play of the defense. Replacing Hill with Guentzel made the difference. He has to be the front runner. Even if it it a third rate conference.

Stay sober if you plan to get in a fight. Drunks are easy to put on the floor. :-)

The sieve is partly correct. While it is true the 4 Minnesota teams want to 'play' the gophers, the fighting Sioux want to kick the gophers ass. A big difference. Hence tDon's difficulties in scheduling.

So if the Women's hockey team is done for the season (I suppose we find out tomorrow), are there rules in the NCAA that would not allow Mario's sisters from shoring up the depleted Men's roster for the WCHA tourney? I just keep thinking with the contact to the head rule, these women would be drawing Majors and game DQ's every time someone touched them. Hey, we would have 4 lines again!

I'm trying to remember how many times my U of Mn Alma Mater traveled to Bemidji before the Beavs were admitted into the WCHA, or how many times the Gophers traveled to Mankato before the Blue Cows joined the WCHA. Perhaps you could give me the dates of those games. Minnesota, either fairly or not, has a reputation of not playing these teams until the WCHA put them on the schedule, even though as independents they were searching for hockey games. A game against the Golden Gophers would have been a huge boost to their program. Whereas UND , my other Alma Mater, helped put these teams on the map with games in Mankato and Bemidji befoer they were WCHA teams. The dates of those games are well documented.
