Making my first trip to Houghton this week! Does anyone know if the Sioux will be awarded the McNAughton on the ice if the they tie or win Friday? Anyone know if there is a bus going? Go Sioux!

Just got back from St. Cloud. The referees can not be pleased with their effort this weekend. Capricous is the best way I can describe them. Worse than most high school refs in Minnesota.

Clearly by "those guys" he meant guys from Minnesota who want to improve their game by working harder at hockey than they ever have in their lives, get some hardware in the WCHA, end their season in the NCAA tourney and have a career in the NHL. I guess we can be happy to get more of "those guys". The rest of the kids from Minnesota, they can wear the yellow and brown.

There was an article at the Star tribune on the Junior team selections, and the reader banter included a non-UND fan who made the statement that UND hasn't sent anyone to the NHL lately, especially in the last 4 years. I thought of about 5 in the first minute, but It got me thinking how many Former Fighting Sioux are currently in the NHL. I suppose it's a little off topic, but do we have a link that has a list of current players and the year they left UND. I kept thinking there are very few colleges with the track record of developing NHL players better than the Sioux in the last 5 years.

I'll be coming down for both games with my son. Look forward to seeing the Sioux fans and cheering on the Fighting Sioux! It should be a great weekend for Old Time Fighting Sioux Hockey.

For a hockey goalie, I always understood that there a several kinds of saves: the pad save, the stick save, the glove save, the skate save, the blocker save, and of course, the metallurgy save.

This Old Fart was at the Saturday game and the Badger fan behind me was griping about how the ref was calling the game so tight. But the only thing that bothered me was the guy wearing Fighting Sioux colors but sporting a headress made of Turkey feathers. I'm hoping it was some very stupid and racist Badger fan trying to make a point. That was totally out of line. I can't imagine a Sioux fan would be so racist and stupid to show that kind of disrespect.

I understand that McClown has requested a 12 MPH speed limit on the ice. Physicists and kinesiologists all agree that any thing faster than that it could be dangerous. Referees will have discretion to impose a 2 minute, 5 minute or game misconduct for violating the speed limit. I believe he was quoted as saying " The high speed that Malone and the other Sioux hockety players exhibited last weekend was in blatant disregard for their safety and the safety of the Denver Pioneers. And now there is a young man in the hospital." He also asked if governors can be installed on the blades. Also discussed were limits on momentum, velocity, and force. Maybe we can go back to soft steel blades with steel tuiks and leather boots. And in all seriousness, get well Jesse!

I would expect he can get a medical waiver and truly hope and pray he will play again.

RIght now it doesn't matter if it was a legal hit or not; this young man needs to fully recover and get back on the ice. My thoughts and prayers are with the Martin family tonight. I hope to see him at REA battling Rodwell and Nelson for the puck in the next couple of years. Get Well Jesse!

Are you implying the Hawks gave Leddy an ultimatum. THAT would be a huge indictment of the program in Minneapolis.

I think everyone but the most unreasonable gopher fans agree this is the a very unusual late July phenomena going on in Minneapolis. And this on top of other Gopher players leaving under similar circumstances in the past few years leads me to ask: Is the problem in Gopherland that Lucia recruits this type of hockey player, or that these are all great loyal hockey players who become jaded and disillusioned with a lousy program, or does the blame lie elsewhere?
